Rubin Jones to enter transfer portal...

I get a good laugh every time you have to get on to someone for this LMAO. Reuben deserves better. -
Rubin Jones to enter transfer portal...
Matt from A700 replied to Jdawg48's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Damn, losing Aaron and Rubin even bumped the basketball subforum down below football again... -
Losing stars to the portal seems to be a much bigger gut punch in basketball than football. But this year proved we can rebuild into a 20-win team as fast as anybody. The NIL drives me nuts but at least don't question your season tickets. We still had our highest attendance in 47 years this season. Yet I bet most people not on this forum that go to games couldn't even name all the starters on the basketball team when they were students.

Do you know who the program was? OSU would work with the timing of beating them in the NIT. I wonder if they got offers this time from a program like Houston that would allow them to play in front of friends and family every home game.

I will always be a fan of Aaron and Rubin but with the last two high school recruits-turned-stars for us leaving, I am 100% on board with majority focus on recruiting scorers out of JUCO/D2. They may leave after a year or two as well but at least we know they are proven at the collegiate level.

Premier home game Wednesday against ranked OSU. The game is already sold out, so if you don't have tickets your only way to attend the game is to pull up into right field and hold your bladder. Hopefully there's more green than orange. We beat OSU at home last year, 5-1, for our first victory over the Cowgirls since 2015. Hopefully the bats show up. So far during our tough nonconference season, we've struggled on offense against every power conference team except Texas Tech. This will be a quick pit stop before going back on the road to resume conference play with UAB.

I would like us to find a big man who can score, even if that requires recruiting from D2/JUCO. It'd be nice to have big threats in the paint and behind the arc, like WKU with Hollingsworth and Bassey.

SB vs. UT Arlington (3/26/24)

Thank y'all for coming out, it was a great time! With more lead time I'm looking forward to doing similar, bigger events for all six spectator sports in 2024-25! -

Very unique setup. I wish we could get some shade and seatbacks at the Lace. Here's the grandstand at Wichita State where the conference championship will be. -

Good to see our offense show up after getting shut out last night. FAU wins, too. -

Yes but it's be nice to grab one of those top two seeds who only have to win two games to win the title! -

I will not poke fun at you saying you think Edwards will return like an hour before it dropped he was leaving lol, but I am cautiously optimistic about most of the others. Similar to Chandler Rogers, I did not see Jason really publicly engaging with Mean Green nation on social media. Meanwhile Rubin's mom and Aaron's HAVE been, and now even CJ's mom and Cotton's mom, have been big, noticeable parts of UNT Twitter. I feel like they are truly part of the Mean Green family, as much as one can be in the days of the portal and NIL.

BREAKING: Jason Edwards to enter transfer portal
Matt from A700 replied to Jdawg48's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This thread really snowballed before I could comment, but I wish Jason the best. But I'm not surprised. Let's see which Kansas JUCO superstar comes to North Texas next.... -
I hope eventually we fill these spots left by guys like Morgan and Moore with players who can regularly be in the rotation. I'd love to have 10 used guys... they don't all get 10 minutes a game or just garbage time minutes, but 10 guys who can be ready and contribute and provide 20+ minutes if needed due to injuries or foul trouble.

FAU ties the game up 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th with ECU. Takes another seven for anyone else to score a run. ECU wins 5-4 in 14. Wichita State could have made it a three-way tie for first but lost to Charlotte 4-2 after scoring the first two runs. So UNT doesn't lose any ground, remains tied with FAU at the top of the conference at 8-2. Charlotte and WSU are 7-3. -

4-0 USF in the sixth, but FAU (ranked #25 nationally now, by the way) is also trailing ECU 4-2 in the 6th. -
Starts tonight at 5 Central instead of tomorrow, assuming to accommodate for Easter. USF enters the series at 23-13 overall but 3-6 in conference play. They've lost 2 of 3 vs. Charlotte, at Tulsa, and at UAB. FAU, who we are currently tied with for best record in the conference at 8-1, gets a home series with ECU this weekend, who is 24-9, 2-7.

If you want to use concessions or restrooms, you do need a ticket though. -
This would be the correct assumption.

SB vs. UT Arlington (3/26/24)
Matt from A700 replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Mean Green sweep UTA in 2024, making nine wins in their last ten games after a rough nonconference schedule. UNT got a run in the first before going down 4-1 after a big 3rd inning for UTA, highlighted by a three-run homer. That was the only damage Childers allowed. We finally regained the lead in the 6th and added insurance in the 7th to go ahead 7-4. In both innings, the 11-20 Mavericks let long fly balls get away from them, one going through the glove. Overall UTA had six errors and four hits. A small group of us featuring @untcampbell and @FirefightnRick made some noise behind home plate! -
I will be interested to see how the attendance is if the championship is something like Seton Hall vs. VCU, and not Ohio State vs. Indiana State/Cincinnati.

It looks like the mighty Mastodons still have to get through Norfolk State: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_CollegeInsider.com_Postseason_Tournament But needless to say, I don't think anyone was asking for the CIT to return this year. After only finding 9 teams to play in the originally-planned 16-team tournament, I think NCAA, NIT, and CBI is all we need next year, assuming the CBI can fill their 16-team field. I like keeping the NIT on campuses the first three rounds, though I wish the Final 4 would return the MSG. The CBI can keep the "mystique" of playing four days straight in a neutral destination city.

Very appropriate. Just like the other America's Team in Arlington, SMU's stands will be filled with visiting fans.

This is a good reason why we need to stay engaged with Denton ISD at all ages and the surrounding schools. Let's make these kiddos Mean Green T-shirt fans before they're old enough to know what a T-shirt fan is! I know the women's basketball team has an 11am game that is usually one of the most highest attended of the season due to all the DISD kids they bring out. I don't know if you could do a midday game during the week for any other sport. Perhaps volleyball, but they don't have any trouble filling that high school barn. Possibly soccer and softball, too. This year in softball, the Tracey Beard Classic was in Denton, but the past two years it's been in Melissa and Celina. Maybe if the tournament is moved back to Melissa, the Friday morning game could be a field trip for one of the grades at MISD. Or make it a Monday-Wednesday tournament playing all day games to expand your reach. Develops a few new fans in Collin County. The capacity appears to be comparable to Lovelace.
