Regardless of the outcome this was a badly coached second half. 4th and 2 bad call to go for it with that play. 1st down on your own 1. Did not challenge the spot for a touchback for on thing. Then called a slower Developing play.
-
Horrible bad technique 3rd down and 24 defense WoW
-
That was another bad call on the first play from your own 1 yard line. Slant, inside run something quick hitting and relatively safe.
-
That 4 and 2 play call killed us. Can’t run parallel to the line of scrimmage and expect a cut back on 4th and short. Momentum killer.
-
Why wasn’t that fumble recovery a touchback?
-
Good first half. Really enjoying the watch party. Start the first half with a scoring drive and it will go a long way towards getting this W! I don’t think they have the fire power to overcome a 18 point deficit in the 2nd half without some turnovers.

Well I still prefer the green. Not a big deal though. I would like to make the black a twice a year thing. Last game before or on Halloween and maybe senior day.
-
I am sure they are getting chump change for those streaming rights. Are they event airing commercials with the stream?
-
Depends on the money the program/conference would receive for that. If we get the program really cooking there is a possibility that at least on of DFW area broadcast channels we could get some road games on.

I read a lot of good suggestions in this thread but maybe not the real NEED we can't control: Community buy in. Reading the article about UAB and UNT rebuilding was the fact that the Birmingham community bought in. When and if Denton residents start truly embracing the Mean Green as the city's team is when we could see huge things happen. It could even make Seth become our Gary Patterson. I am not sure just winning will make that change happen. I am really disappointed that we have not sold out Apogee this year. I grew up in Denton and you could barely tell that UNT played division 1 football like Texas Tech, and the other Big 12 schools. Changing the undergraduate culture will pay off if you can keep the team perpetually competitive for decade. That is not an easy task no matter how many advantage your program has over conference rivals. I believe there is a lot of ugly not well known history as to why the largest school in North Texas has not gotten even mediocre community support until recently. Being left out of the Southwest Conference hurt tremendously and not getting in the Big 8 made the injury worse. The Mean should have about 1,000 Denton Resident season ticket holders that don't have connection to UNT. I often wonder what would Denton UNT relationship look like today if they had chosen to keep the stadium more centrally located? Imagine if Apogee was next to Welch Street or imagine if Ioof Cemetery did not exist and the stadium was there.

Yep the college football post season is totally bogus. They are producing a TV show instead of a legitimate way to determine a Champion especially if winning your conference is NOT a requirement for entry to the playoff. A team that doesn't play an two year undefeated UCF is not a legitimate National Champion. It almost as bad as boxing. You tell the undefeated fighter he hasn't fought anyone to earn a title shot yet all the "somebodies" are scared to fight him. The NCAA should void all FBS vs FBS out of conference game contracts that aren't home and home (or 2 for 1) or legitimate neutral sight games where revenue is split 50/50. The greed a bias against G5 hurts the overall College Football product

UTSA’s new Cannon is ferocious we should fear them
Mike Jackson replied to Legend500's topic in Mean Green Football
Omg thank you for reposting. One question for UTSA if we "Come And Take" it are we responsible for filling the box back up with flatulence before we return it? -
I hear you but the Dallas Cowboys have the same number of post season wins since 2000 as the Mean Green do. Moreover it very obvious to anyone who follows the team that Jerry's Ego and Pocket book comes before trying to win. 90% of the traditional Undergraduates weren't born when the Cowboys last won big. And only people in their late 20s can even remember the early 90s Cowboys. How many Cowboys fans who are UNT Alumni do you guess were at Jerry World yesterday paying premium to see a mediocre team try to reach 0.500? I would guess more than were at Apogee Saturday. That is pathetic.
-
DFW fans are the softest bunch of front running fans in the country. Except for the luxury confines of the Dallas Cowboys every sports team not in the middle of serious run at Championship contention doesn't sellout. Now I can say that as a fan who was there in the rain and have been in worse supporting Mean Green Football the AD should not do it in non-alumni company.

ODU writer claims Alamodome is the best C-USA stadium?
Mike Jackson replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Hand me down implies some team wanted it in the first place. It was a Football stadium the basketball team never wanted. But they squatted there because their Arena was falling down. -
I think long suffering fans like myself just want more. The La Tech game was a huge loss with all the momentum the program had going into that day. It was unrealistical to expect a undefeated season even after beating Arkansas but I least wanted to get to the Southern Miss game undefeated. The ongoing national exposure from being 6-0 would have been priceless. The Southern Miss game would have been a sellout midday game (weather permitting). You pack that stadium and metroplex sees what we can be the corner has turned and that is bigger than a conference championship team with 3 losses. Apogee needs to be turned into a big stage that the Mean Green wins on. Fine received very high standard criticism. However he played well enough to bet UTEP by 10 points at least.

I went by myself for there last watch party. It was great. Only reason I am not going again is because it is a long drive for me and I want to be able to peak at other games if this one becomes a blowout.

Official UTEP Game Score Prediction Thread
Mike Jackson replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
If they play as brain dead as they did against La Tech anything is possible. I don't see this as a blow out if UTEP doesn't beat themselves forces them to execute. All that being said Mean Green defense keeps there scoring down. Mean Green 34-16 -
Fair catch a ball at the 10 yard line or inside of it you are too brain dead to do the job. Any coach should forgive a mistake in the effort to make right play. But a fair catch inside the 10 yard line is not trying to make play. It is a high school level mistake. Focus on developing his as WR. He will be more important in that role next year. Have him work on punts in spring next year and fall camp. Our offense isn't struggling so field position is not that big of a deal. At best he might be worth an extra 10 yards of field position on a punt return on average. He isn't even as good as the best punt returners we had under McCarney.

DRC: Five things UNT fans should know about UTEP
Mike Jackson replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
He was a candidate before McCarney was hired. No offense to Dan but I was disappointed that he did not get the job after Todd Dodge was fired. Dan and Chico were not a good fit offensively. Chico shares a lot of blame for not being able to recruit and develop quarterback during Dan's tenure. -
Absolutely and I said it at the time. Not only did his Mason's injury effect the pass game it effected the run game too. No reason for the defense to stay disciplined run plays to protect against the bootleg or zone read. If anything take Mason out for the 3rd and 1 play before the blocked field goal. The back up is a mature smart and capable athletic QB; we've seen it. Also on the Darden muff punt. The only thing that makes me question the coaches about that is that he attempted to run on the field with the punt return later. So to me that means Darden was told to field that punt or at least not warned against attempting a fair catch inside the 10 yard line. (The best you can hope for is saving less than 9 yards of field position by catching it). Cause if I were coaching muff or not, a fair catch inside the 10 gets you benched from the punt return team. Also if you attempted the fair catch against explicit coaching directive and muffed it, you are not playing at all second half. You are in street clothes with a coach diagnosed head injury on the sidelines. We are too deep at offensive skill positions to tolerate bone headed decisions.
-
The late hit on the QB the extended a drive that ended in a FG and the Darden muffed punt cost this game. The Darden muff particularly sticks in my craw because you are trying to make play. What is the difference between having the ball on your own 5 yard line or the 3 yard line with 1:00 left in the half? I really wanted him benched for the rest of the game. Just to send a message that mistakes in effort to make plays are okay. But brain dead decisions that put your teammates in bad positions aren't okay.

It may be time to look into expanding Apogee
Mike Jackson replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
If the Mean Green goes undefeated this year and Seth doesn’t leave that could be the last time the “sleeping giant” hits the snooze button. Let’s just estimate just 10% of the DFW Alumni base get activated. That is 28k that and with 10k students showing up that is 38k. So that fills a 40k stadium. This program given its location, and size of school has 50k stadium potential. But potential can’t purchase a cup of coffee. Let’s see what this season bring before we any concrete plans are made.
