Do you trust their evaluation? I know he looked worse but not much worse. If given the benefit of that improved running game during that streak who knows? -

Think about this; the staff thinks Ruder and everyone else in the QB room is worse. Let’s see Ruder next drive and confirm. That is the only positive we are going to get today. RETRACTED about putting Ruder in. We can’t get the ball back in time to get a good look at him. 😞 -

For what? I am still waiting for answer that makes sense. If you get 2 consecutive annual reviews that are below average, then you spend half of year 3 atrociously bad but rally to be mediocre you really think your employer should bring you back for year 4? This is ridiculous. You do know the undefeated team we beat was UTSA with their legendary deep and storied history of playing Football on any level? -

Enjoy the mediocrity. I don’t think any fan, player or adminstrator have a season to waste to be Magnanimous SL. He had overall he is 0.500 here and below 0.500 since 2019. Now if you talking coaching the bowl game only to prove yourself I approve. But even if they beat this this 6-6 Miami Ohio squad that isn’t saying much. Miami Ohio is probably a slot below or above us in CUSA West if we traded them out for La Tech. -

He didn’t deserve a benefit of a doubt. The previous 2 seasons were bad. Now we are in a position to watch him stumble through 2022 for what? More 0.500-ish Football (below if you don’t count games against FCS). -

University provided NIL yes, withhold pay. But unless these guys are getting a bowl bonus I don’t want to penalize them for not wanting to play in bowl game with team composite record of 13-13. -
Cringe worthy reactions in this thread. I read some of them and wonder why you believe you are a fan. Maybe you are fans in pessimistic, masochistic way I don’t understand. Is constantly talking about what this program can’t do besides maybe going to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and beating a top rank Bama team entertaining? There is such a thing as advising prudent caution but here some frequently cross the line to 💩 on dreams. There is a huge opportunity here for any P5 QB transfer to make an impact. Among our conference rivals our roster is not depleted. Even this year if we had a consistent starting quarterback completing 60% of his passes and not throwing in excess of 12 interceptions we compete for a conference title. And if he was a good running threat In addition to being an ADEQUATELY accurate passer we are definitely competing for conference title. If I were negatively recruiting competing for a transfer QB, I would not waste my time talking about UNT if the recruit mentioned Denton to me. I would simple pull up gomeangreen.com on my ipad hand it to him and have the young man type in his name and read the fans saying how he is too good for us. 🤷🏾♂️ It is unlikely we sign Thompson but it shouldn't be for lack of trying. And I think any college QB that wants to be protected by a good offensive line, supported by a good running game, a good defense, live in tier one metro area, get a great education, and not have spoiled fans critic you if you only throw 2 TDs and 0 INT in a blowout of UTEP should consider coming to Denton.

Good luck with that suggestion until the NCAA does something about it. The NCAA is a toothless panther and it was a bandaid more than a governoring organization for revenue generating sports. This points to the biggest weakness of college footbball as a product —- it is an every man for himself cut throat culture off the field. The bigger brands hoard money and opportunities to make money at the expense of the overall product. For instance take the playoffs and bowl games. They could have easily kept the old bowl system and pick the 2 or 4 best bowl winners afterwards to play in a playoff. How do you measure a conference’s relative strength when most P5 schools haven’t played a non-confernce team since late October? (The SEC doesn’t look that good this year if they go less than 0.500 in bowl games without Alabama & Georgia). Bowl games that are exclusively non-conference games. maybe? That would have made more bowl games of national championship insterest and validation of any undefeated G5 team’s bid for a national champioship. This never was consider because the bigger brands feared losing out on revenue. The fascade of FBS not being the Wild Wild West has just been removed for everyone to see. To fix the NIL system and a host of other issues college football needs a governoring organization that has teeth. Like I said Good Luck with that because powerful people don’t like giving up power unless they are getting a huge amount of money that they wouldn’t get otherwise.

This is chicken before egg observation. There aren’t enough fans coming to the games to fund the MGSF even if all of them contributed to the fund. Those fans don’t come because generally we are perceived as loser program Mean Joe Green played for 50 years ago when they were good. The needle doesn’t move here until they win consistently and occasionally beat bigger brand schools when we get the opportunity. So for the few that do contribute to MGSF considering building a NIL package that could help us sign a Mason Fine 2.0. Getting that guy and having 3 or more consecutive seasons of 8-4 or better would to wonders here.

So I wonder what is the overlap between people who downvote and 🙄 at suggestions that our staff make phone calls trying to one or two “out of our league” big fish and the people 🙄 at this news coming out of Jackson State. Maybe we should figure out what they are doing and see if it something we can emulate (if it is ethical).

Let’s tap the brakes that type of talk. 🤦🏾♂️Independent of Aune, just considering Seth’s resume so far here he should be gone. Seth’s job status for the beginning of 2022 season isn’t in question so let’s stop kicking that dead horse. If Aune is back I think he will play significantly better. 🤞

I haven’t heard otherwise. But I wouldn’t want to take the chance that Ruder is my best QB option on paper before Spring Ball starts. I don’t know what factors he is considering as college student in his late 20s but his age alone should make us wary of the chances of him coming back for 2022. He has a child and another one I the way I think.

Agreed and I upvoted your comment. However, I think whoever we have on staff needs to take a swing at one of the bigger fish experienced QB transfers each cycle until we get good QB play from a player that is coming back for the next season. As for winning this bowl game, I just don’t think it is as important as working on general execution issues in all the phases of the game. A win would very nice but beating Miami of Ohio isn’t going to do much for the program. A nice little bonus for the staff if they win but that only matters to the people getting paid. If the passing accuracy is hovering around 51% for 2022, we will probably have a new Head Coach by December 2022. The best way to get better at the QB position is getting a known commodity at QB that has better numbers than what been produced here the last 2 years.

I hope it works out for him. Not being able to break through on a defensive roster that until the last 5 games has been pretty bad for that last 3 seasons is not good on your transfer resume unless you are stepping down to FCS
-
I should be pushed back to at least January 20th at least. Let everyone focus on end of semester, highschool playoffs, and bowl games. Also gives staff members of the best programs a chance to focus do their best in bowl games/playoffs before interviewing for other jobs.

As “mediocre” as both guys I mention are. They both are both 10% more accurate in raw completion percentage than Austin Aune and they unquestionably do with against tougher competition. So please consider that @WanderingEagle @UNTLifer and @southsideguy before taking a 💩 on potential transfers. I would rather have guys I know are ready to play better that the QB's we have because they have done it before. Granted it is a low bar considering the 3 year decline in passing accuracy we have seen. But that low bar needs to be cleared before we can do bigger things. 🤷🏾♂️

Now what did the original post say about recruiting? You can definitely put me in the ‘Seth should have been replaced midseason’ camp. But shots at his “recruiting” acumen is counterproductive at this point. They aren’t firing him barring a massive beat down in the bowl and he probably survives that also. So levy the criticism in another topic recruiting related. I desperately hope I am wrong about Seth. But debating about recruiting is moot unless you can give me a decently long list of 4 star recruits that never got to play here because of injury. He is was he is at this point 37-37 the definition of mediocre. He MIGHT have figured somethings out this season which would be logical cause for optimism. This isn’t a career grave yard anymore. And even when it was you can’t put that on fans. You put that on the actual decision makers and the professional skills of the people who careers fizzled out. (I looked up one of my just for reference favorites Mike Chico Canales and he for example just aged out imo when we passed on promoting him to HC.). All that is just to say it’s all about accountability. And in the accountability moment for the 2021 season on this forum has passed because Wren Baker has made his decision.

Dream a swing big I say. Doesn’t appear the Mean Green is in the running but inquiries from our end need to be made. Seth needs a QB that can play immediately and/or push Ruder. Make guys like Nix and Nebraska’s Martinez say no.

People downvoting positive comments here like we have an abundance of talent in the QB room here? OMG this forum make zero sense sometimes. This program need to swing for the fences when it comes to acquiring talent. If pans out to be just a notch or 2 above mediocre it could be huge here if the defense and running game stay consistent. Hell more competition in the QB room could be just the thing that makes Ruder step up. 🤷🏽♂️ -
Man it would have been awesome if got a 10 year run playing them out of conference back then. A regular season tortilla bowl.
