This is the truth. Now if people aren’t concerned about fans dedicated enough to get on a plane to watch an away game, I don’t know what to tell them. Charter travel is better for the athletes but the longer travel times still matter. Top recruits with serious aspirations to play professional it might not matter but if I am advising my son or daughter I make sure they take conference travel into consideration. For football it’s no big deal though unless it’s a week day game.

I think this on highlights there are diminishing returns on adding teams over 12. I also think geographically having teams in Texas and North Carolina isn’t beneficial for anyone. It might be okay if you only had 12 and eliminated the Florida schools. I have never liked having FAU or FIU in our conference. Florida G5 schools are much likely to poach recruits from Texas than vice versa and they have deep talent in their state. Adding upstart programs like UTSA, Charlotte, ODU only made sense on Potential. UTSA should pan out as positive asset for a conference that includes other Texas teams. But I am not sure MTSU, Western Kentucky, Marshall really look at having ODU and Charlotte in their conference as positive. They aren’t likely to develop a rivalry the distance is too great and no history. CUSA took on too much dead weight to be expanding pass 12. It isn’t like we were adding Marshall or UAB as the 13th and 14th teams.

Not worthy of a response but I will. Bret is doing his job and you would have to ask him what his contract say but I doubt it says Mean Green’s smoke up the rear blower. How else would you like him to spend his time? Exclusively writing about the non-revenue sports that are doing better? A feel good story about a backup who will never see the field? Bret is doing his job and we should be glad the covering UNT athletics is apart of it. Much more than all the lazy disaffected alumni who have UNT as a huge part of their resumes and plopping down $1,000s to watch Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech and even a few for SMU (I saw at least 5 UNT alumni in full SMU gear admitting/bragging they don’t support our team at the last UNT vs SMU game). There is something to get mad about. Leave Bret alone or do his job better and post it here in this Forum since it’s so crappy. 🤷🏽♂️

D1ticker Athletic Department Power Index: C-USA
Mike Jackson replied to denton_days's topic in Mean Green Football
Great take by Denton_Days. Looking at the big picture it is pretty glaring that Seth needs to be gone. I think the only reason more aren’t as passionate about him being gone is the Covid year. But 2019 was bad also. With the resources we have this team should always be in contention for a CUSA West Division title. -
You better be happy SFA or Sam Houston are not on the schedule to test that theory. Portland State was one the better FCS teams that year. SFA and Sam Houston would bring fans with them making a loss all the more painful.

Why won't La Tech accept ULM? I get thumbing your nose at one of the other 2 FBS programs but both of them? That is beyond arrogant and counter productive for your program IMO.
-
Okay so exactly what has the program won since this then? Yes he should have been fired but Seth should not have gotten a sweet extension without wining anything either. One quality (but undersized) starting QB and getting blown out against the best programs in our conference when we have the opportunity to win the conference or at least get a conference championship game in Denton? That isn’t far at all. Mac has a bowl game win. How many does Seth have?….. 🤷🏽♂️. This low bar stuff we post sometimes is irritating. No Conference Championships since Dickey and one bowl win since Dickey. Lot of shiny new facilities and bigger paychecks for football coaches but still most seasons a laughing stock of FBS football in Texas without Excuses programs like Rice, UTSA, and UTEP have. You want to cite improvements in other areas beside on the field that is valid.

My Coaching Wish List at the Moment
Mike Jackson replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Keeping SL past a loss against Marshall this week (unless it is close loss on gimme FG, dropped TD pass, or turnover inside the 10 yard line) is pointless. Start your formal search now and hire the best available. I am not banking on hopes on P5 coach fired at the end of this season turning our program around. Beyond tired of waiting for SL to win something significant. An extension with a raise wasn’t warranted. An extension with 2 years tacked on at the previous salary and some perks maybe. -
Worry about why our program isn’t making a move and the stupidity of extending him without ONE conference championship or even a CUSA Championship game in our house. Stop 💩 on the messenger and let us figure out how we can help this team not be 💩! Not talking about it or not comparing us to programs we SHOULD be on par with or better than isn’t going to help the staff here recruit. They can see the results online and everywhere!

If we’re talking a new head coach…
Mike Jackson replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Hell why not? Lol. I am grasping at straws now. And if we throwing up Hail Marys how about this one: Kellen Moore? Top selling points to him: 1. He doesn’t have to move. 2. Still no state income tax 3. Instant recruiting advantage among FBS G5 level programs in Texas 4. When Cowboys come calling to fill the HC position you don’t have to move again. 5. Not every call here is super scrutinized if you just over 0.500 6. You don’t have to get to College Football playoff to retain your job just win conference and stay above 0.500 most years. 7. If you stay and win Big here they are naming stuff for you. I KNOW I KNOW just let me dream about winning the lottery in peace. 🤣😂 -
Marshall - 27 UNT - 19 Marshall gets 10 points off turnovers

If we’re talking a new head coach…
Mike Jackson replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Only works if this is best job available for you in a particular offseason. Coach Sanders is being mentioned as a long shot candidate for USC. Making a stop at a G5 program is not on his to do list unless he coaching Jackson State when they jump up to FBS (which is a pipe dream). -
That is probably why he will be gone if Sonny stays at SMU. 🤷🏽♂️. Now if Sonny leaves he might retain that OC if a big enough raise for the OC is involved. Or that OC gets promoted as HC and Sonny recommends Seth on his way out. Either way somehow I think Sonny helps Seth get a job.

Mike Jackson replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Nah, first he would probably want too much money. Second if he fails here he loses credibility to go up the coaching ranks. Third I think it's a snub of the HBCUs to take such an unprestigious G5 job. Especially after Seth, I think coaches around the country know for some reason it is hard to sustain anything here. If I were Coach Sanders the only reason I come here is because I already own a house here. -
We could change it to Seth's next coordinator job. I still say worse case senerio if he gets fired here is a job on Sonny's staff wherever he is in 2022.

Of the most attractive programs we are looking at in a poached MWC are Air Force, Fresno State, and Colorado State that is what we realistically we are looking at adding to our schedule. A better TV package for our away conference games maybe. And there is a possibility that anyone of those 3 are poached from the conference also. This isn't great for travel for the other sports and might include 8:00 pm CST kickoffs for some of our home games for the benefit for the west coast viewers. I am not sure that is all that positive of a net gain for the athletic department. AAC arrogance might take all of us G5 down a peg outside of the Mac and MWC.

Hiring Gene Chizik would get you national attention as a legit program serious about winning football. He is 61 so if successful he is here to leave a rebuilt program as a legacy or he is gone in 3 years to something bigger. Hire hot EXPERIENCED assistants under him ready to take over when he leaves. I would for once like to see a coach leave for something bigger instead of being fired. -
This thread hasn’t aged well. Wonder if the KSU people feel better now?

Littrell #7 on Coaching Hot Seat Nationally
Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Well I for one don’t he made his decision. Take a pay cut and give some that money to an OC. Or pay extra to retain Graham Harrell and name his assistant HC. He used his very limited leverage for a pay increase. Now he is well compensated best paid for a HC at a P5 school. His pal Sonny might bring him to his staff at SMU or his next stop. I suspect if SMU only loses 2 games this year either Sonny is gone or he will have openings on his staff due to some of them getting a higher position at another program. The luster is gone though. If allowed to focus 100% offense he might do well but the HC job at a G5 program has too many other responsibilities to do that. Accurate self evaluation is one of the most underrated qualifications to being a head coach imo. Selecting and retaining staff that are better at what you are weak at or don’t have the time to focus on is key. Nobody feels sorry for us when we use our $50-$3000 to watch our team get kicked in the mouth on a regular basis. -
I think (and hope the coaching staff agrees) Ruder for 2021 season is a dead horse. So let’s stop beating it. 🤷🏽♂️😂. Although I am not hopeful that we will win 3 more games this year, it is at least a possibility with Aune starting. After we pick up lost 6 they can experiment with whoever they want. But since it looks like Seth can’t select or develop QBs that are more talented than their size would indicate and fall in his lap, it doesn’t matter. [As I am writing this I am watching UTSA QB get a helmet sticker on ESPN Gameday Final. 😡 They are undefeated. Isn’t this UTSA coach ANOTHER CUSA coach hired AFTER SL getting paid less and out coaching him? He inherently a 3-9 program in 2019. I digress]
