Thanks for the information. 👍🏾

They came to play today. I missed the first drives. Defense surprising. Prove me wrong Eric Morris & company. 👍🏾

All the student ticket allotments are “sold out” at many schools. That being said with 47k students an allotment of a modest 8k should be sold out for almost any FBS opponent if we are playing well. Don’t forget I believe students can purchase guest tickets for their section for like $25. That 8k should have the student side of the stadium +80% full. Our stadium rarely looks like that. I think that is what @Big Z really meant. Would the eye roller on my previous comment like to identify themselves? I guess your free time isn’t valuable? Are you retired or wealth and don’t have to work. Paying money for tickets and transportation costs going to watch the team that represents your alma mater stink up the joint a ton of fun to you and no sacrifice? Just wondering.

@Hunter Green Monkeypox is right. If the games were fun events our game attendance wouldn't spike so much for homecoming. They are only worth student's limited free if there is a good on the field product. Hell the 40 minute drive to the stadium for me feels like a sacrifice when we play FCS and it's not homecoming.

Rogers gets the start against LA Tech
Mike Jackson replied to GMG_Dallas's topic in Mean Green Football
Overdue announcement. Maybe he told the team right after the game, I don’t know. But him not naming in the post FIU game or sometime Sunday/Monday just didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Rogers should have started against FIU. -
You know what those programs don’t have in common with ours? They haven’t turned off their fans and been the but of jokes in their local markets for most of the last 20 years.

Here at North Texas I think minimally you need successful FCS Head Coaching experience at a program that recruited/recruits heavily in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. And by successful I mean going deep into the FCS playoffs at least once and multiple appearances in the playoffs. Coach Morris isn’t that. He might win here but really knowing how to be successful in this region of the country above the high school level is critical. The time for “learning while on the job” is just not available any more here if the program wants to keep up with the San Diego States, Boise State USF, Memphis, Tulane, and ECU like programs

Coach O is Keeping Receipts...

How many above 0.500 teams were on the schedule beside revenue games on the road against top ranked P5? You can’t beat teams that you don’t play. If you are here to argue Seth over Dickey fine. Now with all that detail you want to cite, was it more fun watch us win the conference or not win conference? The hype/love over beating Baylor was nothing compared to beating an Arkansas team. When “defending” Dickey it is something I don’t bring up because I don’t even remember it. Seth’s teams weren’t better than Dickey’s teams relative to FBS eras they competed in. Seth’s team’s dominated NO ONE except FCS. -
It can be a little premature but accurate none the less. The 2 aren't mutually exclusive. Take all the horrible stats away, what Seth left or didn't leave and just look at the physical effort. Is that the effort you want to see? From game 1 to game 2 did you see better effort from the defense? Was the offensive production we saw just a side effect from finally putting in the best QB? If was the QB why didn't he commit to Rogers after FIU game? Indecision when it comes to QB depth chart when it is pretty clear to everyone watching who is better is BAD for culture? So yes you probably right we can't make a determination that is he a culture changer but I argue we can be fairly confident betting on him NOT being a positive culture changer. Remember you can change culture positively or negatively.

Does the administration really believe that we can activate that potential? I don't believe they do. Most of the programs that have jumped up to FBS after we did have hired coaches with better resumes that fit their programs better. Coach McCarney was the first coach on paper that got me excited about Mean Green Football before he coached a game here. The rest were just uninspiring. Besides McCarney, none with FBS head coaching experience or even FCS head coach to reach the quarter finals in the playoffs. What should we really expect with these underwhelming coaches?
-
Since when does a coach with a 0.500 record in FBS vs FBS games, no bowl game wins, and no conference titles get 2 contract extensions? If you are going to “go cheap” go all out and have Seth coach this year. The stadium was still 1/2 full in the opener because casual fans had no reason to believe in a new coach running the same offense.
-
I have those same thoughts and questions . But overall I think it all points a rudderless football program beyond the head coach. If defense is the problem you address defense in the hiring process. Maybe go against the trend and hire a head coach from the defensive side of the ball? Guys who run the Air Raid/Spread are everywhere. More than likely you aren’t going to find a diamond in the rough that is magically make our existing offensive talent play drastically better in essentially the same system. You don’t bring in a head coach just to address the QB position unless they are bringing a 4 star QB with them. And even if you do that you have to really scrutinize the defensive staff they want to bring with them. Morris was an underwhelming hire imo.

Coach O is Keeping Receipts...
Mike Jackson replied to NorthTexasWeLove's topic in Mean Green Football
I am not coping but revisionists history like Seth’s teams were good just isn’t true. They were better than the worst of FBS and could beat other mediocre FBS teams half the time. This mediocre team Seth left, lost some its best players. This isn’t an excuse for Eric Morris but our expectations looking at this situation were askew. Even if they played better in the Cal loss, I was expecting the FIU game to be a dog fight. Not because FIU is good to the contrary, I believe we weren’t good last year and FIU couldn’t be worse than they were last year. -

Wasting your time. In summary when you take out wins against FCS, Seth is well below 0.500. And all the love for beating 2-10 Arkansas was hype because of their history as a program, that Arkansas team doesn't win the Sun Belt. -
This is what pursuing Coach Sanders (or someone like him) PUBLIC ALLY should/would have been about be about. A coach with skins on the way that has built in local interest. Who brings in those players when your football brand has a reputation for sucking at worst or mediocre at best? How about a coach that can recruit in Texas on the reputation he has earned in the state at the college level maybe? You really think Morris is going to flip guys from SMU, UTSA, La Tech, Tulane or etc? Maybe but I don't know. This program for the most part doesn't hire Football Coaches that inspire confidence from fans.

And it isn’t about titles, for the most part the top 20 popular brands refuse to compete in state or with a bordering states biggest schools unless it is conference. All these "great matchups" 🙄 "created" or renewed by these newest superconferences could have been scheduled on a regular non-conference basis. For instance from 1954-2023 LSU and Texas played ONCE in the regular season. But now they are going to have that in conference they are trying to sell everyone that the Longhorns can no longer play, Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU each on a 3 year out of conference rotation. It is been a rigged competition since the 50s. All the upper programs angling to take the least amount of conference risk necessary during the regular season to get to the post season. Florida's out conference trip to Utah was historically abnormal and they got their ass kicked with Utah's backup at the helm. Parity is a joke when you refuse to play a balanced schedule and count games against FCS in your win total. If they want to have these games schedule them in week 0 and 1 and actually call them what they are PRESEASON. You guys are so better than the best G5 teams okay, come to Denton, San Diego, Boise State, Marshall, UAB, Fresno State, or etc and officially call it pre-season. Game isn't on your regular season record if you get beat. (Because it usually doesn't for the G5 if they beat you and don't crush the rest of their opponents br 2 TD's minimum). You don't have to have "parity" but you need to play the "lower schools" home and home. Real home and home not Notre Dame playing Navy at Ravens, or Commander's home field.
-
I’m not suggesting we do away with football. I am suggesting that we spend on the Coaching staff near the bottom of whatever conference we are in until a coach can win here. If we aren’t bringing in coaches with the resumes on par with the likes of Lane Kiffin, Skip Holtz, Howard Snellenberger, Dana Holgerson, Hugh Freeze or Larry Coker (at the times they were hired by G5 programs) there is no value in pay a penny more than the median G5 coach salary. And without down adjusted for the cost of living compared to places like metro schools in California, New York, with no state income tax paying the median is actually. All is this to say over the years many people here took issue and/or weren’t thrilled by the hiring announcements here. Even Coach McCarney their best hire by resume at the time he was hired lacked local high school recruiting ties, and ran an offense totally different than his predecessor which made recruiting to his system all the more difficult. I liked the hire of Coach Mac because it made us look like we were trying but when you drill down to the details it was philosophical mismatch to the most efficient path towards relevance. If Mac ran a spread/Air Raid offense and had a history/connections in this state, he would have been perfect. We should have stolen one of the successful head coaches from the FCS in Texas years ago. I can’t say Morris is a bad hire yet, but he was certainly an underwhelming one before the season started. 🤷🏽♂️

I had to laugh at this comment. What about TV viewers and Attendance being THE BUSINESS? Oregon State spent well and wisely they have no home. (WSU didn’t spend wisely and they are in worse shape but same boat). Sure MWC and AAC want them. But the move will be financially devastating. This program brings very little value because fans are coming to see the brand or watch it on TV. Sure there is tons of POTENTIAL here but a program that just throws money at the problem the same way it always has there is no value in that.

I think the folding of the P12 make you far more skeptical of "commissioners seeing our financial commitment to figuring this out" making a difference. If people don't watch our game and we don't have 100 million in pledge capital like SMU does our "financial commitment" is worthless because we don't generate TV revenue. We spend in an extremely stupid fashion that is often FIRST GUESSED by fans who follow the program. The only way even the Sun Belt or CUSA would want us back is for more access to the DFW market. Very hard to find programs that have done worse in G5 spending the kind of money we have.

Aren't we already? You are referring to a former season ticket holder who couldn't give his extra tickets away. I would literally have to drag my sons to the game. One of them actually played football and still had no interest in going. Unless I want to give away my extra tickets to stranger they would sometimes go unused. The half empty to 2/3 full stadium most games tells you we are considered third rate.

You missed the point. They could run the program on a much cheaper football support staff standpoint and get these same atrocious results. Maybe you have to up your coach compensation to look better for conferences you are trying to upgrade to. That is no longer the case because there is no where to go but P4 to upgrade now.

Assistant HC and DC. With this supposedly good recruiting staff he would not have to spend a lot of energy recruiting. Maybe evaluate having a transfer portal scout/coordinator/evaluator in addition to regular recruiting staff.
-
Wow that is even worse. Dare I say that should be someone's first strike in their HR evaluation file. I hate to fire anyone but sometimes a person his too dumb to hang on to. This is so dumb that if the person was in charge of something that affected compliance if could lose scholarships for you and get you a post season band. Who knows what dumb crap they other dumb stuff they would do if "players liked and requested it".

I am not 100% against the black jerseys at home once a season MAX. Maybe the game right before Halloween if we at home within 5 days before. From a branding recognition standpoint it absolutely STUPID to wear predominantly black when it’s not one of your primary colors when you are on the road. I might be wrong so can a marketing major speak on this? Because to this laymen it seems so bad 'stupid' is an understatement.
-
Can't argue with that. Let's make a young hungry coach turn this football program around and then adjust the budget to back around 10 million. Overpaying for mediocre is just stupid. 10 million is not putting buts in seats. The 18k average in attendance shows us that.
