UH BOR chair has nuts... really stupid though.

I'm not mad. Not at all. Just stating an opinion. If you don't like it b/c you're a closet UT/ATM t-shirt fan then that's on you. -

I am not questioning they are not *the* destination university for recruits I am questioning the product for their praise...that is all. 4 Big 12 championships in a combined 35 years in the Big 12. 4/35. FOUR out of THIRTY-FIVE. So, it's quite apparent they don't have consistent success within their own conference let alone nationally. **It's going to be a long time before ATM sniffs a SEC title, long time. So, their product isn't the reasoning for being *the* destination. North Texas needs to do whatever they can do to figure out what the reason is and try to mirror it. We already have the not being a consistent contender in our own conference down pat....now....on a serious note what's next?? If I'm Prez S at the end of this bball season I am sitting down with RV (if I don't already fire him) and telling him to pull out a pen and pad and write down every word I say... Market. Market. Market. Market. Market. Market. Market. Market. Market. -

I got a -1 for this post on a North Texas sports forum...I think you, whoever you are, are on the wrong teams site. Go take your fake ass UNT gear off and go become a never ending compilation of UT/ATM t-shirt fan. -
Yes and no 90. Everybody plays FCS'. The "big boys" even play one often as well. It is not going against the grain or being just "little ole UNT" by playing a FCS each year. I don't care if it gives us false-positive expectations. It gives the kids confidence and winning any game 77-3 puts a team on the map, even for a second take look at the score. It's a good system to start playing FCS opponents. What really hinders our scheduling is RV thinking that he has to put a road P5 team on the schedule to balance our budget and to avoid him having to put in committed work in to his AD job. That is the problem...the problem is not the Army/SMwho series or the FCS opponent. The problem is having to do body bag games or "opportunity games" every. single. year. It would be nice to see our Alums or us starting a "avoid body bag game every other year" fund. If it was created into an organized fundraiser such as the current one with the "invite 25" or whatever it is called it may work. That would give RV some flexibility to schedule a P5 game with a little more "opportunity." A game at home that we return. That is the way it is going to have to be done. Oh and take a look 90...everyone is playing FCS. http://www.footballgeography.com/history-of-fbs-i-a-vs-fcs-i-aa/ It may kind of slow up a little bit with the P5 wanting to play a higher level of competition throughout the season but its happening either way. In the event that P5 conferences start banning FCS opponents from their schedule then it will create some flexibility for the G5. They will have to schedule G5 more frequently, but now we'll have more room for negotiation. GMG

And what the hell prestige does UT or ATM hold in terms of consistently winning? ATM has been a nobody in the grand scheme of things for a long time. UT was consistently good vs consistently bad teams for a long time. Mack Brown won what?...2 Big12 championship there...TWO!! IN 16 years no less. This stigma of these programs being the program to model?? No, not really...not really at all. They are the program to model in terms of donors...if we or any program in the country had their donors we would be sitting at the P5 table along time ago. As far as ATM goes...ONE big12 championship in 1998. These notion that these 2 programs are the leaders of this state is absolutely moronic. They are the leaders in this state in $. In the grand scheme of things they haven't even been notable in their own conference when it comes to being a dominating program within. People need to see this and understand it. They are NOT what they are made out to be, they just aren't. -

UNT spring enrollment climbs as 34,163 students enroll

This all sounds great, but isn't 34K and change a drop. I thought UNT had topped 36K not that long ago? -
I have also noticed that regardless of who the lower tier P5 programs such as the ones that many on here want to schedule a game with at Apogee do not have anything special in their classes. They get that bump up in recruiting based on affiliation. Prime example is lowly Wake Forest. Their headliner of their class was a TE that at one point and time had a Miami and Alabama offer, but since he committed to Wake its very likely both of those offers were pulled. They had a couple of other guys with multiple offers, but ODU and Wake were often going after the same group of players. YET, Wake Forest's class is 53rd in the nation? Yeah, I'm not buying that. Again, Georgia Tech's highest rated recruit had 0 P5 offers. They have 0 four stars and ironically every single one of their 27 commits are 3 stars. Many of their commits do not have multiple offers and several of them are only G5 offers. But somehow ALL of their commits are ranked/rated/reevaluated and moved up from a previous ranking. YET, Ga Tech is the 43rd ranked class in the nation?? Not buying that either. Boise has a better class than 10-12 classes ranked ahead of them, but Boise sits at 55th class in the nation (kind of where the P5 & G5 start merging together in the rankings). IMO, winning is a mindset regardless if it is force fed to you (P5, particularly lower tiered P5) or if it is something that is developed and set in stone by a tradition of winning (BYU/Boise/Utah (before P5 invite)/Utah State/NIU/etc.). The G5 is being weeded out financially, psychologically and literally.

Rivals is not kept up to par with the other sites IMO. There are never up to date with current recruits or commits and from what I have gathered there is never a reevaluation of recruits either. They slap a rating on them and it usually sticks regardless of their offer list. I personally think 247 Sports does way more due diligence in comparison to Rivals.

UNT's schedule is out... We will not rest
Lydia Gooding replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, imagine this... Imagine UNT playing at Iowa and then playing at Iowa again. Now, imagine Iowa not playing in Denton, ever. Then, imagine us having 5 home games this year. So, your imagination should have us playing at Iowa twice while having at least one 5 home game season in that span. So in other words, what you are asking is already happening except for the "1" on that 2-for-**1**. So, yes, I am in favor of well thought out 2-for-1's. I would even be willing to bet we could, with a competent AD of course, schedule 2-for-1's while ALSO having 6 home games. Crazy, right? -

Yeah, no doubt. There is no excuse for the Union being behind schedule, no excuse. It's a renovation, not a new building. 2 years is more than enough time. Fall 15' it must be up and ready to go. The Union will attract a lot of students and interest at UNT. Construction really kills campus vibes and current and prospective students feed off of said vibe. Due to the construction going on that vibe is lacking a little bit. Long drawn out construction projects are so annoying. Since I'm on the subject, University Dr needs to hurry it up. Also, I read somewhere that this I35 expansion isn't suppose to be done until the summer of 2017!! I hope that was read wrong on my part. GMG -

This was a great read...Prez S obviously sees pretty much everything going on that needs attention. He knows the potential and he understands what needs to be done. We'll see if action is taken in the future to establish some of the things he was talking about. Whoever did the interview, great job. GMG. -

Encouraging recruiting post from Eric Capper
Lydia Gooding replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Flip that guy from Paso to UNT and I will be happy. This class is set for the most part. Sites that rank recruiting classes are going to tear into this class and rank us low bc of the number of JUCO's, but that is OK. I like most of the guys in this class. I think we went a little too heavy on a few positions that could have been used on the DL, but no complaining just observing. It is NEVER a bad thing to have too many DL, particularly DT's. I like the class and I think McCarney and Co. did a decent job. I bash them a lot, but this is a slight praise. Now all they have to do is use the recruited talent to produce wins, ya know, the hard part.- 12 replies

I know UTEP is going through a rough patch in their season but they beat 5-10 on that list. They are just better.
