Inside their basement SMU decked out man cave knowledge. Like I have inside knowledge the AAC is just a pitstop for us on our way to the PAC 18 baby. 😂

Former players coming to Seth’s defense
Mike Jackson replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Hell, let’s be positive and they go 7-5. No division championship, (or conference championship) and either bowl game win against a team that probably doesn’t belong there or a lost one that does. Is anyone really excited about that? More likely we are just pleasantly surprised we don’t suck. That doesn’t do anything to improve perception of our football program or university. Should we rush to extend Seth at the end of that “glorious” 7-5 season? I definitely understand former players defending Seth. You want that character and loyalty from letterman. Defending him if they have first hand knowledge of his work ethic, football X & O acumen and dedication to the program is what they are supposed to do. But it is incomprehensible to me that some average fans and alumni are reluctant to say it is time for a change. It is very “old Denton” to aspire to be mediocre in Football. Seth MIGHT be able to turn it around by 2023 but with all the evidence collected so far, that seems like a bet against the KNOWN odds. A new coach probably won’t have the program smoking hot by 2023 even if he gets the job December 2021 but that bet has better odds. So while @MGNation92’s speculation of our record in the 2022 season with Seth might be negative, flipping that speculation to what is reasonably possible shouldn’t have people campaigning for bringing him back without winning out 2021. More than likely we have seen Seth’s best here. Those 9 win seasons were fun but hardware is the standard and he has none. That was 3 years ago and he got a big raise it. What have we gotten in the field for that investment? A “Guarantee” that no one would steal our HC with a mediocre record. 🤣 🤷🏽♂️ -
Former players coming to Seth’s defense

Yep so UTSA is very young and UAB just restarted their program after killing it. Now both are killing us on the field. So without beating UTSA there is no reason to keep SL. -
Former players coming to Seth’s defense

This! 👍🏾👍👍🏼👍🏿 I am not as militant as Joe but it is dang disappointing that many of us are defending Seth at this point. At BEST he should be coaching to finish his contract this Saturday. His record even if he wins has him the very definition of a mediocre coach at this level. It only gets tougher here as we move up to AAC. The best predictor of future performance is past performance and most of his past performance he has been right at 0.500. He got an outlier short but awesome QB otherwise his record would be well below 0.500. All the Excuses in year six are out of the window you’ve had plenty of good luck and bad over a that run. It all balances out. The UAB and UTSA programs have FREAKIN LAPPED us if this were a track meet. Beat UTSA win the bowl game and come out blazing in 2022. The ONLY reasons you keep Seth are 1, they win out and COULD be on the up swing 2, you don’t have a coach you highly prize available to replace him 3, you are saving money to have the best financial package to hire the next staff. All 3 of those things have to be true to justify marching forward with Seth. -
🦅🦅🦅North Texas - FIU💩💩💩 Official Game Thread
Mike Jackson replied to Professor Lambeau's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly my sentiments when it comes to Ruder. Aune is the starter next year unless we recruit someone better or a transfer that can actually play comes in. Ruder will get his shot to make it a competition in the spring. -
Can someone kick that old Crow Lee Corso off the air?
Mike Jackson replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
Speculative Fighting of biased perception is a pointless exercise. Even if preseason top 25 ranked Louisiana and Coastal Carolina had went undefeated and met in the SBC Championship Game, they would not have made the playoff in unless there were less than TWO P5 Conference Champions with less than 2 losses. The only formula in a one/two year beating a top team the SEC in there house AND dominating every non-ranked team on your schedule. Yes it is utter bullshit because the SEC is too chickenshit to play any G5 team they think has a remote chance to beat them. (Look who Georgia is playing today. That is a practice exhibition that should only be on TV in Georgia via free antenna TV. 🙄) So it is virtually impossible. If by accident you get good enough to beat a top SEC team a year or two before you play they expect a buyout or your head coach to be snatched before that matchup. So while not actually impossible it is as close as you can get. But a sliver of hope is better than none. -
***Wren Alert: Miami AD is out***
Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Especially not dysfunctional Miami. With all that money they still don’t have an on campus Stadium and if Dolphins ever start winning support dries up unless you are winning big. Probably one of the worse environments in the country with National Championship expectations. You are worried about the South Florida culture getting your athletes in national news for the wrong reason. -
Forgive me that was out of desperation, I really just want him to get rid of Seth and save money if that is an excuse to keep him. I would take a chance on somebody who failed at SMU. He wouldn’t be my first, second or even ninth choice. And those reigns would be shared with an up-and-coming coordinator that might be a little too it’s in experience to be head coach without training wheels.

And if the WR runs the wrong route a QB needs to recognize that and not throw it to him. Coaching staff is aware that these receivers are young so if they are calling a lot of passing plays where the receivers have to read and react that is on the coaches. Because that means they would be setting the QB up for failure. What I have seen so far it doesn’t appear that they are calling a lot blind throw timing routes. And if the case Aune is just playing bad for big stretches of game followed by a few good plays. Great detailed point. The worse thing you can say about a coach in his 6th year is that you can’t identify what he does that is good or great. You could say he recruits and coaches the running back position well. However, for the last most of 20 years independent of the Head Coach we have had really good running backs. (Maybe Todd Dodge didn’t but that team threw it so much it is probably not fair to judge those backs). Just think if you were Seth’s agent and you were trying to get a team to hire him for HC or even OC at a P5 what could honestly say he is great at? Evaluating QB talent - No Coaching up Offense - No Managing Special Teams - No Making halftime adjustments - No Great with Media (interesting or funny points go viral) - No Recruiting Offense - No Recruiting Defense - No Feel for Game (calling trick plays that work at crucial times that change momentum) - No Winning a few big games as underdog (with the record of that favored team not tanking after you beat them. Because if a team tanks that just means the experts didn’t evaluate them properly) _____________________________________________ So we have all this and he doesn’t have win loss record that indicates he does a lot of things good but just not great

I don’t know maybe the starter is mediocre at best and you want to see if the other QBs can play better than they do in practice. 🤷🏽♂️ I wouldn’t start a different QB than starts the UTSA game. But I am yanking whoever starts after about 3-4 bad reads/throws in the bowl game. At this point if the other Quarterbacks are too bad to ever see the field you need encourage one of them to enter the transfer portal.

Pretty Well isn’t great or even good when factor in not being able to recruit good QB as an offensive head coach. My evaluation would be totally different if the offense was putting up 30+ points in most of their losses in close games. So being totally fair his recruiting is either mediocre or his actual offensive coaching is just plain bad. Good recruiting means you get good players who can actually play once they get into a conference game. So I really don’t see anything that would warrant keeping SL around beyond this year without winning out. Winning out could be taken as a sign the program is on the upswing. It’s just cost savings and not having a coach you really covet available to replace him move. At this point I would co-sign just giving Phil a modest 4 year contract and bringing a hot OC or DC as associate head coach and heir apparent (assuming SL doesn’t get a bowl game). Six years in an offensive head coach should have the offense fully functional. Dickey’s heir apparent QB died and I don’t recall most of us giving him a pass when the offense tanked.
-
Why are we even talking about this? It is year 6. One good QB in that entire tenure and the rest just slightly below mediocre in their BEST games. SL has an offense background. He isn’t a great recruiter. So all we can and should judge him on at this point is winning most of his games. He hasn’t done that in 3 years. (That is counting a FCS pushover gimme win each season). Bring him back without at the very least beating UTSA would be ridiculous in my opinion. And without winning out I think he should be gone.

You mean Seth’s Texas Super Bowl. Beating FIU before hand only puts a bowl game appearance on the line. And we aren’t likely to get a ranked team or a P5 team in the bowl game either. So I don’t think that really makes the UTSA game that much bigger. Beating an undefeated UTSA in the regular season finale will be the highlight of this season unless we get a ranked team in a higher profile bowl than we should expect. This program has never beaten an undefeated FBS team coming into a game with 9 wins. I am just anxious to see the attendance for the game if both teams win the week prior. It would be really cool if both bands were there and the attendance hit 25k. Just a good closely contested game would be good for recruiting

The "Sea of Green" Frisco Bowl - Still a big "If", but
Mike Jackson replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
I am much more excited at the possibility of ruining a perfect season for UTSA. The rivalry is not really that hot yet but something legendary like that would turn up the heat. A Frisco Bowl win or lose isn’t a big game unless we get P5 team that isn’t a usual bottom feeder in their conference. -
Oh, wait, umm, yeah, Oh were we supposed to care?

The few Kansas fans in Austin chanting SEC, I love College Football. You don’t get that kind of stuff at any other level of football. 😂 -
AAC commish 'vigorously' opposed to P5 protection in CFP

The rumor is that MT could not work out the financials and the MAC released a statement so MT and WKU could save face. Also I don’t know how the negotiation details getting out helps anyone involved. It might have been the TV partners telling the MAC their addition wouldn’t stave off a significant pay cut or increase the payout on the next contracts significantly. I think that was happening behind the scenes when PAC 12 and MWC explored coming east also. [I also think this mess with the Bally’s network has all media partners managing smaller revenue organizations (Smaller than the NBA & MLB) very cautious. That is also limiting the projected contracts they will be offering for these smaller organizations.]

Dude, if this happens find me at the game, first beer and turkey leg on me. But they have to 5-6 for me showing up guaranteed. Otherwise I might have to bow out.

What would it take for you to have Seth come back?
Mike Jackson replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I voted win out and the bowl game. However if we get an opponent ranked in the top 20, play a very close competitive game and lose I would be okay with him coming back. That wouldn’t be my preference though. A division championship just doesn’t cut it as the only significant team achievement outside the classroom in a 5 year run. It is but it is practical also. I don’t think they covert a TV pay cut and playing multiple games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays either. What they seem not to understand is that they are not in a leverage position. Putting short term financial concerns aside, I don’t see how this makes long term sense for MT. Fostering regional rivalries is the way to go and the MAC provides that even though MT recruits the South.

I need one or two Club seats for the UTEP game.
