One thing I hope Eric Morris along with the new AD team will address is our lack luster podcast presecence. With a fairly successful long running broadcast department it seem pretty weak to not have a weekly official podcast leaning on current students and recent graduates for slow parts of the atheltic calendar. /The lastest episode link below was recorded before game against Grand Canyon 12/10/2022 - that is kind of pathetic imo/. The Barbershop podcast here on gomeangeeen.com is great also and I would like to see more of their style pulled into the Official Podcast. I like the Mean Green Show on YouTube.com also he had a good interview with Austin Aune after here entered the portal link at the bottom. There are so many opportunities to produce content and the fanbase needs to learn about our new conference foes. The GameDay experience is enriched the more fans know about our teams and school/opponents we are facing. So Bowl games [created before 2010; Holiday Bowl Insight (Copper) Bowl and Meineke Car Care Meinicke(Texas) Bowl] aren’t big games? How about beating the Longhorns knocking them out of the national championship picture and grabbing a share of Big 12 South Division title? If Tech was the biggest brand out of UT, OU and Tech they would have went to the Big 12 title game that year. Hawaii rode the Air Raid - (referring to it being pass happy not the Leach system) to an undefeated regular season beating 17th ranked Boise State and Pac 10 Washington along the way. You definitely can't be lax on defense but you don't have to be great either. Hell look at the playoff games yesterday. TCU's defense was probably the best performing defense yesterday and they gave up over 30 points even if you don't count points coming from drives of less that 45 yards. Georgia gave up 41 points and won. (And they really didn't stop OSU from getting FG attempt within their kicker's range to win the game). We aren't on that level but looking at Hawaii did and lack of intimidating defenses in FBS holding team under 24 points per game this year the Air Raid formula for G5 level success can absolutely work. I acknowledge this while I would prefer a more pro-style offense with a top 25 defense if the end result win/loss record being the same. That formula would probably work better if we want to knock off ranked P5 teams on the road. But while upsets like that are great they mean very little without winning your conference in the same season, the season that precedes it or the season follows it. On top of that you have no control of what the P5 you beat does the rest of the year to make the upset look less or more impressive.

I definitely understand the skepticism however, Texas Tech not having significant hardware since 1994 besides Bowl game wins isn’t a fair criticism imo. Being the 3-5 best brand in your Divison or Conference is a hell of a disadvantage to overcome in college football. And the gulf between Longhorns, Sooners and even the Aggies (to a lessor extent) is massive. Programs like TCU and KSU are the anomalies that got lucky with a TON of stability and great decisions along the way. @greenminer said “not sure what that's going to mean for us in the AAC.” So at North Texas coming into the AAC without even a perennial top 25 program in the conference, I believe having a average defense will be sufficient to win a conference title with stellar offense.

Dude rushed for 110 yards and a TD in addition to passing for another TD, and 251 yards which was more yards than the opposing QB in a championship game. If you think that he is only a little better than Aune then I think watching a game with you would be intellectually painful. Your only argument to make the gap between them small would be poor (for CUSA) talent and coaching around Aune. I don’t think Duggan has high upside as a NFL QB. But for a college QB he is at worst top 15 talent for anyone halfway objective.
-
Take off you SMU blue tinted shades and maybe you can read numbers. 11 more interceptions and 8% lower completion rate is better without including all the rushing yards and key plays he made with his legs. Duggan was the main reason they almost pulled out the Big 12 championship game a Heisman-like gutty performance.

Name the mid-major in Texas that draws well when playing an another mid-major in a meaningless created yesterday bowl. I will wait. Post like these are so naive and show a clear lack of understanding that you can't easily erase a 20 years poor leadership and performance. On top of that they were coached by a guy that a good portion of fans wanted fired before the season started. You know what could have cured alot of the negative perception? Firing that coach earlier in the year and taking a run at hiring Deion Sanders. But I digress. Hiring Coach Mac was the first time I really looked at this program really committed 100% to stretching the coach budget to the max to win since Hayden Fry. Now look at Boise State’s humble beginning with us in the Big West. There is no comparison our program looks pathetic with no excuses that Boise couldn’t offer one of the same caliber. They’ve been in the national championship discussion. We can’t stay in the BOTTOM of the top 25 consecutive weeks.

I think they really wanted Sonny Dykes back more than they wanted Preston Stone to start. 🤷🏾♂️

Jason Bean playing well for Kansas
Mike Jackson replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
Exempt no but it freaking irrelevant as he was coming off the bench and had not played here in over 2 years. To me it a little akin to talking about an ex-girlfriend 2 years after you dumped her about how her next relationship failed. It makes us look small and petty. Now if he was starting and stinking up the joint that would be different. -

Maybe, but this board can be very classless at times. When he was a starter it was relevant because of justifiable comparison to the QB starting for us that was in the QB rotation with him. Just isn't a good look imo. -

This thread needs to be locked. It is classless to bring this dude up now coming off the bench for Kansas. When was the last time he took a snap for North Texas or practiced with the team? Now his college career is over and that failed conversion to lose the game was his last play. I feel bad for him. I wish he had a better coach here at UNT. We aren't P5 and we have no room to criticize when we held onto Seth way too long being cheap and not demanding performance on par with salary. God bless him and I hope he has an education that will propel his life after football forward. And if Aune is doing "Aune like" things this time next year please extend him the courtesy of not dogpiling on him if he isn't doing it at SMU, UTSA, or here. -
Texas State exist only in movies and commercials for virtually everyone who doesn’t live near it or have a connection to it. Our university’s location in our states largest media market is unique. “Texas State” doesn’t reference that at all. Moreover if we had held on to state a dropped North, it (north) would have lingered anyway as we would geographically be the north campus of a “State University” system even though we would be the flagship campus. And our “A&M” system is already the equivalent to the "State" system in most states. Then you have other institutions in our state and Tennessee using the "TSU" Acronym TSU - Texas Southern U (played them this year and tsu.edu is them not the pretenders of Southwest) TSU - Tennessee State University in Nashville. So changing our name to Texas State wasn't the slam dunk positive marketing move you dream that it could have been. Unless it was done right before the movie Necessary Roughness was released. But that would have looked pathetic in my book.

I believe this is just overthinking it. We just need to same helmet logo except for a ONCE A YEAR throw back uniform event. Let current students and season ticket holders vote on it. Whatever we do logo and primary colors needs to be consistent. And while I really like the black helmets they need to be retired. In general black used as anything but an accent color needs to go away for a 10-20 years minimum. I stress, that I like how black looks but for brand recognition it is terrible. When we have that brand recognition and association with winning football we can play with black again. Also I believe they should tinker try green on helmet face masks and green/black chin straps (I think there maybe rules on chin straps preventing that, there isn’t an excuse for not trying green face masks)

Colin Cancer Awareness Bowl doesn’t have ring to albeit a good cause. 🤷🏽♂️. With Tums as the sponsor maybe… Nevermind

Same here. I mean at least put Servepro and/or Dallas in the Endzones. 🤷🏾♂️ This looks like an live intersqad SMU scrimmage sponsored by a trust fund SMU alumi on the Servepro board of directors 🤣. Just more evidence that 7 wins or an appearance in a conference championship game should be the requirement to play in a bowl game. How many 6-6 bowl participants went 5-6 vs FBS competition this year? A total joke. Clearly fans aren't showing up for these games.

Don’t Criticize Unless You Donate!
Mike Jackson replied to 2020 Sucks's topic in Mean Green Football
Love this idea. And for the record you can find my name in the MGSF listing. -
Merry Christmas GMG Family! I mean family cause we argue like the most entertaining to be around for the holidays. 🤣

Nice, a lot of good information. But I have to mention the discussion of Aune "a lot good statistics if you take away interceptions" 🙄🤣. Dude I really appreciate all the hard work he put in but he was also 97th in completion percentage in addition to all the turnovers. I can't imagine Aune averaging more passing attempts per game and being more effective. I wish him the best but if he doesn't get another FBS starting job no one should be surprised. But I genuinely hope I am surprised with his success srarting outside of the AAC. (Hell he could put up monster numbers even inside our conference that don't lead to a lot of wins and I would be very happy for him.)

A full ride to Cal can’t be beat academically coming from UNT. But when "little brother" UCLA has to subdize the original flagship's athletic department when they leave for a better conference you can't take them seriously. Imagine if UTSA and UNT we're leaving a conference we shared with UT Austin for big money and UTSA had to pay big brother off to protect UT . 😂. Troy and Miami Ohio are just mediocre G5 programs.
-
The above comment is about only ONE of the weapons Aune had at his disposal this year. Does anyone think that coaching staffs around the country needing a QB aren't taking into account the talent Aune played with? How many times did Aune miss or not even throw to a wide open Jake Roberts? How many times did he get great running support and not be able to extend critical drives? I don't believe the "would trade rosters with UNT" quotes we have seen were just coach speak. Nobody is saying that about most of the FBS teams that fired their coaches this season. If Seth goes to Mississippi State we will get an accurate picture of Seth as an offensive mind. I still don't understand why he stayed with Aune all year.
-
Exactly, UT is not in the business of throwing money away at levels below coordinator. They know the UT brand opens doors to any high school in the state. As long as they have a hard worker in the position it won't affect their recruiting in the top 20 every year. If they want high in the top 10 recruiting that comes from the Head Coach, top Coordinators and winning big games.
-
I really believe sitting out a year if you haven't graduated is the way to go. Let them sit out year not diminish their eligibility. For FCS to FBS transfers or vice versa let them "poach" drama free. If you want dip into your NIL fund for player that might be passed on the depth chart before they take their first game snap go right ahead.
-
I classify this as all entertaining noise. Usually transfers from P5 programs have only proved they couldn't break into a starting role at the school they came from. Nothing but getting consensus 4 & 5 star prospects get my interest or a P5 starter leaving for family considerations. Keeping the maximum we can from current roster and early commits is the most important right now in my opinion. We don't have a bad roster on offense and I believe better coaching on defense could get them to play more consistent.

With the discount Seth gave us for losing all the other bowl games. 🤪
-
Overpaying and wild optimism got us into the 2021-2022 striving to be mediocre dilemma. That is saying something coming from me because I probably was the only one on this board seriously wanting UNT to make a huge public swing at getting Coach Sanders. And I only wanted that because of Deion's HOF history, time with the last Dallas Cowboys team to win a championship, and brining 4 and 5 stars players with him day one. You could have a billionaire dump $100 million into the program and not get kind of impact day one. I believe the department learned its lesson with Seth. You can't buy wins with a huge contract just ask Aggie right about now. (Get ready to hear language that would make a seasoned combat veteran perk up if you do). 😜
