I realize that Texas State has only been playing at the Division I-FBS level since 2012, but since then, both programs actually have the exact same number of wins (seventeen). And yes, Coach McCarney and his staff currently earn higher salaries, but it's not unreasonable to suggest that changes if Dennis Franchione continues to guide his team to an improved record each year. I don't know if this comparison has ever been made before, but I was really quite surprised by the results.

I believe that season ticket holders can review purchases online from their "Tickets and Mean Green Club" account. From the home page, click on the "Manage My Tickets" link to see an event calendar displaying all of your current ticket purchases. There should be an entry for "SMU Tailgate Event" on September 12, if you've already made payment for that event.

I don't know for sure, but I think that food and drink will be provided. At least, I believe that was the case last year in Austin. I honestly don't know for certain.

I called the North Texas Ticket Office today, and they confirmed that what Mark said earlier was absolutely correct. You can buy tickets to the game and/or tailgate event directly from them without the need to purchase any special promotional package. These tickets can be bought either together or separately. Current Mean Green Club members will need to pay $20 and $35, for admission to the tailgate and game, respectively. Non-Mean Green Club members will be required to pay an additional $10 for admission to the tailgate event.

Just wondering if anyone on this message board can provide additional details regarding the SMU Tailgate Event that is currently being promoted by the Mean Green Online Ticket Office. The description from the website reads: $95 Tickets & Tailgate Package, 2 Endzone Tickets, 2 Tailgate Tickets, Spiriki Mean Green Club Membership $135 Tickets & Tailgate Package, 2 Sideline Tickets, 2 Tailgate Tickets, Spiriki Mean Green Club Membership I'm trying to find out which sections these tickets are being culled from, and whether or not the Mean Green Club will be hosting the tailgate again this year. You won't hear any argument from this fan. If you were to throw in Kevin Galbreath's 2,417 yards from 2001-02, you'd not only have the top five career rushing leaders in program history, but an unbroken line of quality runners, stretching all the way from 1997-2013. That's nearly two straight decades of excellence at the running back position!

If I'm not mistaken, we did hold Tomlinson to less than one hundred yards during that game. In fact, I think he finished with only 75. It seems like both teams were content to just run it, and run it, and run it that day. The big difference was their ability to make the pass when it really counted. My hat goes off to a defensive unit that ranked near the very bottom of the country against the run, but still played tough enough to get the job done against a player of that caliber. No offense to four year letterwinner Ja'Quay Wilburn, but Ladainian Tomlinson was special. Considering the number of quality lineman that we had throughout those years (Phillip Armour, J.R. Randle, and Nick Zuniga come to mind.), I can't help but wonder what might have been.

I'm really hopeful that Jareid Combs can come in and contribute right away. A consistent pass rush would make life for our boys in the secondary so much easier.

Choosing a player from both the offense and defense, I believe that Jeffery Wilson and Cortney Finney will have the best opportunity to break through this season. If allowed, my honorable mention candidates would include Tee Goree and Tillman Johnson, respectively. That being said, if we are to hold out hope of improving upon last year's disappointing 4-8 campaign, then we should all be praying that DaMarcus Smith is even given the chance to break through this season. And if we are to finally break an 11-year NFL Draft selection drought, then Marcus Smith will need to improve upon an already-terrific season, with an even better performance this year.

I failed to mention this in my previous post, but I wanted to recognize some of the Hayden Fry era players and staff who were in attendance that night. Mike Henry, Tim Loftin, Garry "Tex" and Larry "Co-Tex" Smith were there. Along with former grad assistant Leonard "Mad Dog" Carey, and of course, Randy, Zach, and Kelly Fry. We also had the honor of sharing a table with former Fry assistant, and legendary high school football coach, John Paul Young. It was an absolute pleasure for this football wannabe to sit and listen to them share their stories of the good ol' days. If any of you happen to be forum members, thanks for an unforgettable evening!

Hi Guys, I just wanted to provide a brief first hand account of the induction of Hayden Fry into the SMU Hall of Fame last night. I am pleased to report that there were no less than ten North Texas alumni, former players, and staff on hand to represent the Mean Green in celebrating Coach Fry's amazing 40+ years in Football. We made our presence known as we proudly displayed the Flying Worm on our jackets, and loudly cheered for the former NTSU coaching great. Even 3x Pro Bowler Jerry Ball took notice. He asked me after the ceremony, "What's with all the green stuff??" The highlight of the evening had to have been the opportunity to present both Coach Fry and Coach McCarney, who was also there to cheer on his mentor, with one of the lime green lapel pins that we had custom made for the event. Hayden is still as humorous an ornery as ever. The entire Fry family was very very nice, and all of the assembled Ponies were extremely gracious in welcoming a group of Eagles into their stable. If anyone's still looking for the black "Son of Worm" mini helmet, I found a few of them for sale on eBay. There were still four available at the time of this posting. If eBay's not your thing, then be sure to check with the stadium team store by the end of Spring Football Practice. Vanessa recently let me know that they are planning to receive another shipment just in time for the Green and White Game on April 18th.

UPDATE: I just spoke with Vanessa, who is the supervisor at the stadium team store, and she informed me that they've ordered more of the black SOW mini helmets. They're currently waiting on the vendor to process the order, but she expects to have them again sometime in the near future.

Did you have any luck? I went by the B&N bookstore yesterday and was told that they didn't have mini helmets. They directed me to the stadium team store, but they were sold out of the black one.

Haha. No, I sure don't.

I would absolutely love to buy a real one, if you know of where there's one for sale. Especially if it had Coach Fry's autograph.
