***OFFICIAL GMG SMU vs. UNT IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
Mike Jackson replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We had a Bama transfer QB that was benched here appropriately for his performance here. 🤷🏽♂️. Not being able to hack it at Bama just means you are 99% of the players in FBS. -

My reply would be "if you decided to punt on the year and bring SL back, I am also. See you next year". Can't believe I am in the front row for this tonight. -

Start the search now! See who Bennett would bring in off the couch to run the offense. Seth isn't even a good game manager. I feel like I am watching the college version of Jason Garrett. -

It really isn't if we had a just a regular good head coach this game would be close. He is an offensive background head coach who can't coach offense very well it is just that simple. -

You mean the offensive head coach that gave the defense 3:00 minutes to prepare for the wildcat and then ran it. -

7 years in there you are what you are. And this coach got his job off of his offensive coaching accumen in an Air Raid offense. So the one we are consistently mediocre at since Fine and his QB coach left is passing. Again what does he bring to the table except a good DC in Phil Bennett? -

When you don’t have a distinct talent advantage (which is most conference games) and mediocre QB play that gets you a 0.500 conference record, undefeated against FCS and winless in bowl games. That is what you get minimum at G5 programs with resources that actually try to be competitive. -
At home plus 10 after and on the road win to open the season? I would have to take those points. If SMU comes out a little rusty they could get beat by any FBS team. And even with a talent advantage flipping a slow start into covering 10 points is a big ask unless there is a huge talent gap.

Not really, watching him hand off won’t be all that exciting. -

I guess these “go for the gusto” guys don’t remember Aune is 55% passer for his career and he has missed a number of wide open receivers this game already. Talk about evaluating what you’ve seen with Green tinted glasses. -

Not to these guys arguing for betting on a miracle +20 yard run when the defense is waiting for it. A run that probably takes more than 10 seconds off the clock leaving sub 25 second. Great you might get a FG. You are still in a one score game. Maybe we are the stupid ones and don’t understand risk reward. But the announcers one who used to be a head coach are stupid also. 😂 🤷🏽♂️ -

Not safer than taking a knee. With 36 seconds left I don’t see the risk/reward ratio making sense. Everyone knows you are trying to run out the clock or hit a huge pass play. Run out the clock and stop being “cute safe” -

I am still waiting for a reason to keep SL besides “flushing money down the toilet” and “it could be worse”. Arguing for mediocre. 🤦🏽♂️ -

And that zone read play deep in your own territory with 36 seconds left Encapsulates why this offensive head coach needs to be fired. What in the hell was wrong with taking a knee? Scared of a blocked punt IF AND ONLY IF UTEP uses all their timeouts? Oh look they have taking a knee in their playbook. 🤦🏽♂️ -
Who will score the first UNT Touchdown in 2022??
Mike Jackson replied to Uncle's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree on the player but not the play. I think it will be a straight up old school sneak or a QB draw from just inside the 8 yard line. -
Branding? Hell I thought that might be the reason they call it “The Hilltop”. Now I am still confused. 🤷🏽♂️

Howdy! Can you believe we are only 1 week away from the start of college football? We have a new location for UNT Football Watching Parties for those in or around Collin County. McKinney ChopShop and Sports Garage opened in February/March of this year located in the Hub 121 area (live music amphitheater) at the intersection of the Sam Rayburn Tollway (Hwy 121) and Alma Drive in McKinney. This place is great! It's two stories with decks on both levels as well as a large indoor seating area. Bars on both levels. It's also connected to a swanky wine bar next door called Wine-A-Little. The first watching party at ChopShop will be when we play UTEP at 8pm on 8/27 (just one week away). As usual we'll have door prizes given away at half time as well as a lot of Mean Green swag. The ChopShop will also feature very special Mean Green Shots for $5. I hope you can join us. Other Upcoming Events: September 22nd at 5:30pm – Scrappy Hour Mixer at Legacy Hall Tonic Bar & Lounge: Meet up with fellow UNT alumni for Scrappy Hour at Legacy Hall in Plano! We’ll wind down from the workday and enjoy heavy appetizers and refreshing beverages. We've reserved the Tonic Bar & Lounge on the 2nd floor. Be sure to invite your Mean Green friends! That could be also but that still doesn’t bode well for our future hopes for Mean Green Football. If Fine is a once in a lifetime talent that overcame subpar coaching then our program squandered his time here. Because if he was that all time talent then just an okay coach gets at least one conference title out of him especially in a weak CUSA. I would much rather believe that Harrell was responsible for getting the best out of Fine because we could hire another coach. We aren’t likely to get another once in a lifetime QB talent that is “too short” to be fully appreciated by bigger brand programs.

Making adjustments that aren't the 100% obvious choice isn't Seth's strong point. Because after a full off-season with Aune and seeing Ruder flounder they should have leaned into the run game no later than the 2 game of the year. Pride in his "Let It Fly" reputation gets in the way imo. With all that perceived talent at QB and WR I think it's hard to look in the mirror and say your scheme is the problem or ability to teach it is the problem. There is just too much offensive talent here to have a very inefficient passing game.

People need to settle down. We having an argument when there shouldn't be any. How much evidence do we need before accept the ugly big picture here. > Take out games against FCS opponents Seth is well below 0.500 (including those gloried scrimmages as wins he is still below 0.500) >Since the departure of Fine and Coach Harell the offense has languished. > Regardless of the pedigree of the QBs he has brought in except Fine they have all consistently played medicore or worse against FBS competition. > Without Phil Bennett fixing the defense last year the improved running game would not have mattered I have no doubt Aune's hard work and experience is leading the QB room. But the coaching staff isn't maximizing his efforts unless he just isn't that talented to begin with. In the past 7 years NO QB other than Fine has lived up to modest expectations here and to Seth's he has brought the best talent on paper here than we ever seen. In Seth I see a pretty good recruiter and decent motivator. His offensive X & Os appear to be lacking. And worse yet it appears can't get the offensive coaching talent he needs here to help that deficiency. Phil Bennett's defensive coaching resume speaks for itself so it wasn't a great revelation to believe he could fix the defense. All in total Seth appears to be a mediocre coach so bringing him back and expecting different results from individual players or the team as a whole seem foolish. And we no matter what side of the arguments about Aune & Seth's potential for this season we are on we are all just wishful fools. Our hearts we want Aune or another QB to propel this 2022 team to 8 wins or more. But in our heads honestly I think we all know better. We expect more mediocre from the Seth led Mean Green no matter who is taking snaps at QB.

🥱 just more unwarranted hype for the Dallas Cowboys. Just fodder for Stephen A. Smith's fish in a barrel trolling of the Cowboys. But if don't have to work and it's a short trip why not. Very little fun going on that time of day in DFW. But I think I would rather be at a 1310 The Ticket remote if they were having one that day.

There is nothing going on a game of 9 year olds that should escalate into violence between adults. Wow, beyond tragic and stupid. Most likely ruined the sport for all those children and underage spectators. Most likely no possible future pros on those teams but plenty of kids that would have enjoyed being on little league, Middle School and High School team for 8 more years. Valuable life lessons would be learned along with discipline. Then you have our alumni with at least 2 decades of life left loving & supporting his family and community stolen over utter bullshit. We all lose. My prayers go out to family and everyone else close to Coach Hickman.

Because if he is trying to save his job and think he has a legitimate shot to do so, every minor advantage he thinks is possible will be implemented at the expense of future seasons. He has shown he can't develope quarterbacks. And as a head coach with an offensive background that looks horrible. After Ruder failed and Bean before him, I am surprised he got Grant to come here. I hope I am wrong and Aune makes a huge leap forward and keeps the job with stellar stats. But if the post Fine & Harell pattern continues then great improvements by any QB on the roster are unlikely. By week 4 it us highly likely that our chances to have a record better than last year will be slim. So it is the safest decision by Seth from my perspective.
