You have to cut him some slack. A great TE room and potent run game usually brings higher pass completion percentage and few interceptions. Looking at our pass game numbers you wouldn't guess that we had a TE room many P5 teams would trade with us. I think our WR room was really good for G5 also.

The calendar is the only problem I have with the transfer portal. I believe it should close before Christmas. They should keep then one at the spring academic period and another one at the end of the summer academic period. And for the summer portal it should only be available for players not under a full scholarship or their school grants them a waiver.

No the Administration was just plain stupid giving him more years on his contract with 0 trophies and no significant bump in average home game attendance. It is that bad decision along with 25+ years of bad decisions with very little consistency that impacts fan support more than anything else. The perception of alumni who are college football fans but not really Mean Green fans is that the Administration hasn't been fully committed to winning. Seth staying a full year too long just reinforced that belief/perception. So I don't blame Seth at all for trying to get the best employment situation his family. They should have offered him and key members of his staff they mutually wanted to keep nice raises only with no extra years. That way you could have let him walk at the end of 2021 by being successful or getting fired without financial hardship.

SL is not the standard. For the status of the program it was a good thing that they got him to stay. But how they got him to stay was the problem. He should have only gotten a raise and reduced buyout without additional years. Ideally you want a coordinator on staff under the head coach you want to promote if the head coach leaves. A head coach level and taking most of the staff with him every 3 year or less isn't good. Here we definitely need some stability another 8 year tenure with Morris getting us bowl games wins and at least 2 conference titles along the way. He finishes strong at UNT and gets a NFL Coordinator job or P5 head coach job. Patterson kept leveling up TCU conference affiliation which made him more affordable with the increased conference revenue. You won't likely see that at UNT.

Breaking: KD Davis Tore ACL During Frisco Bowl
Mike Jackson replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I obviously disagree. These players risk everything and your "approval of their loyalty" or whatever doesn't mean squat. And Damar isn't a puppet for the argument because I could have used anyone that suffered a major quality of life impairing injury playing football. These recently created money grab created Bowl Games have always been stupid. And judging a player at the end of his college career by his decision to play in one of these meaningless bowls is more stupid these bowls. -

Wonder how that “respect” is going to help him pay his bills? And NIL (which he received very little) is now at its end for him. You used the word job. Well how much was his Frisco Bowl bonus/paycheck? We saw someone almost die on a NFL field getting payed well over 500k this year. The fact is very few people want to watch these exhibition games between mediocre teams. And it makes no sense for player that is finishing his college career to put himself at risk unless he wants to.- 53 replies

Well I was really take about our athletic program not having enough money to waste like TAMU or SMU. 😃

Integrity and the NFL in the same sentence. This is just sour grapes from a fan of program that doesn’t have the money to make bad decisions and stay competitive on the field. If you are a worker a new employer came offering better pay, better training, more comfortable environment and better chance of advance you are taking the job. “NFL integrity” is tied to guaranteed money over multiple years. Scholarships are yearly renewed. The fact at UNT we don’t have enough people to commit dollars towards NIL and the program in general. And leadership managing of the limited funds has been piss poor. If Seth finds a better QB wins more games this player among many others doesn’t leave. And maybe if they had fired Seth mid season and hired Deion Sanders you wouldn’t care about Jake leaving because his replacement would better. In light of recent reminder of what these players risk every time they go on the field, this whining about 20 year olds getting pennies on the dollar in college transferring irritates me.

Expanded playoff open door for NIT/CBI type arrangement in FB?
Mike Jackson replied to kj86's topic in Mean Green Football
I hope you are right 6-6 teams (5-6 vs FBS competition usually) had no business going to bowl games. The independent greed of the bowl games killed the opportunity to keep them in place and relevant in the National Championship process other than as sights for playoff games. The BCS was garbage. All they need to do do was have a 4 team playoff of bowl game winners after the Bowls. That way the penalty for losing or not even appearing in your conference championship game is not diminished. And I say that as I cheered for both Ohio State and TCU to win Saturday. Under a version of old system Utah va Michigan play in Rose Bowl, KSU vs Ohio State in Fiesta Bowl, TCU vs Bama in the Cotton Bowl, Georgia vs Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, and Tulane vs Tennessee in the Orange Bowl. We would have gotten 5 very intriguing games. And Tulane would have an automatic shot into the 4 team playoff if they rightly put in a stipulation that G5 with 2 loses or less with a conference title can’t be left out after winning their Bowl game. The playoff won’t be good for FBS football overall imo. In addition to the New Years 6 all we need was about 24 more bowl game for an even 30 MAX. That is 60 teams with is about 45% of all FBS. And with the safety concerns the last thing we want is for the players to play meaningless games very few will remember. 10 years from now will the Cheez It Bowl exist? If you got a Cheez It Bowl Championship ring who would care? The history and name recognition of the Bowl gives it significance. -
Unfortunately some members on this board appear to think being overly critical of guys that have finished their UNT career is some kind of loyalty badge of honor.

I don't think that is a bad take. I promise if I win the lottery I will subdized a team up podcast roundtable form.

Exhibition A for lack of fan support. Programs that debate letting go a head coach with 6 years, no conference championships, no bowl wins, and below 0.500 against FBS competition don't do things like this.

🤷🏾♂️ Maybe he has seen practice tape on the other QB's on the roster? Also you can't fault him for being pragmatic in the face of not getting to Recruiting season with all his resources already in place. Also I don't he is promising Aune the starting job just a chance to legitimately compete for it. I think he has heard from NFL scouts and now knows for certain he won't be drafted. More free education (without the transfer credit challenges) is nothing to scoff at either.

I don't know why he would believe TCU or SMU would want him as anything but a backup. And from a financial standpoint going there as a walk-on would not be wise for grown man with bills and a family. TCU certainly is probably keeping scholarships in reserve to capitalize on huge amount late season pub. They have a head coach that isn't going anywhere (not even the NFL) for at least 4 years. You usually can't say that for any program not even Bama. Maybe he heard rumors about multiple SMU quarterbacks leaving is the only way hoping for a local move makes sense.

SMU Football Born & Raised featuring Demerick Gary
Mike Jackson replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
@Coach Andy Mac. You should post this in the Lack of fan support thread. (I hope you don't mind me doing it for you). These are the things leadership hasn't done here.... But again you want stuff like this an Adminstration that would bold enough to fire a BELOW 0.500 against FBS competition coach mid season is what you want. -
No, because he should have recuirted and developed an alternative that was better. I still believe that Bean in a system taking advantage of his legs would have been a more productive (W/L wise) QB. And even if I am wrong about Bean it still overlooks not recruiting guys better than Gunnell or Ruder.

You are 1000% correct there. I grew up in Denton and if you told me that UNT no longer played "big time" (as I had no clue what D-1 mean and FCS identification wasn't used until the 90s) college sports I would have believed you. The only thing I knew for certain is that it had an elite music school and it was primarily known for educating teachers (outside the color green, logos and Eagle mascot 🤷🏾♂️). It was only after leaving and spending time away in the Army that I researched and found out my home town school was just as viable as any other large public university in our state and better than many. If I had the resources and grades out of high school to pick a school I doubt I would have researched UNT.

As I don't listen to others I will need to take your word for it until I visit a few others on Varsity. I suspect you are probably right.

I more so meant a pass happy quick scoring spread formation offense than the Leach Air Raid. Because regardless of the differences between those systems keepna time of possession advantage is not a strength of either offense. Ironically it appears that Eric Morris had the unique experience of installing Air Raid on a team that had ran the Run & Shoot the previous season. The link below was the first hit on a Google search of Air Raid vs Run & Shoot. Nick left Hawaii to take the job at WSU in 2020. WSU's new Head Coach Installing Run & Shoot (2020)

I think TCU winning last night is good for us
Mike Jackson replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't buy this especially since they aren't on our schedule regularly or in our conference. If this was SMU or UTSA, rivals that appear on our schedule it would help us. Because in that scenario good players that aren't a fit for SMU would consider us if geography was a big part of their decision process. -
One thing I hope Eric Morris along with the new AD team will address is our lack luster podcast presecence. With a fairly successful long running broadcast department it seem pretty weak to not have a weekly official podcast leaning on current students and recent graduates for slow parts of the atheltic calendar. /The lastest episode link below was recorded before game against Grand Canyon 12/10/2022 - that is kind of pathetic imo/. The Barbershop podcast here on gomeangeeen.com is great also and I would like to see more of their style pulled into the Official Podcast. I like the Mean Green Show on YouTube.com also he had a good interview with Austin Aune after here entered the portal link at the bottom. There are so many opportunities to produce content and the fanbase needs to learn about our new conference foes. The GameDay experience is enriched the more fans know about our teams and school/opponents we are facing. Official Mean Green Podcast on Varsity UNT Broascasters Celebrating 50 Years Mean Green Show
