Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Why aren’t they using timeouts to give Bean more real game action? That to me is bad coaching. Now I wish we could afford to fire SL. That is give up horseshit! -

So what are on the hook for now? The first extension was premature. But that caused by historically bad mismanagement by previous AD making us look like on the worst jobs in FBS. I still say that UNT is a better position than going to programs in P5 that haven’t competed for conference championships in 40 years. -

Who are we bringing in if Seth is let go at the end of the season? Barring a Portland State like massacre I am 100% against firing mid-season. Now you bring in a hot recruiting coach who is a Cooridinator for Clemson, OU, Texas or a top SEC team and you have to fire SL mid-season, go for it. This is very depressing I wasn’t hopeful for a conference title this year but I expected UNT to be still in the hurt in November. We don’t have the offensive line or defense to compete. That is more a recruiting issue than an X’s and O’s issue. -

I hope Fine is okay. But with this loss is it too early to consider Fine’s career a wasted opportunity for UNT and this coaching staff? 1. No conference titles, 2. no Bowl game wins, 3. no victories over top 25 teams -
I don’t care what they do. The “quality“ of that loss ceased to be important to me after our 3rd loss. They won’t run the table.

I don't like throwing around the term "must win" for non-conference games. But in big games like this went you are trying to build game attendance it is completely unacceptable to make it look like you are the cupcake team they scheduled for homecoming. Would we be better than Kansas if we took their place in the Big 12? As long as we can legitimately ponder questions like that scheduling and attendance is going to be a challenge. No more raises for Seth and the coaching staff until they start winning big games when everyone is paying attention.

That didn’t apply to the Dallas Cowboys from most of 2000 to 2008. For Apogee to sellout the team would need to go undefeated. (One close loss to a good P5 team maybe.) Then host the conference championship game in fair weather. [no rain and temperatures over 45 degrees]. I think that is kind of sorry and unrealistic on the part of fans. For the most part I think the people who decided to drop UNT down to I-AA (now FCS can look at fan support since coming back to the FBS level as justification for their decision back then. If professional teams in the area got such poor fair weather support they wouldn’t be in the DFW area. Shame on 200k plus local alumni it is just that simple.

If only you could hoop on the your nearest highway and get to a Stadium hosting a game right next the split of I-35E and I-35W in under an hour. “Local Fans” have nothing to complain about when we can’t sellout a 30k seat stadium. (Worse when you consider current students spot us over 5,000 towards a sellout).

Lawrence, Hair-Griffin, Kelvin Smith and Jason Prittle should have contributed more. Yes Shorter made mistakes but if all those guys aren't putting pressure defense. -

We have huge problems if a RS freshman is the guy we are leaning on to bail us out surrounded by upperclassmen at all the skill positions. -

If we are relying on Shorter to be the playmaker we are in trouble this year. Next year he should be great if his hands get better. -

I am so done with Shorter. Is eating buttered popcorn on the sidelines? He made one catch. Yippee -

And?... You can't constantly give the refs an opportunity to throw a PI flag on every play teaching your DB's bad technique. Furthermore how do you propose we ever get an int with a gifted errant pass or tip ball near the line of scrimmage if DB's in close coverage are never looking for the ball? -

In a season and 3.75 games you ever seen one of our DB's look back for the ball when they are running with a receiver? -

Fine has a separated shoulder and we aren't winning this game with our defense. I would try Bean out for at least a series to make sure Fine is okay. -

The guy on the end of the line of scrimmage completely forgot to set the edge and blocked air. I am not sure that is on the coaching. -

Houston's quarterbacks will rush for over 150 yards. I am starting to dread that game. I would RPO our defense to death if I was Houston's OC. -

I said his tenure looks better and better in hindsight each week this season. And that is absolutely depressing because I would only take him back as a Recruiter. -

I might agree but you used 'tackling' and Todd Dodge in the same sentence? -

That is a hard transition and the academies play good defense. That is how we won with Dickey's power I from the 1950s. We haven't recruited that good on defense in 20 years. -

Finally stop looking like a mediocre FCS team. Make the Cal Bears compete the second half. -

I paid $20 to upgrade to the Sports Package for this game. Sure I am getting a lot of other stuff but so far I feel like the coaching staff owes me at least $5. -
