Please anyone sell me retaining Seth till the end of the season if he isn’t going to see what the other quarterbacks on the roster with eligibility for 2022 have to offer. Because this is very depressing season so far. Seth isn’t (and shouldn’t) save his job for the 2022 season without 3 more wins and not looking terrible in the losses. I think that is the standard for retention and it appears there is a 90% chance of that not happening. What is the point keeping Seth other than limiting transfers because the players like Drummond like him? Of his most prize recruits currently not injured, Drummond is the centerpiece which is why a focus on him. The highlight video is decent but other than the throw at around 1:49 I just think is he an average looking FBS level QB recruit. That throw you could say he threw his receiver to the open space and it looked like a difficult throw. All the rest just showed decent arm strength and accuracy on deep balls. That is great but I think we all know that isn’t the bread and butter of this offense. Mason accuracy in within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage was deadly the receivers would catch and run those receptions for long distances. Maybe Bryce has that also but the highlight video doesn’t showcase that. (And so far we have seen that Aune nor Ruder appear to have that accuracy). So if Drummond is the key to the future why not see him now? And if Seth is reluctant to play him after seeing the bad QB play we have seen so far that tells us one of 3 things. . Drummond isn’t that good, Seth didn’t evaluate properly or didn’t coach him up to be a legitimate option. All 3 are bad and they represent issues among others the new coach will need to fix. With all that said please tell me why I shouldn’t fill my liquor cabinet with an embarrassing amount of “libations” before watching Seth trout out leading this team again.

I do believe this team has talent. That is the good news. It is also the bad news because it highlights how terrible this coaching and QB play is. Plug Jason Bean in and I think today is a win just from bigger QB running plays that were just mediocre with Aune running them today. Even those very vanilla first down runs are probably a little longer because the defense doesn’t crash as hard and protects against the backside QB run. Miss management of Bean and Aune is another mistake you can put at the feet of the coaching staff. I think at this point you have to play Drummond if for nothing else to see if he can play decently under Seth’s program. If not you really should fire Seth today and find a coach who will run a system Drummond is excited to play. It’s great you can recruit QB’s that appear to have a lot of talent potential. But it is pointless if you can’t coach them up, retain them on the team or coach up the team around them to carry subpar QB play. They are 1–6 and I hope working the upgrade to the AAC in the background was the only thing stopping them from firing Seth before the bye week. Maybe it was even a request by the AAC to limit the negative press when the our addition was announced. Firing a coach a couple of weeks before the AAC announcement would have been a bad look. Real college football fans understand demanding good performance is a good thing not negative. But causal fans with no familiarity with UNT just would see it as a negative and a program that can’t do anything right. When ironically firing him is the only “right” thing to do if you want the program to win sooner rather than later. Oh, and on a Drummond side note. Yes it is great we got him. But he is pro-style from what I read. But it seems to me that this offense operates best when there is a legitimate running threat at QB. If Seth is emphasizing recruiting pro-style QB’s over dual threat that is another negative coaching issue imo. Even when we had Mason I wish his was just a slight bit faster and sturdy enough to run it around 10 times a game. -

A masterclass of awful coaching was put on today
Mike Jackson replied to ntmeangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
QB Aune is bad and the best we have so I get it. Some of our talent showed up today. Actually think this team is more talented than Aune allows them to a showcase. And I don't know how pumped redshirt sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are about the AAC news. Most won't be here when the transition to AAC happens. -

I get it but you can't have refs taking points off the board that blatantly. If you have evenly matched teams let them decide the game. -

Someone needs to suspended from a future game for this. You could never sack a QB outside of the pocket if that junk is allowed. -

Wren offers help to struggling La. Tech program
Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I think that is a great idea. I would either do that or a Louisana & Texas State Fair games swap every year. If we do only a game in Shreveport every year I think a 1/3 vs 2/3 split of the revenue would be acceptable. It would probably still be La Tech biggest home gate haul with only 2/3 of it. -
My Coaching Wish List at the Moment
Mike Jackson replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
This is most ridiculous suggestion I have seen on this forum in a long time. Extending medicority for a bargain? And with all the good and bad of Seth mediocre is a compliment because mediocre is 0.500 and his record below that. AAC step up won't magically improve recruiting, player retention and development. AT BEST you let him coach another year IF and ONlY if the team plays better the rest of the year. I say win 2 more games and not getting blown out by any team not in the top 25 at the end of the regular season. I am shocked anyone suggested an extension here. -
North Texas needs to hire Tom Hermann
Mike Jackson replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
A lot also depends on the assistant coaches he is able bring in and keep long enough to have some consistency. I think in our desperation we overlook that. The “hot” younger coach has “hot” young assistants in their staffs so even if the Head Coach stays key members of the staff leave without being in the job long enough to train a replacement. I just think we need an experienced head coach with a record of staying places more than 4 years. So in mind that is a “Skip Holtz” also. When we hired Mac I wondered if he could retain a good staff at a G5 level school. We never found out because the success was so brief and it was due to smart seasoned seniors that lead that Dallas Bowl team. -

The are big public version of SMU. The boosters think they should be able to buy national championship contender relevance. None of the blue blood programs would have down periods if that was the case. Now they going to the SEC where at least 6, 7 or 8 programs can spend on par with them. If they actually let a coach do his job without having to kiss the cracks of their 🍑’s every other week they might win more often. Also with those spoiled rotten 5 star recruits it is likely one of the least favorite places to coach in College Football that can pay 5 million plus a year. -
So what are you looking forward to the most in the AAC?
Mike Jackson replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
No, let’s be a little more detailed than that. Add in; beating them and it hurting worse cause it is a conference loss. -
Meh, I think a fixed date is more important to a rivalry than a trophy. I think Halloween weekend. Right now we play too early in the season for my taste.

Last minute SMU led pustch to disavow NT from the AAC
Mike Jackson replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
SMU is a little delusional to think they are joining any P5 conference. Sonny Dykes would need to stay there a decade, à La Gary Patterson at TCU. I don’t see that happening. Also P5 is nice but they are never getting into the SEC or getting A&M, OU or UT to come to Ford Stadium regularly in for out of conference games unless it is upgraded massively. Those are the teams they want to play and would drive local attendance/TV viewing numbers. And for all the best brands left of the old Big 12 they already have TCU as their presence in the market. Why would you want to strengthen another competitor for recruits in this market? For a recruit that wants to play P5 locally and remain local they have to be a fit for TCU right now. If I am Texas Tech, OSU or KSU the chances of me getting that particular recruit goes down with SMU in P5 cause he has two options. All those negatives for being picked up by the Big 12 are there for us (UNT) also. And if we bring up the PAC 12 I think we would fit better than SMU. Mainly because we are a large State public university. -

I’ve got $150 towards this. I have spent way more than that this year on games. This would give way more pleasure than a victory over Liberty this Saturday. I might double my evening commute time for a week or two just to drive by and imagining Hilltoppers cursing every time they see it. Love it -
Yep they are just bigger population centers. UNCC for maybe hopes of basketball potential from grabbing leftover recruits from the Tarheels, NC State and Duke? 🙄🤷🏽♂️ Hell I am not sure I would be excited to see Duke and the Tarheels in our east division for football only. 😂. Now Miami is Miami and a the bowl game is a major consideration. Big school and committed to bringing best coaching talent available to them. You can’t argue that because they got Lane Kiffin. If they don’t hire a head coach with that kind of resume they might not be here today. 🤷🏽♂️For La Tech I think it might be just a money issue. They probably could afford the buyout but it might leave them cash strapped to compete to hire and keep good staff to run their athletic programs. While La Tech would have happily took that risk, I think the AAC took that into consideration. I don’t have a clue as to what factors kept Marshall out except not in a high population area or state.
