Do we have Liquid Gold in the QB Talent Pipeline?
Mike Jackson posted a topic in Mean Green Football
I love Fine and everything he had done. I am looking forward to his senior season being the one where the Mean Green accomplishes their biggest goals. 1. Win Divsion 2. Win CUSA Championship Game 3. Win Bowl Game 4. Finish season in AP top 25 So I am going down this list on underclassmen quarterbacks and I have dreams of Houston Cougar run and shoot Era Heisman candidates quarterbacks dancing in my head. If just one of them reaches their full potential it could be epic at Apogee in the coming decade. Which one has the best potential cause I can't tell? Jason Bean looks like he has really good speed. Cade Pearson looks like he has the best accuracy. Then you have Austin Aune who is a grown man who has spent 6 years in professional athletics in the NY Yankee's organization. And finally Kason Martin who probably played against the best talent throughout his senior year. I think Bean may have the most potential but that is just a shot in the dark. If you guys had to pick the one to max out that would help the Mean Green the most who would it be and why? -
This does not seem realistic in the least. Maybe a Division II team. They could beef up one the Arlington HS Stadiums and share that. Texas Wesleyan plays in the NAIA that might be a good rivalry. A rivalry may get Alumni going those games at least.

Official Rice Game Score Prediction Thread

Looked my prediction was going to come true for way too much of the game. Glad I was wrong but disappointed that margin was helped greatly by bad penalties by Rice. -

31-27 Mean Green. Defense has to make a big stop in the fourth quarter to hold on to victory -
Yes and he was fired cause we expected more. Yet we haven't distanced ourselves from Troy. They are in a marginally worse conference and still kick our ass. So I don't point you are trying to make here. If we wanted or was okay with being second fiddle to the likes of Troy who we had a 6 year FBS head start Dickey would survived another season. Also we would not have gambled on Dodge or rather he might not have gambled on us.
-
That is just an okay season especially if we don't get a win in a bowl game against a well known FBS team with some history of FBS level success. I don't expect this team to win out the regular season either. Yes it might feel good to some but it really won't propel the program forward when it comes to attendance. I have seen that already in the early home game of Mac's team coming off the HoD Bowl. The primary goal is to get Apogee full. That gets recruits excited to come to your program and makes paying top dollar for your coaching staff sustainable.
-
Winning record against us. And probably better home attendance numbers. And they have generated a following that travels better than ours.
-
That is all fine and good but I am not taking about non-alumni for the most part. We have over 200k local Alumni and yes it makes a difference who we lose to. If UTSA is a "nobody" then that nobody is 3-2 against us. There are to many resources here. 1. Largest School by far in CUSA West 2. In the center of in one most fertile recruiting area in the country and easier to bring in recruits for visits 3. We have a larger Alumni base within 50 miles of campus than any other in CUSA West minus maybe UAB. 4. New and improving facilities. 5. A nice city to recruit that has everything a recruit could want to access when they are not studying or practicing. No those things are the end all and be all. But if UNT starts dominating this conference it isn't like our conference rivals won't have excuses related to our strengths. Losing to these no name teams hurts
-
Nope appears they we are not supposed to expect more according to some. Every excuse in the book offered. Lack FCS success over 25 years ago is an excuse really? I hope this "perpective" doesn't creep into the Adminstation.
-
I agree because casual fans they don't have to they hear about us losing to teams they never heard of. Smh
-
Wrong. Being having losing records against upstart and rebooting to FBS level programs isn't acceptable. Like I hinted at but did not state before I expected to maybe lose to La Tech this and maybe a tough close loss to FAU. It not Championship or bust it beat the teams that you are expected to beat. If this program is to get where it supposed to be you have to beat rebooting FBS programs. You have to beat teams with they first year head coach learning his team. You can't lose very winnable games before homecoming losing all the season momentum again and scold fans for not showing up. They see UAB, UTSA, FAU doing more with less so it harder to get excited.
-
Look with all respect due to the old fans that find us griping about 8+ wins this is why so many of your alumni peers don't support this program. I for one have followed the team since Dickey. They ran him off after 2 bad years working with crap facilities. The expectation was then 3 straight Conference titles and a couple of down years was unacceptable. Programs like FAU, FIU, and now rebooted UAB with just as many execuses as we have beat us more often than we beat them. I am just tired of execuses and this mentality when we point these short comings out. Thank you for the basic. With a smile? FIU was 4-8 2016 now they are probably going to win the East and it looking like they will face UAB. If these programs can do it with less or with just as many challenges as we have or more there are no more execuses or feeling "good" about a competitive season in a mediocre G5 conference with the best QB you have ever had.
-
This is bigger than a loss to UAB it is a long track record that predates Seth of losing to programs on the rebound. And we could have plenty of execuses next year if we lose to them other CUSA teams: Defense depleted by graduation and losing both RT and LT to graduation on a team that leans on its passing game. Look I am not saying fire Seth or anyone. But we can't continue to make these execuses for the program then wonder why we can't sellout Apogee. The fact is far too often we see other programs do more with less.
-
Fine but let me ask this. What should FAU's expectations been in year one of Lane Kiffin? What should UAB's expectation been in year 2 coming back from not having a team at all? In year one at Troy what expectations should they had of Neal Brown? These teams loaded with possible execuses on big stages kick our ass. That isn't being tired of just losing, all programs lose from time to time. It about who you lose to and when you lose to them. Losing to a coach who had 3 years to get historically respectable program back up from a bad patch is understandable. That isn't what is going on in a lot of loses here.
-
A good post but I see a lot of the same excuses the other start-up programs and reboot programs that have out perform UNT has. I think it is more daunting to rebuild a program from a self imposed death penality than just a bad FBS team. This is not a criticism coach Seth, RV, Wren Baker, or Dan McCarney these are just facts. If this team without a major injury loses a game left on their regular season schedule that is unacceptable. A 3 loss season in a vacuum without expectations and without some of the best resources in the conference is great. That isn't the case in "New Denton". We had some of the best resources in the conference for years. The only really bad decision they made was Todd Dodge and the inexperienced staff they put around him. But last year and this year we have lost against teams thrown together in two years or less. We barely beat UAB at Apogee last year come, really. When I said Liberty might beat us if we were on their 2019 schedule that wasn't a joke or doom and gloom it is based on our track record. So all this talk and hand wringing about losing Seth should end. Good programs are bigger than one head coach. Seth is very good and I believe their are a few coaches that could do a better job here. So I don't want to hear execuses anymore. Losses to stable established programs like La Tech every other year are fine. Getting blown out by the likes of Troy and FAU aren't. Struggling with programs in their first or second of FBS (or returning to) isn't.

We aren't getting where this program needs to be based on the potential and the investments UNT has made. 1. This is a front running sports community that doesn't faithfully support any local franchise except the Cowboys. We cannot play around with rebooting or upstart programs get beat and maintain the momentum to make Apogee a highly desired Saturday designation 2. We need back to back CUSA Conference championships before we can say this program is on solid footing to grow into what it should be. 3. We cannot go 1-2 against the "blue bloods" (Southern Miss, UAB, and La Tech) of the CUSA west and make this program a blue blood with them. 4. We had an opportunity to make things a little tougher for UAB in recruiting against us as a recently rebooted FBS program that would have yet to beat us after their rebirth. 5.. If you go to winspedia.com and compare our program & school to these younger FBS programs it will make you very upset. We had every opportunity to keep these programs far behind us in recruiting and winning conference games. Look at this WKU FBS Birth 2010 record against us 4-4 FIU FBS Birth 2004 record against us 5-3 FAU FBS Birth 2004 record against us 8-4 UTSA FBS Birth 2011 record against us 3-2 Troy FBS Birth 2001 record agains us 9-2 These younger programs should be an occasional speed bump for us and not wining the historical series. I don't know how many recruits we are losing to these programs but I am sure it is not zero.

This all day which is why it is very disappointing when we lose to upstart and rebooting to FBS programs. Skill positions are solid but we might need to look for some Juco and transfer lineman. Our line can't get pushed around like this next year and compete to get into the CUSA Championship game.
-
UNLV Is a nobody at the FBS level. Knocking them off means nothing to our programs prestige. Like going ton play Troy last year. Nice money grab but beating Troy in a bowl game doesn't impress or put nuts on Apogee next year. Good luck with an undefeated run next year to get an opportunity for a "big game" opportunity next year.
-
It hard to earn opportunities to be I in "big games" when you have losing history with upstart and restart programs like FIU, FAU, UTSA. And let's not even count programs we have more history in FBS in. The core of what I hate is it seems almost any school serious about FBS level football can step up to this level or start from scratch and beat some of our best teams in just two years.
-
UAB scrapped, taped and glued a program back together. We needed a miracle to beat them at home last year. Upstart (r)FAU, UTSA, and FIU kick our ass. Losing series history with all of them. Makes it hard to sell the program to the Denton community. Hell Liberty might be able to kick our ass in 2 years.
-
I for one am sick up getting surpassed by upstart and restart programs.
-
Stop them here we get a chance to tie or go ahead. Come on
-
So there coach challenges and ours don't?
-
Need the offensive line to step up. We lose if they don't. Play calling second half hasn't helped them. But at the end of the day the line has to execute. They don't have to dominate but stop getting beat routinely.
