It isn't excuses, it is an honest evaluation of what we saw. Was awesome pass coverage that shut UTSA pass game down that day? You know that wasn't the case. Was it our pass game that ran up the score? Look at the stats. Seth was brought here as a passing game guru. And no way should that fluke victory have earned Seth an additional season just to be mediocre again. Thankfully is last 2 seasons he pivoted to leaning on the run game because his QB rarely hit 60% completion mark for games. That pivot made games competitive and watchable when we could stabilize the offense when Aune was off.

🤦🏽♂️ There is nothing revisionist looking at the role weather played in our victory against UTSA. It wasn't our pass defense that stop their passing game, it was the rain, wind and cold. That victory was a fluke far more so than the top 15 rating. At worse you couldn't logically have them outside the top 25. So we need to put that to bed. Because as much as Seth proved we weren't as good as them in 2022 they earn another conference championship. And the second game wasn't close.

What Should Have Happened Last Sepember

Yep, and that is what everyone misses. My post wasn’t just about Deion, it was about making a legit attempt to get the best coach available at the right time. We weren't going anywhere with Seth. And can never expect our stadium to get over 25k in attendance with a consistently striving for mediocre team. I think the goal of this program should be minimally to stop losing money minimally. It wasn't sustainable when they made the decision to go FCS and it will be that way again soon for this NIL, superleague version of CFB. -
His teams were trending down.
-
Stop referring to this please. The weather in Denton that day made it impossible for UTSA to pass the ball. You couldn’t have scripted better weather for a Seth team that mediocre at passing in perfect whether. Everyone knows they probably kick our ass that day, and Seth is fired if it weren’t cold, windy and raining that day.

So watching a below 0.500 coach against FBS competition was fun for you? If you were a loser, you’re a loser. So now we’re comparing magnitude of being a loser to present in an argument? I am sorry that I do not take any bowl game appearances bowl games seriously if you need the FCS game to count to get to 6 wins. And Seth teams’ performances were trending, flat or down.
-
You pay Holgerson’s salary while he coaches here and we pay Morris’ salary whether he coaches there or not deal?
-
As head coach MAYBE. But those conversations have to start early and you can’t be holding onto a mediocre coach all season and a a real coach with big times options take your program seriously. I mean seriously if you were a coach that didn’t know a lot about UNT football. Would you think they were serious about winning?
-
If they remotely thought this way Seth is fired shortly after loosing to UNLV by 31 and future conference rival Memphis by 10 back to back last year.
-
Morris is getting a season and a half guaranteed (probably more) if he doesn’t lose to a FCS school.
-
What is infuriating is they virtually guaranteed this type of season midway through 2022 season.

Lost the coach and key players I am not hopeful. But it will probably be better than football.

***OFFICIAL UNT VS FIU In-Game Discussion***
Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
We beat the FCS team. No lead is safe with that defense. And it doesn’t help when the offense turns over the ball. -
That just means the bar was really set low by his predecessors. The second Seth Extension was extreme malpractice laughably so. We aren't Vandy in the SEC facing juggernauts with fanbases 10 times the size of ours in conference every year. Under those conditions bowl appearances more years than not is an accomplishment. The second extension was a worse decision than bringing in Dodge with amateur support staff. At least that was a cheap move.
-
When it comes to Dodge vs Dickey it is just inaccurate not to take into account the stadium upgrade. And boring winning with all other things being equal will always outdraw losing. If we roll out back to back 11 win seasons of like UTSA did doesn't matter what offense we run. As for McCarney vs Littrell, I think people were just more hopeful because we had everything in place to win with an offensive mind at the helm. I don't think it mattered that he was Air Raid, just having a complete passing game as a part of your offense was sufficient for more excitement.
-
Consequently I don't think we are in tgf AAC today without that horrible sequence of events and Seth's tenure making it appear we were building. Hell he signed a 5 year extension in 2014! They might have continued his tenure into the 2016 with any sign of life from the team. That is the stuff of nightmares. A bad offense is one thing, boring and bad offense while losing is horrendous to live through.

100% truth here and no amount downvoting eye rolling reactions to it will make it less true. It also won’t stop our football program from being relegated to a new lower level FBS wilderness when it is created. When that happens I will be very upset aim my verbal fire at “the off my lawn” fans and alumni. 🤷🏽♂️. I believe PSU did us a favor beating down that Mean Green Team thar quit on Coach McCarney. Otherwise they would have finished out the year with him and probably missed the opportunity to hire a candidate as “good” as Seth. But they let Dodge and Littrell languish too long and that is main reason UTSA surpassed us.
-
Nothing makes me laugh more than this. I am not sure people who are stuck on these things deserve a winning football program. I think if God himself told me you are AD and have power to do anything you want to but you will never win a bowl game or conference title I would be tempted to hire Dickey just to troll the “get off my lawn” fans. 🤣🤣

What Should Have Happened Last Sepember

All granted but Sanders here with the recruits he could have pulled after proving himself at FCS, a team and coaching staff he puts together is competitive for a AAC title. I disagree they were dominated at the LOS. QB Sanders got time to throw dropped back more than 41 times and only sacked twice. That is on the road with the crowd going crazy. -
What did that coach record get us? All the white space is not a typo, it is a picture of the Seth Littrell Mean Green Trophy case. That worse record coach you speak of has 4 Conference Championships and a bowl win. Back then the ONLY way we could get a bowl invite guaranteed was winning the conference. I wonder how the fund raising goes for Apogee/DATCU if he doesn’t show that this program can win?
-
Did you have a response to that to refute that assessment? Does anyone else on this board have something to say when friends and family voice that negative opinion? And let’s replace “sports” with football. Because I believe they do care about everything but football. Chiefly because they think they compete cheaply. Low risk, low reward should be the athletic department’s motto. It seems to me the average fan on this board cares about winning 5 times more than administration or the largest donors to the program. I don't care how much I may like a coach personally this program can afford to keep any underperforming coach to long. They didn’t afford that opportunity to Dickey. Even though he had a heart attack, lost his presumptive starting QB, they didn’t wait to pull the trigger once he started losing.
-
Expecting them to make a NY6 bowl is way too optimistic. Again, after one game we don't have enough information for accurate projection of what these teams will be. It took 3 OT for them to beat Houston last year so a 3 point loss to them this year shouldn't drastically change expectations for either team.
-
That is looking at them through green tinted glasses to make us feel less awful about UTSA going from not having a football program at all to a program we are trying to catch up with in less than 15 years. We don't know if Houston is mediocre this early just like we don't know if our 2023 team is awful yet. We could be chasing Texas State in a significantly shorter amount of time.

Because we really don’t have them in football. We get the attendance the on the field performance earns. And when a coach craps the bed in the most anticipated and highly attended home games and bowl games he gets extensions here. What is wrong with you students and fans not excited to see a program hovering just below .500 since, No Conference Championships and lost all its bowl games by double digits since the 2014 season? 🤦🏽♂️

Is empowered to do so? Who makes the final call when it comes to hiring a DC around here? Because if Morris had done his homework on the roster before reviewing the staff they proposed to big in with him, does he bring in a guy that wants to run a 3 man front?
