  1. A 6 year contract with early exit fee of 8 million would benefit both sides imo. There should be no exit fee at the end of the contract.
  2. We would all be happy to if you were on SMU or HOUSTON COUGAR board. 🙄 At least SMU is near us in the same conference with us and on our schedule. If you are so passionate and relish the opportunity to talk smack to Mean Green fans then lobby your athletic department to sign a 4,6,8, or 10 game home and home series with us. I am not sure if Texas State has a board but I would be ashamed of any Mean Green fan going to their board getting in a tiff with UTSA fans. It makes no sense. Kind of pathetic. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  3. Functionally making moves for individual school and/or conference revenue is not how you run a functional league. We could have a great robust stable FBS with about 100 teams if 60% - 80% of all media revenue went in to shared bucket. Also 25% merchandise revenue sold at venues on game day should be in one collective pot also. And functional standards should also be implemented to have FBS status. Not to pick on Rice, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and SMU but none of them should be FBS. Small private schools like that virtually never develop a huge following ironically because they are good at their primary mission; providing an elite education with strong small professional networks post graduation.
  4. I never heard of this at Fouts.
  5. Never heard that but North Central Texas region is one the worst areas in the country to live if you have allergies. Asthma usually goes hand in hand with Allergies. I grew up in Denton, with allergies and serval of my cousins in the DFW area had asthma and allergies but I never heard Acme plant being a source of inflammation.
  6. Yes, it’s weird location doomed it’s FBS level aspirations. In an extremely rural state like Idaho the metro population near the school needs to be about 100k or more centrally located to build financially stable FBS program. Have WSU so close kills the possibility of getting all the metro area behind the program. If Oklahoma State was just across the border and near to us as SMU is, I think trying to complete at FBS would be foolish for us. As for the MWC prospects look dim. These new media contracts seem overly focus on market/population density and your program’s value in that market. I would necessarily come after UNT. It would make much more sense to come for programs they could bring on at a discount with rivalries just waiting for ignition; UTSA, Texas State and UTEP. UTSA & UTEP don't have another FBS team playing nearby. Texas State playing UTSA regularly could be a really hot rivalry. I would take 2 of the 3 if not all 3 if San Diego State leaves. We just aren't a good fit. However if I can get an excuse for a Hawaii vacation every 2 to 4 years I will take it.
  7. You are exactly right. The NCAA is the whipping boy for all the problems in CFB. However it is the cut throat greed plain and simple. And that makes villains the leaders of top tier programs in football and a lot passionate fans can’t reconcile that fact. NCAA didn’t breakup conferences the greedy leaders of programs did. You couldn’t run a pro league with teams like the Cowboys, Lakers, and Yankees dictating revenue sharing without reducing overall interest in their leagues. No one wants to watch rigged games unless it’s tilted toward their team and they are a little in denial about it being a fair contest. Long term I believe revenue will go down when adjusted for inflation as have not programs (especially inside the P5) . I am going to savor the next 5 years because after that I believe Fall Saturdays scrolling through games in front of the TV won’t be fun anymore.
  8. They definitely need a more robust and active presence on YouTube and similar free outlets. They need a weekly UNT athletics show on YouTube weekly from late August till graduation. I just checked the official University of North Texas, YouTube channel and it only has a little less than 9000 subscribers. The last video that mentioned any sport was the announcement of the new basketball coach. That was about two months ago. Our marketing on the Internet, and outside of the Denton area has to get better.
  9. Very few people here are equipped to make an assessment. Star ratings below 4 star are a complete crap shot IMO. Unless you’ve visited off-season practices of several FBS programs over a decade, I don’t know how you would make an assessment. That being said, I am please that on paper recruiting wasn’t a complete disaster. That was a possibility given the late start and not having deep NIL pockets on par with top programs in the AAC. And even one the programs we have infrastructure advantages over, UTSA. Has kicked our ass and been on the national radar recently for winning consistently.
  10. Technically Huggins resigned. It might be difficult if Huggins was laid up in the hospital from a DUI accident he caused. Huggin’s himself or his team could have likely contacted Wren Baker first to inform him of his resignation and maybe try to save a couple of assistants. The difficulty is hiring a replacement under these circumstances.
  11. Man when you mention all that, it appears that Sonny Dykes jumped the gun to leave so early cause clearly SMU is no brainer add? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 What is so hard to understand that none of what you really matter when a conference is at the negotiation table with media outlets? On Saturdays, It is just as hard to find SMU games on the TV’s of local sports bars not hosting a SMU watch party as it is UNT games. Fans don’t tune in for academics and “great" facilities 2/3 full of lethargic fans. Every G5 with good facilities and near large population center is a “fixer upper project” for a P5 conference until they start winning and compiling seasons ranked in the top 25 (not weeks). Ninety percent of the consideration from these media outlets is what is your program’s TV ratings nothing else. Most of the remaining 10% is what markets/time zones you pull the best numbers in. If LA had a massive untapped SMU alumni/fanbase, the Pac 12 would have announced SMU’s addition within weeks of the news of USC/UCLA departing.
  12. It doesn’t have to be a stadium but it definitely needs to be something significant. I am definitely not opposed Mitchell being in the stadium name however I understand addressing financial need being the primary consideration. Winningest Mean Green coach by a long shot and a trailblazer. One of the few things I knew about SMU before going to a UNT vs SMU game was them being one of the first to integrate the SWC (they were actually second but tell the story like they were the first). Meanwhile Coach Mitchell & UNT Intergrated College Football in the state of Texas 8 years earlier. The SWC folded 25 years ago. 🤷🏽‍♂️ So honoring Coach Mitchell in a substantial, highly visible and long standing way beyond just our HOF and ring of honor is just a major oversight. Also if you dig through our history you will find our program was low key punished for being one the first to do the right thing.
  13. No news is bad news this close to the end of the media rights contract. If any of the proposed adds to the PAC 12 were a significant valued add coveted by potential media rights partners, their additions would have been announced already. Also if they had an offer equal to or slightly better than what the Big 12 is getting they would announce that. The only thing pending at that point would be negotiating deals for the proposed additions. I doubt the PAC 12 is holding up any negotiations based on adding G5 programs. So probably most of what is out there is not solid information from a solid source in the know. But I guarantee if they had good news from a PAC 12 perspective that would be out there for clickbait consumption also.
  14. Options in general in the Rockies and west are limited. The best options for BYU are all in the 4 corner states. SDSU without another school from the southern California region is not a good add from a travel partner perspective.
  15. Financially the Pac 12 is in a bad place owing money to Comcast. I don't see the remaining members agreeing to pay anything extra to add ANY G5 team. If adding SDSU was a immediate value add to the conference they would have added them already to add SDSU games to the media package negotiation.
  16. You really think “making the game better” has factored into any of the moves after the SEC went to 12 teams with divisions, and OT was created? Nothing prevented the elite schools from scheduling other elite schools for their out of conference schedules before. They want pro revenue from a non-professional league. They also want all that pro-level revenue without revenue sharing through the entirety of FBS. I love the NFL but I love CFB because it’s DIFFERENT from the NFL. 1. On Campus older stadiums, (the conference championships and playoff games take a lot of the best matchups to neutral field pro stadiums) 2. Storied Rivals play once a year maybe twice in an exceptional year for both teams. (With regular season, conference championships, and 12 playoffs teams will play each other 3 times the same year). 3. Some ANNUAL long standing rivalry games will no longer be annual because the conferences are too big. (I have heard that if the SEC doesn’t go to a nine game conference schedule Auburn vs Georgia may not be guaranteed annually) 4. Less popular regional rivalries are being killed by coast to coast conferences (is a Maryland fan regularly running into a Wisconsin fan and talking smack? Probably not) My interest in late regular season CFB not involving UNT has drastically decreased with with UT vs A&M gone and the very little on the line when 2 undefeated highly ranked teams square off. Now late season undefeated matchups of teams that are not long standing rivals will lack drama. Both will be going to the 12 team playoff. The 12 team playoff isn’t a total loser but losing some of that late season drama in the P5 conferences is high cost IMO.
  17. Man if you get any momentum going on this or name anything substantial in honor of coach Mitchell please let me know. He isn’t properly honored here for being a trailblazer and great coach. No Abner Hayes or Joe Greene UNT legends without him. I would love to see a stadium sponsored by Peterbilt or Acme. I don’t think Acme has the marketing budget. But I also think if we start winning and raising our profile they might regret not jumping on this opportunity. I am a little disappointed our stadium doesn’t feature Acme Brick in unique decorative ways. And am aerial shot of the Acme brick plant (with finished brick loads sitting out) scrolling over to Acme Stadium with some kind of iconic brick structure with Mean Green and an eagle logo it on game broadcast would be cool.
  18. 🙄 no self serving greed is the American way and it was bound to find its way down to the college player level. I think ending 50 year old rivalries over TV dollars is worse thing that has infected College Football. It is why our school doesn’t get to a lot of the schools we want to play. And if we stop playing SMU that will be a major factor. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  19. Please keep in my it is all a court ruling that broke up the CFA, greed of school athletic departments, greed of top coaches, greed sport apparel business, sport casters, (including those buying ads on those broadcast) and the greed of school leadership that passed the greed on the student athletes. I think people forget that. I like the old Big 8/12, old Big 10 (without Penn State), the SWC, and PAC 10. Most people welcomed 80s/90s conference realignment but now that the greed is fully unleashed it is a mess. Pacific Coast teams in a conference with Atlantic Coast teams. 🙄. So please reserve a lot of you disdain for the people profiting the most from the players labor on the field. Because it definitively isn’t the vast majority of players.
  20. I don’t think Memphis is an option for the PAC 12 by themselves or even with a team west of DFW. The PAC 12 has a problem with brands that bring large markets. Memphis isn’t a large market and they 2nd or 3rd fiddle in that CFB market. NOBOBY in the Memphis region except hard core Memphis fans (and fans of the PAC 12 team they are playing) is turning off a SEC, Big 12 or Big 10 game to watch Memphis play a PAC 12 opponent. They know this and so do the media outlets they are trying to negotiate with. Truth is if there were available options better than SMU and SDSU they would be in the rumor mill or probably already announced as additions. It’s far more likely PAC 12 survives as a pumped up version of a MWC+ adding teams like SMU and points west than Tulane & Memphis. The travel expense, splitting revenue with them and lack of fanbase they bring with them isn’t a value add.
  21. This is why I don’t understand the PAC 12 not being aggressive negotiating a phased shutdown of the Longhorn Network to add UT or adding Texas Tech and Houston. Hell they could have even added New Mexico to geographically lock up the entire Southwest to Southern California. Also BYU was available so many options but arrogance and complacency killed them.
  22. The only G5 school fans I feel sorry for us Boise State. If it were about on the field merit they would have been one of the first “promoted” to P5. Memphis is much closer to our level than ready for a promotion to P5.
  23. Washington and Oregon aren’t staying in a conference with SMU for long. PAC 12 will morph into a “MWC+” at best. Stanford and Cal are likely to leave also. So you are most likely looking at a “PAC 12” with the only holdovers that actually were P5 before 2010 of Oregon State and Washington State. That conference would not be significantly better than the current AAC if at all.
  24. I didn’t react negatively but is it really “information”? I mean I could create a YouTube channel talking about how Deion was scared too scared to wait around for a FBS job near Dallas to become available so he took the Colorado job. It a Go Ponies Channel not exactly going to be championing rumors (no matter how valid or sourced they may be) of the PAC 12 demise before SMU goes. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  25. I take Cal to cover;—- —— Those ugly uniforms with trash bags. 😆
