  1. Pointless argument here. Your team has to be able to do the basic things correctly to have chance. I enumerated some of those basic things before. If your offense can't get into a rhythm because an on target snap isn't routine, hard counts and in game adjustments are a moot point. Utah State beat their ass but UNT did not give themselves a chance to compete with their mental mistakes and inability to do basic things correctly. They say run the ball more? Well how do you know what play was called when the snap goes 3 feet over the the QB's head? Is running on 2nd and 21 giving you the best chance to keep a drive going?
  2. It isn't dictating is a partnership with the conference and the Bowl organizers. This would only apply to Bowl's CUSA has rights of first refusal to (barring ESPN interference). The key points are the refundable travel packages if the team doesn't perform as expected (before the 6 win mark). Back in the classic Bowl period that is part of what made them successful. Pac 10 and Big 10 school fans could plan for the Rose Bowl because that was the designated destination for their champions. I think it makes more sense for Bowl to try to make traveling to their games easier to plan for. Before the season had CUSA and UNT came out and said the New Mexico Bowl is our destination if were bowl eligible but not conference champions I would have made plans to go. Also that would create cool post game celebration scenarios with players getting something representing their likely bowl destination after a big win.
  3. As much as I was disappointed by the flirtation with KSU and from an emotional stand point want to harshly criticize Seth, I can't. But what I will say is that the flirtation should have been shorter and should have never lingered the way it did. When a program like KSU calls and you are in Seth's position negotiating things beyond a salary should be simple. Once the KSU paused at the notion of him bringing his entire staff the negotiation should have been over. In fact he shouldn't even have interviewed without that being agreed upon and he was committed to it. KSU is not a blue blood program. So your head coach flirting with their open position is not a positive or negative. Now if he flirts with a blue blood program that would be.
  4. It shouldn't matter where you play as long as it is a neutral field. You have to go out and compete. 1. Snap the ball on target 99% of the time at least 2. Don't forget the snap count 3. Know your responsibilities on defense and be on the same page with the rest of the team 4. Finish your pass routes and compete for any pass thrown in your general area. 5. Know your pass protection schemes and at least put a hand on every pass rusher You do those things you can compete. You might get beat but you won't get beat 52-13 by anything less than a team than a team rank in the top 25 if your team has athletes that can compete on the FBS level. We can't dictate what bowl we go too. But I believe CUSA and out Athletic Department could do a better job make traveling to a bowl easier to plan. Like once we get to the 6 win mark they can designate what bowl they want to go to if they finish out the season in the top 4 of CUSA and the champion doesn't pick that bowl. Maybe even before the season they could offer some travel packages base on our predetermined preference. I love the idea of a Bahamas bowl and it might be the only way I could get my family to want to travel to a UNT Bowl game with me. If you would be interested in a refundable Bahamas Bowl travel package if you could start planing in August/September give me "Ray" reaction to this post.
  5. Nope, the opponent has nothing to do with not being able to snap an on target snap. Also the opponent can't make you not attempt to cover a wide open receiver on a basic play. They also can't make you forget the snap count and run 5 yards down field before the center snaps the ball. Yes Utah State played well (and beats us by 10 at least most days) but getting beat in mental execution of basic aspects of the game caused this blow out.
  6. Mean Green is beating themselves as much as Utah State is. They can clown more as far as I am concerned. The guys returning next year need to remember this feeling and prepare better. I thought they would lose but I expected them to compete with or without Mason Fine. This was a slap in the face to people who forked over the money for this trip. You can't win them all but unless you are playing a top 10 ranked team you can always compete. Utah State isn't a P5 conference championship runner-up.
  7. Also tracking the Bowl appearances of this staff is very concerning. Each performance has gotten worse. Losing by bigger margins each time to G5 competition. This 2018 USU is not that much better than 2017 Troy was.
  8. This was beyond bad. They couldn't beat anyone in CUSA today. They are too busy beating themselves to compete with anyone today. Like Seth alot but this bad coaching is concerning. They are being out coached by a staff full of GA's and 3 full time coaches that are leaving Utah State after this game?
  9. Every conference game with a conference opponent 0.500 or better is a pressure game. Especially if the opponents is predicted to finish that way and does so. Granted with our resources and location we should have a recruiting advantage against all of CUSA West. We are in the top of CUSA West every year. You don't get to that level without winning a few important games. Fine should already be in street clothes before that high snap. That is definitely bad coaching. This staff struggles with in game adjustments.
  10. I really don't want this to happen. I like the bowls. To me simplest fairest compromise that preserves the heighten importantance of the regular season and conference championships is Bowls Plus 4 arrangement. Play all the bowls. Best bowl choices go to conference champions. Top four ranked Bowl winners play in the playoff. I don't want to end up with a scenario where late season match up between 2 high rank teams from the same conference has no big consequences. For instance this year OSU vs Michigan would have meaningless. Also the loser of Alabama vs Georgia would have been guaranteed a playoff birth. (Also this year you could argue that loser of OSU vs Michigan was better positioned for the playoff because they did not have to risk losing to a mediocre Northwestern in the Championship.)
  11. I take that as a compliment from you. 🙄 KSU is just a coach and 2 recruiting classes away from being Alabama. 🙄 Glad I made an impression on you. Such a prestigious accolade like best naptime student at pre-school. If it were such a great job Seth would be gone with or without bringing his entire staff.
  12. As much as I hate UTSA, they can go to the Riverwalk, take in a Spurs game, and not have to worry about bad weather games. San Antonio has a significant tourist industry that is important to area. KSU can hang out at...... do they have Buccee's up there now? I was stationed at Fort Riley so I was college aged with my own money. Manhattan wasn't worth the drive most weekends and I ended up dating online. lol
  13. As soon as they committed to upgrading the athletic facilities I always thought that UNT underachieved at the G5 level. Dickey demonstrated we could win on this level. Dodge demonstrated that a complete experienced coaching staff mattered just as much or more than facilities. We can dominate CUSA West. One we become a consistent known commodity it going to be hard from CUSA West foes to snatch recruits we want from us. That will never be the case for KSU as long as OU and Texas are in the conference with them. I want UNT to grow the program sure. But the first step in doing that is dominating on the level you are now and getting fan support.
  14. For all the back and forth on this board I still think it boils down to KSU being a really good P5 job, just not a great one. I really don't think a hot up and coming OC comes here just to jump up to a mediocre P5 program. And without Bill Synder that is what KSU has always been or worse. UNT has all the potential of any mediocre P5 school. Our student body is large as KSU's and larger than over half of the teams in the Big 12 today. He very reasonably carefully considered what KSU had to offer and made request accordingly. I wouldn't want to come behind a legend without bringing all the staff that wanted to come with me. Especially going to a program that MUST recruit that in state of Texas (against all the other P5 school in the region) to have a shot at consistent success. Had UNC come calling I think he would have left. Had Georgia Tech come calling earnestly wanting to move away from the triple option and give him a 6 year contract to do it, I think he would have left. If and when he leaves he is leaving for something closer to his dream job than what KSU is willing to offer now. Put together one top 25 season with less than 3 losses and beat a relevant P5 program in a bowl I think people would be amazed by the numbers of alumni that would come out of hiding.
  15. If were such a good job and Texas and OU weren't huge hurdles to win the conference I think Seth is gone. But guess what? He is still here.
  16. It is all about Recruiting against your conference rivals. You have to look how recruits view a school and program without their current coaching staffs to gauge that. In other words if the you completely reset he conference's coaching staffs and imagine if Texas area recruits had to choose school without knowing who the new coach would be and rank the selection order on average. In the Big 12 that is very clear. 1. Texas 1. A. Oklahoma Then everyone else and KSU is probably not 2 In CUSA West is not at all clear. UAB, La Tech, and UNT are basically on equal footing. Recruits in Texas aren't familiar the successful program histories of UAB and La Tech. Denton is probably a more attractive destination than Ruston or Brimingham to most Texas recruits who don't already live in DFW area and wants to venture out. So fundamentally to me UNT is an easier place to achieve and maintain conference success as long as the CUSA remains basically the same. You can have top 3 conference recruiting classes every year. Sure if you get 2 or 3 top conference recruiting classes at KSU and coach them up to that level or beyond you are on the fast track for the best P5 jobs that come open. But in that situation you better leave KSU for the first good offer because one bad year near the end of a contract and you are on the street looking for Assitant jobs or HC jobs less attractive than a top half G5 conference HC job. All that said I make KSU overpay to get me. You put together an undefeated season here you make all that missed money back with a top notch P5 offer. It can be done here and he sees that. If his QB and OL Recruits are progressing like he expects and wants, he stays beyond Mason Fine sans a P5 offer better than KSU.
  17. The went cheap in coaches but they did invest. You don't go 63 million in debt in 2017 just from coach Mac's staff. Compared to our Sun Belt competition how were we falling short?
  18. Good for you. I am just telling you that once you get beyond $1,000 in travel cost people are looking for more than what this Bowl experience has to offer. It as to be a mini-vacation at that price point with more things in the area that you would come to area for without the game. Only true diehards or rich are going to this game. I just think CUSA and bowl game committees need to be smarter. Maybe offering refundable bowl game travel packages to preseason favorite teams. I would have deposited on a travel package to Hawaii or Bahamas if one was promised to a 2 in division or better Mean Green team at the beginning of the season. And if they didn't make it you might just go anyway because you like the destination.
  19. Nope I said it back before he came. Since UNT invested in the program after Dickey. And if we hired a competent staff to replace Dickey we would have been nearly as bad as we were. And if you are comparing La Tech's relative conference strength to OU's AND Texas 🤷🏾‍♂️ I don't even know how to address that.
  20. Too far for the payoff. If we were playing a P5 team location wouldn't matter as much. Most people don't ski either. Everyone enjoys a break from cold weather. The simple fact is that if this were a regular mid-season OOC matchup Wren Baker bragged about you would laugh at him. Bowl attendence depends 2 major factors. 1. Matchup 2. Location 3. Weather ABQ is far away and has limited activities especially if you don't like the cold. This on paper to non-skiers looks like a very mediocre experience with a big price tag.
  21. Incorrect there are no relative juggernauts in CUSA that dominate the conference. Compared to our division foes Denton is one of the best places to recruit to. A good recruiting team and head coach in Denton should always have top 3 recruiting class for CUSA. You definitely cannot say that about KSU. If you get consistent top 3 Big 12 Recruiting class at KSU you are a miracle worker. Relative to our conferences KSU is in a weaker position than UNT.
  22. Bitching is not pointing out the geographic reality. 🙄. Albuquerque in winter is not a desirable place to travel to. Practice time and payday for the program are the only benifits for most of these CUSA Bowl game tie-ins. Bowl aren't as prestigious as they used to be. Our Bowl games should be within the geographic footprint of CUSA or at a very desirable comfortable outdoor location like Hawaii, Southern California or the Bahamas.
  23. So I have unique perspective having lived at Fort Riley and from Denton. Manahattan is not bad but it isn't Austin, Norman, Houston or even Denton. I think I would prefer Baylor as a job over KSU. If he takes the job without getting money whipped I would be surprised. Minimum I am taking is doubling whatever UNT offers to keep me.
  24. Arkansas is much better job than KSU. It has more resources, history, and basic dominates sports media coverage in the state. It is unqestionably the flagship University of the entire state. KSU is not that within the state of Kansas. Also "regressing" may cool off interest in you but it easier to rebuild here than KSU.
  25. Speak for yourself. The money is one thing they time commitment is another. I am not complaining about the Bowl it is just reality. These bowls weren't created and scheduled for fan attendance. That is the fundamental problem. These bowls games between G5 school that could schedule each other for a regular season matchup easily are kind of pointless. It is all about what the local has to offer. For New Mexico that isn't much especially at this time a year. And I wouldn't recommend driving those mountain roads tired and in the snow. The New Mexico Bowl is just a bad fit geographically for everyone in the conference besides UTSA. I admire your dedication but please be safe and God's speed to you.
