Kind of skeptical of that point adequate yes but not good if you are a HC looking at the big picture that includes, resources you have in comparison to your conference foes and how you perform against them. Way too many times rebound/rebuilding programs led by coaches who had been at their job less than 2 seasons soundly beat his teams in years 4-7 of Seth's tenure. I think is a good OC and good recruiter but the other attributes I just have to look at the record and be skeptical. I believe the best thing you can say about him is that teams coached by him have a high floor. But unfortunately it appears the have low ceiling also.

That is 100% false Portland State is Div I FCS team. I would go on to cite other errors in your post but this basic one egregious enough to invalidate the rest of it. FCS, Portland, State and that season ranked 10th team in all of FCS. Inexcusable absolutely but we’ve seen high-quality FCS teams beat FBS teams, even ranked FBS teams. And that’s why you have to exaggerate it, to make a point in defense of Seth.

Garrett Riley-OC at TCU will be the next UNT football coach
Mike Jackson replied to UNT78's topic in Mean Green Football
Did your source look like this and have a peculiar smell that is sort of reminiscent of anus? I think I have seen the source, tell me more. -
Yes Credit for better mediocrity. I am not sure what hou are championing. You could easily credit the increase in yards and touchdowns to having the better receivers healthy all year and a 3-4 headed monster at running back that teams scheme to stop knowing Aune’s inconsistency. I think the OB coach did better than excepted but there are a lot of factors driving Aune’s increased production besides QB Coaching.

This whole thread is comical based on his 2022 stats today. 57.5 % Completions, what are we debating? Varying degrees of mediocrity at best. If Aune passes anyone’s eyeball test as a high quality FBS starter I can recommend an Optometrist. He would be great at an FCS school. ***😂 my feelings are hurt🙄😂*** When I bring neutral football fans to our games they say he is just bad. Even some of diehard fans exclaim “where in da hell is he throwing” 2 or 3 times a game.

What does it take for Seth to stay now?
Mike Jackson replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
2 out of the next 3 games is minimal. One of those wins has to be Rice. And if he losses against UTSA it has to be close. Similarly the only acceptable loss would have to be a P5 opponent or a ranked G5 team. It was a bad idea to bring him back for 2022. So from my perspective bringing him back for AAC without a great finish in CUSA this year would be beyond stupid. -
Actually (trying to be as objective an unbiased as possible) I think UNT is the better job for him if he is going G5. He has history the metroplex. He has instant credibility with parents of a lot of local recruits who are Dallas Cowboys. He would be able to recruit anywhere that is for sure but the prospect of staying close to home being coached by a legend who wore a star on his helmet would be huge tug on the heart strings. Memphis would have more pressure and their ceiling as a G5 is just as low as ours. The challenge here is recruiting and Deion will meet that challenge with flying colors. And I assume he still owns a home in the area and no state income tax is a bonus. And on top of all that he will sell tickets by just being here, more so than probably any other program except for SMU. If Deion wants a G5 job there are few better suited for him than North Texas. I think I would be shocked more by leadership and big money donors getting him here than him not being massively successful here.

I think them getting McCaffrey made Jeff expendable. But looks shaky now that I am watching the CBS Post game crew rave about Jeff and the Dolphin run game.

Exactly you should be able to bring Another coach to be mediocre with solid resources here. There was nothing worth hanging on to after last year. And Aune being the starter and not improving significantly is just glaring failure for a head coach with an offensive background.
-
Great glad to see it. Go Phins

Exactly losing to 2 out of 3 quality CUSA West Division teams each season (La Tech , UTSA and UAB) is typical for Seth led Mean Green teams. The only year we made an appearance in the title game we swept those teams I believe.
-
In the AAC that keeps the best programs they have for 2023 till 2031 (9 years) that kind of performance is acceptable. I just want us to be consistently in the conference title picture after the first game in November in every year. Also I think Holtz reproducing the same consistency here would push this program forward and he would win on of those title games. Also he would be marched up in better bowl games against better opponents.

If Seth beats UAB on the road should he be extended?

If monkeys fly out my but right before my 50th Birthday does the recommendation for regular scheduled Colonoscopies still stand? -
It was time to cut bait last year. Everyone not letting factors that have no bearing on whether a team win or not cloud their judgment wanted him gone at the end of last season. The only unexpected “positive" thing this year was the win against WKU. One game below or above 0.500 was this team's ceiling with Seth coaching and Aune starting. He would coach here another 7 years with top of conference resources and not get into a conference championship game if they paid him top dollar to do so.
-
Aune sitting here in the middle of the 4th with 155 yards, a touchdown spiting fumble on the 3rd snap of the game. (Being nit picky you could cite the first pass as easily intercepted without WR breaking it up). Dude is just mediocre and so is the head coach. 🤷🏽♂️. Those are just the facts.
-
Now that was a bad coaching sequence. Burned 2nd timeout early in a close game you are trailing. Then you decide to punt. If the conversion was critical enough to burn the 2nd TO then you have to go for it on 4th down at that position on the field.
-
And you need to have the best resume possible for bowl selection, and recruiting.

Another reason why I'm glad we're out of CUSA
Mike Jackson replied to meanJewGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
That applies to the people who care enough about highschool football to know that, pause while channel surfing to remember it and then keep surfing to find something they want to watch. 🤣 -
If Seth beats UAB on the road should he be extended?
Mike Jackson replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Football
Kind of sad this is up for debate. Some of us have a very low bar our program that most of the teams leaving CUSA have exceeded. Every team coming with us to AAC have won a CUSA championship except Charolette. Rice should not even count as a small private elite academic institution that views sports as purely extracurricular and not of great importance to the reputation of the university 0.500 for them is the realistic goal. Rice has a CUSA title. Charolette is new to FBS football and undefeated against Seth led Mean Green teams. I appreciate that someone is so passionate about our program that they want to create a topic out of speculation of a mediocre coach. But this speculation in a public forum isn’t good for the reputation of our program imo. A minuscule minor negative impact but none the less still negative. I think the speculation is just as misplaced as the discussing Aune’s NFL potential. Bottom line if I thought Seth maxed out this program’s potential or even got us 85% of it I couldn't spend money on it like I do. Maximum Seth should get is 2 years tacked on the end of his current contract with 5-10% raise each year to keep up with inflation, if the team wins all rest of their games this season. I heard a cautionary tale directed at Mean Green fans, featuring Texas Tech and Mike Leach. There is no comparison because team😨 Leach had them in the cusp of getting into the playoff. We have to do better -
LSU vs Bama Norte Dame vs Clemson TCU vs Texas Tech Georgia vs Tennessee These are the type of early Novenber "elimination" games we are going to lose with an expanded playoff. Bama, Clemson, and Tennesse were all but officially eliminated from National Championship contention. TCU won but flirted with elimination trailing Texas Tech in the second half. Those games yesterday don't mean nearly as much for these top ranked team because none of them would be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss yesterday. Only a mediocre Norte Dame (that has no shot today even with that great win) could have used yesterday's win to vault them into the 12 team playoff picture. All I ever wanted is a four team play AFTER all the bowl games. I am going to miss these dramatic later regular season games.

***OFFICIAL FIU VS UNT GAME DISCUSSION THREAD***
Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
You earn wins not crowds. That is the kind of crowd Apogee gets mid-season when they are 1 game over 0.500 playing a team with no brand cachet and isn't from our region. Also Bowl eligibility is nothing new here and we only get crappy bowls when we have less than 9 wins and don't win the conference. -

Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
That deserved downvotes. Casuals aren't not coming back to see a one game over 0.500 Mean Green Team unless Baylor, Texas Tech, OSU, TCU or Houston (only mentioning regional P5 teams we have a shot to get into Apogee) no matter the 6 year tenured coach. Run off the first of next season 7-0 Apogee will be pack even with coach mumbles Jason Garrett on the sidelines. 40 years of mediocrity keeps causals on a day like today at home or outside of Apogee. The ONLY cure for that is winning more. -

Has anyone heard a return from injury update on the 2 running backs that missed this game? With Ayo hobbled we need at least one of them back for the UAB game. You want UAB game planning to stop run so Aune is passing into big windows.
