  1. I think that the assumption is that they are a little out of reach for us to dream about. But I hope Wren is reaching out to the ones on this list that have spent the most time in Texas recruiting successfully. I think we should go with a defensive coordinator or an an NFL special teams coordinator. I covet the DC from A&M on this list but I believe he is out of reach. Ideally I would like good coach that wants to be here at least a decade before moving on. And I don’t think any of the coaches on this list would want that. That mindset among FBS coaches these days is just rare. Also the NCAA and conferences are the most unstable I have ever seen. Even if you get a program that isn’t one the elite brands winning consistently there is no guarantee you stay in the same conference or some new NIL related opportunities erode your program of its depth.
  2. I assume he was being sarcastic. Did you not make that assumption earlier?
  3. Meh, I just think it’s news. It is not like FIU is loaded with mishandled talent.
  4. Report from yesterday says CUSA adding FCS programs Sam Houston and Jacksonville State. Sam Houston I would be okay with. But less than 5k student public university Jacksonville State doesn’t calm the Titanic vibes I am getting from CUSA if I am an alumni or fan of WKU or MTSU. The additions of Liberty and NMSU make sense.
  5. There are 15 teams definitively better than UTSA. But I don’t think there are 25. Any G5 team in the rankings besides maybe Cincinnati probably have combined opponents records similar to UTSA. I think we tend to forget how bad the bottom half of FBS Football is. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  6. I don’t know why the financials for MTSU would be a hold up. The only consideration in a deal should be can they financially stay afloat with whatever the MAC is offering. You don’t worry about the comfort in the lifeboats as you get off the Titanic. If the lifeboat is seaworthy you just get in and worthy about everything else later.
  7. 😮 The thought of Gruden having patience to develop an 18 year old QB with raw talent to a quality FBS level QB makes me laugh. It would be a great SNL skit if more people were familiar with how football coach culture has changed though the years. (If he was hired and experienced success before it imploded we might get some great 8:40 bits from 1310 The Ticket). Even if he could one disgruntled failed but formerly highly valued recruit making allegations, kills the program and makes it a no go almost all QBs with options for at least 5 years. Whether the alleged mistreatment is true or not the stupid audacity to hire this guy means the AD has to go when Gruden goes. Hopefully you were just trolling for a laugh. Oh, I get it now. Okay, okay bring in Art Briles if we are this desperate.
  8. No, you bring a coach over 55 to put the finishing touch on a program to get it over the hump not rebuild it. That is just my opinion but it is based in logic. A coach is hitting the retirement age while under his first contract just isn’t a good idea for any program not already loaded with talent .
  9. You may not like the message but for the most part this is true. A recruit would need to like something pertaining to our academics, or location better than UTSA to come here. Or maybe it could be a playing time consideration for a player at a position UTSA is already deep at or UTSA has miss on their evaluation of. Not a good position to be in. I think we are firmly behind SMU and UTSA in recruiting until Traylor team struggles, Seth gets back to back winning seasons, or Seth is replaced. Seth or the next coach has a hard task ahead of them for the next 3 years minimum.
  10. Correct it was a bad read never should’ve been thrown. I don’t know why anybody assumed they would win today with the worst throwing quarterbacks in FBS level football. Maybe they were expecting them to run the triple option today? Horrible quarterback play can get you beat by just about anybody.
  11. I want them to come to Denton and go down in flames. (Preferably with an Interim HC on our sidelines highlighting their failure and the start of our rebuild). They can win out the rest of the season in dominate fashion for the perception of our new conference.
  12. Yep not a fan of the sleeve stripes. Also the green v-neck collar is a nice touch. Add small eagles on the pants hips and these are perfect road uniforms. IMO [For those who disagree remember an eagle on the hips would help differentiate from Oregon]
  13. Wren’s salary is the least of our problems. He has done a good job so far. The only negative was Seth’s second extension and I am not sure that was 100% his call. It wasn’t an outrageous decision just one that I wouldn’t have made. It wasn’t a long term fix and best case scenario he is gone in less than 2 years if he finds QB as good as Fine. Other than that his strategic moves have been good. Now for the present, it does concern me that SL isn’t gone already. The AD the fired Gary Patterson summarized all the benefits of getting rid of a lame duck coach before the end of the season. Gary Patterson rebuilt that program from about as low as it could go and deserved better. His DNA is in the foundation of that program and they fired him midseason. Contrast that with SL not putting ANY team trophy case during his tenure but yet we retaining him till the end of the season. In my mind that puts MORE pressure on Wren. Coming late to the coach market with a FB program in shambles to fix limits your options.
  14. I saw a picture in this forum of replica helmets that suggest otherwise. Did they produce a replica collectible and never wear them? These are definitely my favorite road uniforms. I think should have the face mask painted silver. But I would want to see a mock up before I stake my reputation on that suggestion. Also I think a small eagle on the pants hips would be nice.
  15. Okay, why should we care? If most fans on this board wouldn’t be elated to have him return as OC in 2022 why is he worthy of following on this forum? He is not shooting up the coaching ranks based on his time with offensive genius SL either. They both flamed out without a too short to play FBS Quarterback Mason Fine. How ironic. Maybe both SL and Harrell need to reach out to Mason at their next stop and try to give him a start in coaching. That is news involving Harrell I might be interested in. And this isn’t news it just speculation. There is an equal chance he may just take the year off or try to get an NFL QB coach level job. There are a lot of options for Harrell.
  16. It’s a beauty contest not actual games played. You don’t know how match your will go until you actually play. That is why it is an extremely hard and risky to try to make a living betting on games. For instance we are terrible this year. We lost to Missouri by 13 points. With that and no other match ups against P5 opponents we have no clue as to how with match up against the other weak P5 programs. You can’t select runner up conference losers over over undefeated conference champions. It is straight BS. I don’t care about the perceived strength of your conference if you didn’t win it. You want to be a national champion? Win your conference. Short of that let return to modified BCS system make the bowls count and select the 4 best Bowl Champions. If a runner up SEC team beats Cincinnati in the citrus bowl that fine. Put them in the playoff. But I don’t want to see Utah kick an SEC team’s ass in a Bowl game and hear “it doesn’t count” BS later.
  17. You can say the same thing about the SEC most years. You think Kentucky, Vandy, Miss State, South Carolina, Missouri, Tennessee Florida are so good? None of those teams are running the table in the AAC and beating Notre Dame at home. It is worse that just the P5 subbing a G5 team. You have to be the right name brand P5 school to get in. Oklahoma State fans I think would attest to this. If Kentucky was a runner up in their SEC division with only one loss they aren’t guaranteed a playoff birth. But LSU, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida are. Stop falling for this self serving hype that is just all for ratings. Teams with the most fans get a rankings bump.
  18. I wouldn’t say flat out no but he would have to actively pursue the job for me to consider it. I think for him our location should be a no brainer if he wants to continue coaching. How motivated would he be by just winning, sending overlooked recruits to the NFL and winning AAC/CUSA championships is the question. Those are the high water marks here.
  19. Some speculation here but I think we are all whistling past the grave yard if we don’t recognize a huge restructure of revenue college sports is coming. I just want to have fun watching my team legitimately compete until that reckoning hits the fan. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  20. Yep the only thing this guaranteed is that he isn’t leaving middling P5 programs like Texas Tech, KSU, Colorado or Utah. Really? SL record here never got close to 15-5 overall. Seth also doesn’t have a Recuriter of the year award from a P5 conference. From the all the data available it looks like Traylor is a better head coach. And Traylor has more more experience than Seth. So this isn’t the same. North Texas extended SL twice without every being this deep into the season undefeated. Most like they will end the season with 10+ wins (they are already 8-0). Absolutely no comparison. Our extension of SL was dumb and short sighted. I called it at the time but even then I didn’t expect it to go this bad.
  21. MAC is a great landing spot for them. Whatever developments push us closer to a reduced or no exit fee due the conference being dissolved I am all for. But seriously I have always thought the MAC was a better conference for those 2 schools.
  22. They would be foolish not to jump on that opportunity. The MAC geographic footprint is great with them or without them.
  23. Marshall is gone so this looks pretty bad.
  24. With no state income tax and a ton of credibility in the state for recruiting. Unless he is trying to get in the radar for a NFL job no way I am going to a job in the Mid Atlantic part of the country. But staying in Texas and taking a P5 job would be very tempting even it is small private TCU. For VT if I were Sonny I tell my agent something crazy like, the salary discussion bottom starts at 6 million my 4 top assistants get 1 million plus Else we have nothing to discuss. But selfishly I hope he leaves and takes Seth with him somewhere. 😂
