Morris Weekly Press Conference (11/05/24)
Matt from A700 replied to Big Z's topic in Mean Green Football
But he'll definitely let someone else's question be the headline of his story. https://dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/mean_green/morris-time-to-evaluate-direction-of-defense-will-come-at-end-of-season/article_99d66596-9bca-11ef-9c32-9bfc04b86a09.html -
I'll be at The Pit tomorrow, but between my friend group we've got 8 tickets unable to be used. All lower level near the UNT bench - two solos, a pair, and a group of 4. If anyone needs tickets, let me know! Per my ticket rep a ticket for the men's game will also get you into the women's game at 5:30 if you can make it.

Not the case for us, this will count for our regular season record.

Thinking about Evansville's comeback attempt, we gave up 46 points in the second half which is a lot but that Italian freshman is good. They got really aggressive on defense but we turned the ball over a lot less than we would have last year, and it even resulted in a few really nice saves by our guys. Additionally, the Aces made a run, but we avoided having one of our patented 5+ minute scoring droughts. If anything, we may have had a drought around 3 minutes at the longest. Other things I straight up liked: Massie: Loved his work on the offensive glass and getting himself in good position for putbacks multiple times Sissoko: Was a lot quicker with his hands on offense and defense. Doesn't fill up the boxscore with double doubles but his work this offseason was seen last night. Also had two clutch FT's. Free throws overall: A lot better Finishing at the rim - we really struggled in this department last year Also, I'm interested to know what the team thinks about the goals at the Pit. Buggs made a comment to me on Twitter this summer and it made me think yesterday. The goal closer to the student section seems to be a more shooter-friendly goal and it proved so again last night. A colleague in the Mean Green group chat pulled up our stats from last year: 40.9% on 3's in the first half at home, only 34% in the second half.

Hopefully we get to see 13 players (or however many we're allowed to play in a game).

Did they fix the plumbing at Tooter Fieldhouse?

I'm excited and worried to see what attendance will look like this year. Home opener on Election Night gets an expected low result. A lot of games over the Break, including one the Monday of Thanksgiving Week and only two Saturday games all year. I'm curious what Game 2 will look like tomorrow against NAIA Wayland Baptist. Doesn't seem like there's been much marketing for basketball yet.

Rice doesn't want to win, they just like to troll.

Wichita beats WKU on the road. Memphis takes over to beat Mizzou. As fun as it is to see other teams in our conference fail (mostly Memphis), really need the other programs to step up as much as we do to increase the prestige of this league. This league is good enough to have 3, 4+ teams in the dance every year. Have to show out in nonconference.

Vote early, get to the Pit! We won't have a confirmed President tomorrow anyways.

Yes. NIU got ranked at just 2-0 after being Notre Dame.

Kyla Deck, a transfer from SFA, scored a team-high 27 points.

2024-25 MBB/WBB schedule news
Matt from A700 replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Yeah 7:30 is unrealistic. But assuming the TSU game isn't a close one, it should go by pretty fast. I'm a fan of the four 10-minute quarters in the women's game. -

The ladies moved their game up that day 30 minutes so we'll have a doubleheader at the Pit on 11/7. Women at 5:30 pm vs. Texas Southern and men at 7:30 against Wayland Baptist. -
Hedlund Wins 400th Victory by beating Temple 6-0
Matt from A700 replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Athletics
No need to apologize! We have only seven wins with one game left in the regular season. None of those against UTSA, Rice, ACU, or TAMU Commerce. Those programs used to never be competitive with us. -
Just pulling your leg but I agree. Love this time of the year, though this is when my marriage is most at risk. This upcoming week, we'll see (in Denton): Monday, 11/4 - WBB Tuesday, 11/5 - MBB Thursday, 11/7 - WBB Friday, 11/8 - VB Saturday, 11/9 - FB Sunday, 11/11 (allegedly) - MBB

The next installment of the "Battle of the Birds" is just around the corner in two weeks! If you can't take the day off and get down to San Antonio for the game, I definitely encourage you turn the TV on to ESPN2 and help with those ratings! But if you can or are interested in going to the game, please do! First off, if you're local to San Antonio, the alumni chapter is hosting a Thursday night pep rally since the Friday game doesn't really promote tailgating. The pregame event will be on Thursday the 14th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Dakota East Side Ice House on 433 Hackberry. If you live in the area, join the SA alumni chapter on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/461338011152328 I bought our first 15 group-rated tickets in Sections 136-137 behind our bench. We've got a block developing near the field in Section 137 for our rowdier crew and a block developing higher up in Section 136. These seats are $31 through our group. For comparison, buying through the UNT site will get you in Sections 138-139 in the corner for $37 after fees. Loophole: if you don't care to sit with other UNT fans, but are interested in getting a few bucks off your tickets by buying through our group, here's the kind of rates for the other sections: 134 (50-yard line, lower rows) - $91 133, 135 (lower rows), 134 (upper rows), 233-235 - $64 133, 135 (upper rows), 232, 236 - $49 237-241 - $31 End zone (101-107, 140-144) - $21 Upper level end zone (201-204, 242-244) - $17 Let me know if you're interested in joining my messaging me here, or emailing me at meangreeninfantry@gmail.com. 2025 Schedule possible 10-2 with 7 home games
Matt from A700 replied to blg green eagle man's topic in Mean Green Football
If we get the continuity of a second Chandler Morris season, we are definitely poised to have an even greater year next year. Assuming a new DC and we just need a serviceable defense with that schedule to be in contention for the conference championship game. We will replace the WRs and RBs that inevitably leave, but it'd be nice to keep Sheffield. -
2024-25 MBB/WBB schedule news

I, too, have feared that we might be the embarrasing anamoly of the NCAA and play only 28, despite all the tweets this offseason about the mid majors having troubles filling their schedule. However, I have logged into my ticket account to try to verify my friend's claim and it is true. I don't have access to the tickets yet but within my order it has 16 home games with November 11 and December 11 listed against undetermined opponents and App State is already included. Will we know those opponents in less than eight days? At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is no. Although with Covid not a factor anymore, I don't know the exact date a schedule is locked up for modifications. -

Yeah if we were able to land UNC Asheville I thought that might be a road game scheduled for something like 12/9, right after our game at High Point in the first game of a home-and-home. If 12/11 is correct I'd imagine that might be a local NAIA/D2 team. UNT Dallas maybe? -
I've been curious about what runs through the heads of all the high school recruits. Are they thinking "wow our defense sucks" or are they excited about the opportunity to make a positive influence? On the other hand, are the offensive recruits excited to play here and put up big numbers, or are they discouraged by the poor defense that has made the difference in us being 5-3 instead of 7-1?

This will be three straight games on ESPN2 and five straight on linear television. Let's go and take advantage. I believe attendance will be greater for the Army game already across the board: alumni, students, opposing fans. I know we're pissed about the Tulane game but we've got an extra week to get the sour taste out. Going 2-2 on this Memphis/Tulane/Army/UTSA stretch would still be a lot better than last year's 0for on the Tulane/Memphis/UTSA/SMU gauntlet.

And assuming Odom would be the interim, I would hope that would help prevent a max exodus of defensive commitments.
