POLL: Gunnell or Ruder? (Plus a PB GIF)
Mike Jackson replied to Pseudo Nym's topic in Mean Green Football
That is CO Offensive Coordinator. And his offenses gaudy numbers don’t look so good when you take away 100+ points vs Bowling Green & Indiana State. And according to Wikipedia there were 2 listed Co Offensive Coordinators at UNC 2014 & 2015 neither were named Seth Littrell. Like I said again too much credit for being at the right place at the right time. We will see what he is actually made of at his next stop. But I smell a Jason Garrett situation. -
POLL: Gunnell or Ruder? (Plus a PB GIF)
Mike Jackson replied to Pseudo Nym's topic in Mean Green Football
If he actually thinks Aune is his best bet with a year to coach up Ruder and bringing in the physically more talented Gunnel he should never have depth chart responsibilities at the FBS level again. He holding 17 in a game of 21 with the dealer showing an Ace and the player next to him holding a king. I don't understand it. I have seen theories on other threads about reducing his coaching stock by Ruder or Gunnell showing they are better than Aune. Lack of development of QB's as an offensive head coach is major indictment of his coaching acumen. You gift our program a defensive head coach strongly endorsed by Saban, Belicheck, and Mike Tomlin with Seth as OC and I would turn it down. I never bought into Seth being a "great” hire. Him having experience coaching in the area was a plus but looking at the offenses he led, the hype wasn’t warranted. Any successful Big 12 OC would have been an equally good hire or better. He is just another “good ole boy” coach who appeared to be at the right place at the right time. And we definitely shouldn’t have been smitten with him enough to give him an extension and raise when his salary was already near top of conference only exceed by coaches who curbed stomp his team but had their teams a shorter amount of time. It will be interesting to see where he goes. -

We should no longer be in the business of making excuses for Aune. His career should be over as a starting FBS QB. He has egliblity left to transfer but no FBS team would give him a scholarship as a potential starter. He throw 55% completions. If you took passes within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage out of his stats he might be one of the worst in the country running an offense that is traditionally pass centric. And the hypothetical of taking one of his interceptions and fumble away and we win is ridiculous. They generally stopped us when they needed to. We weren't about to take the lead we were going to tie up the game. And I am not buying that both interceptions were not minimally 70% on him. I don't know which pick 6 you are referring to but I assume it was the tip pass. That happen OFTEN when you throw it late and receiver gets lit up and he he bracketed by a DB behind him. THAT is one of the reasons the zone defense is effective. QB can get the ball to reciever on time he gets hit, limits the big play or the hit jars the ball loose. This int remind me another late tip pass that turned in to an int. Sure you hope your receivers can survive the hit, catch the ball or at least not tip it up in the air. But you show me the defense that is hiting receivers Everytime the receivers are getting a catchable ball and I will show you one the best defenses in the country. I am sure Aune is likable quality person, he isn't a quality FBS QB. Making excuses for him at this point isn't making anyone feel any better or optimistic about future games. Just stop. It ridiculous. -

Seth why are you writing your post game speech here? Game still going. Shouldn't you be coaching? Oh nevermind y'all about to go on offense. As you were sorry to interrupt. -

Winning? Hell he isn’t worried about improving the team. That should get you fired at any program. No point letting him finish the year like there is no point in staying with Aune expecting him to become something he isn't. At 30 there is no more untapped potential after this many snaps in the same offensive system. -

Yet another overlooked “little” reason ignored to keep Seth for this junk we are watching. -

I don’t care what is going on with the buyout at this point. Seth won’t accomplish anything here this year except delaying progress. He put Aune back out there. I am completely done with him unless this team runs the table! -

Maclin on that play was like “you got a dude in the flat open, I am triple covered no way you are throwing to—- wtf?” Was that 3rd and 3? Did he refuse to throw the short open pass for a 1st down? -

Anymore? 🤣😂🙄😂🤣😂. I stopped being upset with Aune after the 2nd game of this year. He just isn’t good. And QB has to be a positive difference maker and he NOT that when teams are close athletically. -

Velocity isn’t his issue. Timing, consistency, and accuracy are. Rocket?.. His arm is a muzzle loaded musket. -

Some on time on target throws. Amazing what that can do for an offense. Problem is that only happens 55% of the time or less (some of the late and slightly off target passes are caught). -

Are you watching the same game? Seth is a hard headed piece of work. Loyalty and determination are great but you can push it to stupidity. He crossed that line after the TSU game. 11-20 vs a bad FCS team. Guess what that completion percentage is Mean Green fans—- drumroll 55%. Where have we seen that number before? 🤣 -

I think you mean Seth. Seth continues to send Aune out there when it is clear he will always be a below average FBS QB. 🤷🏽♂️ -

What I have been saying about Aune for a season and a half. He is what he is. This is a coach problem not a player problem at this stage. -

Leave dude alone he is what he is. The coaches not being able the find and coach up a replacement are the problem. Outside the RB and OL coaches the entire staff on the offensive side of the ball needs to be replaced. That is a massive indication to me that Seth isn’t a good head coach and make his offensive “let it fly” look like a bad dad joke. -

The question is could Aune & Company execute it? If a pass longer than 10 yards in the air is involved chances that they do is 25%. -
How many but in seats? Turn on the TV plenty of paid for seats available. And that is looking halfway through the 2nd quarter. Even the commentators commented on it. 🤷🏽♂️. I would rather be 10% short of a sellout 24 hours before kickoff and it actually look like a sellout on TV.

We had a lot of talent for a G5 team with no OC or QB to unlock it. The fact that most of the fans are just now coming to conclusion that Seth is a mediocre head coach is depressing to me. But not as disappointing that the leadership didn’t see it during the second contract extension. This program isn’t a backwater program in the middle of nowhere representing a school few people outside 200 mile radius have heard of. The CUSA we were in didn’t have TCU, Houston, and Louisville who were legit contenders to level up to P5. Then being excited and over committing to Seth after a couple +8 win seasons coming from the old Sun Belt would have been understandable. Like old school people say; when you do something good act you’ve been there before. And winning the division in CUSA was no more impressive that running the Sun Belt 3 years straight. “At least Seth doesn’t make executes” 🙄. He doesn’t because there are none here anymore. And since Dickey got canned no coach should have the audacity to make excuses for 0.500 seasons in a weak conference with school with no tangible advantages over except a history of demanding better. By winning here you could get a mere 30% of local alumni to care on some financial level and regularly sellout Apogee. We would legitimately rival SMU and TCU then.

And as much as loved Mason Fine he didn’t get drafted. So he can’t be the standard here, he is a starting point; a top 20 FBS QB during his tenure at his high water mark. So if SL looking for his next Fine he is aiming lower than he should.

Correction a Head Coach who can hire good replacement for a departing QB coach and/or coach up the position himself. None of the QB he has had since Fine has shown any progression from season to season. Aune might have the talent to be a quality FBS QB the problem is that we probably never see his or any other QB's full potential while Seth is head coach. So let me be crystal clear; I am 100 times more disappointed in Seth and the leadership who allow him to roll out this stale team in year 7. He peaked 5 years ago but yet he has a buyout left beyond this season? Beyond ridiculous. I wonder how long Mac would have been allowed to flounder if they did not get curb stomped by Portland State?

18-2 vs. Rice, UTEP & FCS teams.
Mike Jackson replied to ntmeangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
Yep I am so tired of people the last season trying to bend over backwards to defend Littrell, and Aune. Seth has shown nothing to indicate he will be ready to field a 0.450 in AAC conference play. The new conference won't help attendance if these slightly higher profile teams are beating our brains in. -
😂 Did I blame him for the loss? I missed that part. UNLV is not great and some people want to celebrate a pedestrian/adequate performance. I have no “hatred” of Aune he seems like a great character person and hard worker. Unfortunately those attributes haven’t made him a quality starting FBS QB. The only QB he was better than this year that we’ve face was the UTEP QB. The numbers are the numbers. Big picture ABSOLUTELY the defense was the issue. We could see that in the game against TSU. TSU just didn’t have enough FBS caliber athletes to make the most out of all their mistakes. Aune is right on pace for 55% (54.2 % currently) completions for the year with world beaters like UTEP, TSU, and UNLV in the rearview mirror. No he didn't lose this game. However if you have any faith in him to be a difference maker against a good team , I am not the one with blinders on.
