Women at Santa Clara (12/15/24)
Matt from A700 replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Ladies rally in the fourth to make it a respectable 63-58 final. 0-3 this year in games played west of Texas, maybe there's a reason outside of cost neither of our programs travel to the west coast often. Looking at the statsheet (I wasn't able to watch the game), Lampkin had a game-high 25 with 8 rebounds. Only Deck (11) also had double digits. We went 3-19 from three. Their Australian Pollerd only had 13 but two of their four long bombs. The Lady Broncos were led by their guard Hannah Rapp (also Australian) with 16. At 7-3, we still own the second-best record in the mediocre AAC, only being 7-1 UTSA. The ladies only play UTSA on the road on Tuesday, 2/4. UTSA's women's program is on the rise, and they swept us in two meetings last year. Last two games of nonconference are a MTE with SMU (Thursday, 12/19) and Chicago State (Saturday, 12/21) in Denton. -

Guess not. 46-33 SC with a minute to go in the third. -
Last road game of nonconference as the ladies (7-2) travel west to play Santa Clara (5-4). The Lady Broncos posted the best record in 2023-24 of any of our nonconference opponents at 25-9 and made it to the second round of the WBIT, but now it looks like a much more winnable game as two of their five wins are against non-DI competition. Notes/comparison: Santa Clara has one scorer avergaging double digits (we have four) and that's 6'3" forward Olivia Pollerd at 17.8 PPG. She's also their most lethal deep shooting threat at 37% with a team-high 20 triples made on the season. We average 69.7 PPG and Santa Clara averages 65.1. We give up 61.2 PPG and Santa Clara gives up 61.0. Both teams shoot far fewer 3's than their opponents. We have shot 108 and our opponents have shot 200. Santa Clara has shot 162 and their opponents have shot 221. Our percentage is better at 32.4% compared to SC's 29.6% Santa Clara has definitely been able to put together the tougher schedule. In D1 competition, our wins are against teams with a combined 22-42 record. Santa Clara's wins are against teams with a combined 17-16 record. Our losses are against teams with a combined 12-8 record. Santa Clara's losses are against teams with a combined 29-11 record. We probably won't have to worry about a homecourt advantage. Santa Clara is averaging an announced attendance of 230 per game through their first four at home. Take care of business tomorrow and we likely go into AAC play with 10 wins!

'19 QB Maverick McIvor (San Angelo)
Matt from A700 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
We've offered him again! -
Agree, I think Wright, Jossell, Lorient, and Massie/Floyd are all guys that could lead us in scoring any night, but in close games having a clear #1 who can create and wants to take that last shot would help us be a clear Top 3 in the conference imo.

Nope, but I'm sure the game being on a Friday influenced it. I'm also not sure how much the band director's discretion has to do with it. I would hope and assume the band would be in Dallas, but last year there weren't even student busses arranged for the SMU game. All the social media accounts were pushing people to watch on ESPN2 instead of attending.
-
Have we even confirmed we're taking the band? I was disappointed they didn't travel to Lubbock or San Antonio.
-
Sadly I think I'll have to watch this one from home. Five games in five night at The Pit and I plan to go to the women's game against SMU, and men against App State and HCU. Hope we see a lot of Cotton, Mason, and Vice.
-
IIRC Atin was the highest scoring transfer, but I think he only averaged around 14 a game last season.
-
Our losses this year confirm my worries that we didn't sign a big enough scorer this past offseason. Even if it's at the JUCO level, I'd like to get someone who averaged 18+ PPG and is used to being relied on for points late.

Not sure we've ever had games in this many consecutive days since I've been following. Between next Wednesday, 12/18 and Sunday, 12/22 we have three men's games (including Friday vs. Appalachian State) and two women's games (including Thursday vs. SMU). Here are some deals to get your butts to the Pit.

Around the League / UNT Opponents

But then it comes back in full force. Five games in five days at the Pit from Dec 18-22 between the men and women. -
I have already interpreted it as "Old Denton thinking" lol.

Can you please let us end our bowl drought?

So weird. Wonder if there's any interest between the MWC and any of the powerhouse FCS teams in the Dakotas/MT/ID. I know there's a big fee to jump but I figure at least one of those schools would have the ambition. And any of them would be a bigger get than UC Davis. Hopefully Northern Illinois doesn't take the bait and wreck the MAC.

This may be what we have to do. Bowl game to be replaced by GMG/TXST forum flag football match.
-
I really would have liked to see Cash in Mestemaker's opportunities.
-
-
I'm sure we will find a solid replacement next year, but I still want to win a bowl game dammit. Gonna be nearly impossible if Mestemaker is our best option.
-
Missing FTs at the worst time. We started 10-10.

Officiating is gonna make the end of this game unbearable.
