  1. +1. And it's being generous to say he was just a rung below.
  2. After your original post, I thought you were nuts. After the most recent one, I think we basically agree (which probably proves that you're nuts).
  3. Ever heard the quote, "It's the Jimmy's and Joe's, not the X's and O's."? My theory has always been that there are about 10% of coaches who will win anywhere, 10% of coaches who can't win anywhere, and 80% of coaches will have success/failure based on their athletes. Bottom line is that's it's a combination of coach/talent. Saban ain't winning national titles at UNT same as Bama ain't winning them with McCarney as coach.
  4. Couldn't disagree more.
  5. Honestly, I'd rather lose without him than win with him.
  6. This thread basically shows the personalities and mindsets of the membership here. Some are "glass half full" kind of guys and others are "glass half empty." I think the bottom line is that this kid is a stud QB at a small school in Oklahoma that has everything but the size to be a great QB. Would he be anyone's first choice? Of course not. Will he ever play a down for UNT? Who knows. Have there ever been other guys who had everything but size that ended up being great? Of course. Have there ever been guys who had everything but size who ended up doing nothing? Of course. My point being that every argument made for or against the kid can be easily countered depending on your perspective. If we're all just being honest with ourselves, this is the truth about this signing.
  7. http://michaeljohnsonperformance.com/ Someone better tell Michael Johnson.
  8. Tough school. Glad it's now his OLD school. Congrats to him on the 3rd place finish. Hopefully he keeps working hard and places one or two spots higher in the future. That would be pretty awesome.
  9. No one's making them play. Every athlete on every campus chooses to be a "student/athlete" instead of a "student." Of course, the problem with that argument is that it's actually false because many of them couldn't get into college if it weren't for athletics.
  10. Oh, the irony:)
  11. http://usafootball.com/health-safety/how-to-tackle People are trying to make the sport safer, but it may take a while for this to take root. Obviously (and unfortunately) many coaches still do as Quoner eluded to by "teaching tackling the same way they did two decades ago." I just wanted to post this so that people know there are many youth leagues are trying to make the sport safer.
  12. When all schools do it, it's tough to buy anyone off.
  13. I guess I've been lucky, but I've never been transferred. Always just tell the person that answered that I'm with THSCA and reserve my two tickets. That being said, a link on the website would be nice.
  14. WOW! If I went out dancin' with him I'd be considered the better dancer...and that's saying something.
  15. It's a good hire for mid-January. Had the job been opened in early December and this is who they hired I'd have said it was a disappointment. As with all jobs, including ours, time will tell.
  16. Not sure if he said it, but I think it's true. I still think the Big 12 is crazy to play a championship game. I have a better chance of succeeding RV at North Texas...assuming I'm still alive once he decides to hang it up:)
  17. It's ridiculous all the way around. Look at some of the other conference championship games: a team (Iowa, Florida) plays a weaker schedule by getting lucky with their cross-divisional games and they end up in the conference championship when they're probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference...at best. While the Big 12's "One True Champion" slogan embarrassed them last year, the concept behind it is true; all teams play one another and it's decided on the field. What would they have done this year, have OU and OSU play on back-to-back weekends? Let's take it to our conference. I'm sure we are the only team in our division that had to play Marshall, WKU, Southern Miss, and MTSU. The rest are playing the Florida schools, Charlotte, and ODU, which is hardly equal. But, I digress as I'm getting off subject. I, too, hope they don't get a waiver on the rule.
  18. I don't care if it's Cerbus's poll or Bleacher Report and I don't care that 's it's early January, B+ beats a lot of alternatives . I agree the grade really means nothing and it means little more than nothing after NSD, but at this point in time UNT has reason for optimism and that's something we haven't had in while.
  19. I first heard the pay raise was $50K, but today I heard $25K, which would seem more likely. Either is pretty significant. My understanding that he made somewhere between $100-110K at Allen.
  20. I think that's obvious, but it's still interesting to get different perspectives...even this early in his tenure. It will be very interesting to look back on this at various points in his tenure. If Cerebus keeps up the polls as he indicated, it will be fun to see at what point people jump on/off of the bandwagon. Bottom line: It's early January and not much is happening. At least the poll is a talking point, regardless of how relevant (or irrelevant) it might be.
  21. Seems as though Cerebus knows it too early to give a grade, but wanted a poll to track how opinions change over time. Though it's normal and expected that we'd be enthusiastic about a new coach, I think most of us are even more excited than normal because of the who we hired and how his staff appears to be coming together. Frankly, I think we made a better hire than other schools that I would consider our equals if not bigger/better than us. I think 90 is pretty accurate, but I hope he is wrong about the "falling off a cliff" after the SMU game. I think most people are at least somewhat realistic as to where the program is at. I mean, I'm called an optimist because I predict a 4 win season next year. The bar is obviously very low and I hope people will base this year on improvement rather than wins/losses.
  22. Haha. Yeah, when The Ticket is on one of it's many breaks.
  23. Listening to Cowlishaw & Mosley a few minutes ago and they were discussing Hyman being out at A&M. Cowlishaw says, and I quote, "It's not easy to keep an AD job in Texas." Now that's funny (or extremely depressing).
  24. First I'm shocked when news comes down that we may be getting a transfer QB from 'Bama. Now we are turning down a QB transfer from Ole Miss??? Let that sink it for a minute. Things have to be looking up for the Mean Green.
