  1. 🤔 So being balanced is not how you win Consistently unless you are running the triple option like one of the service academies? 🙄
  2. At this point without a great Bowl performance I don’t see the value in bringing Seth back. I think if they had a solid yes from a coach they really wanted rumors might be leaking now. If he is financial place holder and keeps the team from tanking in 2022, I guess that is okay. 🤷🏽‍♂️ But just look at the passing game efficiency, it is trending down. We almost always had good running backs at UNT. When SL arrived here Jeff Wilson was already in the backfield showing flashes of his talent. Seth was touted and sold to us as an Air Raid Coach Yet the passing efficiency has trended down the past 3 years. Are we expecting Seth to turn into a ground and pound coach and recruit to that system? Whether you’re ground & pound or Air Raid you have to be efficient throwing the ball with 60% accuracy minimum. The accuracy of the passing game is going down not up. More than likely we will be 7-5 or 6-6 next year wondering the AD should do with Seth again. I will be here to tell you I told you so but I’m not looking forward to that.
  3. Are you saying this team doesn't need balance? Then you are wrong in telling me I am wrong. 😜 Are hypothesizing about our team's future based purely on the performance of a team built totally different than ours is offensively? Coach Mac was all about the running game and defense from day one. The that short burst of success came in year 3 of his tenure when his system was fully implemented. When Seth came here some wondered if he would invest in having good tight ends on the roster at all. I bet if you ask some tight ends that were here when Seth arrived they are were justifiably worried about their playing time based on where Seth was coming from. Do you realize that OSU was forced to play a nickel defense due to injuries during that game? You win games consistently by being balanced on offense and making your opponent one dimensional with good Defense What happened to "Let if Fly". You can abruptly change the whole philosophy of the program based on this game or even this winning streak. But to be better than 7-5 next year they are going to have to be balanced on offense. And I am sorry 180 yards isn't going to cut in most Saturdays. Good Teams in your conference will not let you be successful being one dimensional consistently. Harbaugh has spent years building that team to do exactly what it did to OSU this past Saturday. And while yardage was low Michigan very efficient throwing the ball the few times they threw it completing 70% of their passes. Let look at the efficiency passing stats for the last 3 years 2019 Completions 62.3% Completion (Mason's Last Year) 2020 Completion 55.1% 2021 Completion 52.2% So we are trending down in just raw passing efficiency. So if the Harbaugh is the model; let's compare 2019 Completion 55.6% 2020 Completion 57.7% 2021 Completion 64% So if "Harbaugh Ball" is the model you want (or that will win here) it doesn't make sense to be really passionate about holding on to a coach that came here as a "Spread the ball around" offensive coach that is trending down in passing efficiency as much as Michigan is trending up in passing efficiency. 🤷🏽‍♂️ @Side.Show.Joe can you help me out here? 😒 I have a headache
  4. This deserved 0 eye rolls or down votes. The people for bringing Seth back have zero to stand on in my opinion except “it could be worse”. Past performance is the best way to future performance. And the game is all about “what have done for me lately”. Most of that lately has been bad ESPECIALLY the passing game. The passing game hasn’t played winning level efficiency for 3 years including this year. (That includes the UTSA victory just look at the passing stars). They have probably the most mature and practiced QB depth chart in CUSA and top 30 in FBS I guesstimate. If the passing game isn’t light years better next year the running game and defense won’t be able to eek out a 7-5 record next year. Unless you bring in QB with Spencer Rattler potential it just wishful thinking that the passing game will be good next year or even great. And make no mistake we need to be GREAT to really change the profile of this program and get Apogee with at least 27k attendance most games. That is why letting Seth go to pursuit greatness makes sense.
  5. You mean with the coach than has won 0 so far in 6 years? He has yet to even be competitive in a bowl game let alone win one. I kind of tired of my team being the but of jokes compared any FBS program in the state minus Rice & UTEP. Holding on to mediocre like it’s gold because we’ve sucked doesn’t inspire confidence. I hear Jason Garrett is available maybe for cheaper than Seth is now if we value mediocrity so much. Party at empty Apogee next Saturday for the “We aren’t terrible” party 🎉 Bravo to Phil Bennet and props to Seth for hiring him. Now win a bowl game before fluff the idea of bring Seth back.
  6. Might be? If Sunny’s and Seth’s agents aren’t talking to find the source of this smoke I would be very surprised. Let’s say Sonny goes to OU. If Seth is still here in 2022 that means Either Seth believes in the team he is going to have here 2022 big time, he isn’t offered a position on Sonny’s OU staff, or the money and prestige of the offered position isn’t enough. If the money is the same I don’t see a reason to stay.
  7. Exactly this, a logical post. I thing all us fans/alumni can understand bringing him back under the unique circumstances of this year. But saying he has earned anything but the right to finish the year is going way too far. If he didn’t have all these young players with experience coming back and/or they lose the UTSA game the choice would be a lot easier. You could fire him or you could also force Seth to restructure his contract. Maybe not reduce the overall money guaranteed to but lengthen the time UNT has to pay over extra years in case he is let go after 2022.
  8. Just asking questions, that you would rather be snarky about. 🤷🏽‍♂️ My heart is fine thank you for your concern. Again I have a hard time understanding anyone that is a member in this forum that doesn’t want better than 0.500. It is fine to believe that a coach will do better after a 6 year trend of having the team right around 0.500 and not in contention for a division title by Mid November. But it isn’t very logical. Hopefully with all this young talent that has gotten experience this year they do better than expected. But I think everyone should be a little apprehensive about bringing him back. Low expectations usually yield mediocre results. I thought higher expectations are why we made him the highest paid coach in CUSA for awhile. I think playing for a division championship in late November in not unreasonably high expectations for this program.
  9. So you have to be drunk to expect something better than 0.500 in year 6 without any conference championship or bowl wins? 🙄 I enjoy “not sucking” but just “not sucking” isn’t the standard here. Hey maybe you are 100% right and I am a fool. Maybe alumni who are sports fans that don’t come to the games know that “not sucking” is the standard here. Playing spoiler to program that started in 2011 with a second year head coach is our high water mark? To anyone without ties to UNT or deep knowledge of G5 football history that sounds pathetic. Hell hand him another extension because he ain’t Todd Dodge while we are at it. 🙄
  10. The only thing hard about it is the buyout. The better G5 programs let’s a coach with this resume after 6 years go. Especially if there aren’t a couple of 4-star recruits committed to the school based on thr coach’s reputation. And one of those great recruits would need to be a QB.
  11. No he has earn the right not to be fired mid-year. Empty trophy case, 0.500 season, and a career record of one game over or below 0.500 depending on a bowl. So are we supposed to be rationally optimistic that year 7 will be anything but hovering around 0.500 with the last 2 games of the year meaningless in the pursuit of a division title? The only reason this is a debate is that he is under contract already. The only “anti-Littrell” talk her is just referencing his actual record. All that “coach mumble” and sideline demeanor talk is just useless BS from frustrated fans. A two thirds empty stadium to watch a 10-0 conference rival go down wasn’t what anyone hoped for 6 years ago when he was hired.
  12. If the title of this thread wasn’t “Seth Litteral” bragging on a 37-37 head coach for digging out of a hole he created, then I would be with you. That was a 2/3’s empty stadium to watch this undefeated team go down. That is not the standard for any program. Brag on that offensive line, running backs and that vastly improved defense. Let’s have a thread with one those key contributors as the title. This was an absolutely great and thoroughly enjoyable win and I was there for it in the rain. I loved it but in a 6 year tenure I want more than that and those empty seats should tell you this ain’t good enough. And to his credit Seth would tell you that ain’t the standard here either. There is no trophy in the trophy case with “We beat UTSA when they had that great season” inscribed on it. Seth has just done enough not to be fired mid season and some act like he deserves a parade. 🙄 Remind me how long UTSA has been playing football, better yet remind me how long their head coaches been coaching them.
  13. In a thread about skip Holtz leaving Louisiana Tech I made a joke suggesting I want them here ASAP. I knew coming off of this emotional win against an Undefeated UTSA. Hopefully were Wren Baker is far more levelheaded and we are right now. Seth is still a 0.500 head coach. He has yet to replace Mason Fine with a quarterback at least 75% as good as he was. He has had four years to do that. That is inexcusable for a head coach head hired primarily because he was good at coordinating an offense that throws the ball efficiently. Talks about extending him are utterly ridiculous in my mind. Do you want to get to a level where you can draw 25,000 people in the rain? Well keeping a career 0.500 coach going into season 7, 8 Or 9 is not the way to do it. There is literally no reason that we couldn’t have been playing UTSA for a chance to win the west today. I love my program and my school. I will show up with most alumni don’t but unless you are the Dallas Cowboys, UT Longhorns or Texas A&M Aggies In this state you have to win to get butts in seats. What Seth has done so far is just enough to keep diehards coming to games. There aren’t enough of us to keep this program financially competitive in the AAC. If we are having discussions about extending him not to be a lame duck coach in 2022 I’m not sure what we’re doing. Are there some 4-star four-star prospects that have verbally committed to the Mean Green that I am not aware of? The long and short of it is he is a career 0.500 coach going into year 7. Expecting him to be better than that in 2022 just doesn’t make sense. Do we really want to buy out Seth or extend Seth after going 8-5 without a division championship in 2022? That would have him just over 0.500 for his head coaching career, assuming he loses this upcoming bowl game. Great game today but he is still third best coach in this division.
  14. And? You are what you are. If your 4-5 Star QB was out due to injury and several other 4 star prospects were out you were expecting to contribute “flipping” those game against GOOD opponents should be taken into consideration. And again this is following 2 losing seasons. So all the allowances, should’ve, could’ve and would’ve are completely irrelevant. The SL Mean Green trophy case is still empty. No one is demanding 9 or 10 win seasons every year but 3 seasons without a winning season (at least +2 on the win side when you play a FCS team) is unacceptable. Love the game, Seth did a really good job of digging out of this hole HE CREATED. That may earn him the opportunity to finish his contract, and get a new one if they do BETTER next year. I am fine with that.
  15. Tap the brakes sir. You can’t just throw out the early games like that. They are essentially have all the same key players in place that they did when they played SMU. Neither QB was ready and Aune while better now is just a competent bus driver for the most part. I am thoroughly enjoying this game even in this weather but let’s not miss the big picture. The only thing SL has earned is benefit of a doubt to finish his contract. And if you had a head coach you are crazy about waiting in the wings to take the job you still probably consider getting rid of Seth after a bad Bowl game appearance. And the main reason you would hesitate is the buyout. 6-7 Nor 7-6 is the standard here Doesn’t diminish how much I am loving this game at all. GO Mean Green!
  16. Man this is looking just as Prophetic as it was funny before the game started!
  17. I think Coach Riley is taking a calculated risk. OU and UT will have a rude SEC awakening. They are used to having big financial and recruiting advantages over their conference opponents. LSU and OU are equally likely to fire him once OU joins the SEC.
  18. This should have happened sometime during the season Apogee opened. Huge missed opportunity if no attempts were made to make this happen.
  19. I agree with the sentiment of just letting Sonny walk now. There are no goal left for this SMU team other than winning this weekend and winning the bowl game. And nothing changes for them if they lose tomorrow. Let the new guy get a head start and see the current assistants in action. That is best retention interview they could have.
  20. I haven’t seen anything official that Sonny has signed anything at TCU. Interesting, but I don’t like that this is the way they are conducting business in FBS.
  21. I just want everyone reading the story and witnessing UTSA’s success to remember they haven’t done anything that we don’t have resources to do also.
  22. Well there you go we have to hold on to Seth he is due to win big. 🤷🏽‍♂️ (On a totally unrelated note anyone have $200 bucks to loan me? I have a slot machine at Choctaw I got all warmed up.)
  23. I would rather be hooking him up with Denton area real estate brokers than commenting on this story.
  24. I will be there
  25. Sonny Dykes 30-16 overall and 18-12 in Conference with SMU Seth Littrel 36-37 overall and 25-21 in conference. Seth is not holding us back but asserting he was ever more than just above mediocre is drinking the Kool Aid that KSU almost fell for. Unfortunately we snatched that cup out of their hand and drank it.
