Greatest High School Running Back You Ever Saw Play?

Agreed. The best I ever saw might not make a Top 50 or even Top 100 list of Greatest HS Running Back ever, but they are the best I ever got a change to see. -
Greatest High School Running Back You Ever Saw Play?
NT93 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Bam Morris may have been the best I ever witnessed in person, but I was chasing him around the field as he ran for 300+ yards Best I ever saw as a spectator was probably Donta Hickson from McKinney. John Chiles was pretty special at Mansfield Summit. He threw the ball, ran the ball, and caught the ball. -
NFL draft??? Are my talent evaluation skills really that bad?

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the opening weekend of the tournament is my favorite. I'd much rather watch UTA, Monmouth, or Illinois St. than a spare P-6 team.

Stud RB in high school. Welcome to North Texas!

Yes. I don't remember any details, but it is true to the best of my knowledge.

All-time best UNT FB player you ever witnessed

I wish the caveat had been made to list the year you began watching NT football. I'd love to know, for example, if you didn't pick Joe Green because you didn't see him play, or because you just think their are others who were better than him. That being said, this is a great thread and I've been reminded of some great players that I've seen who I'd honestly kind of forgotten about. I've been somewhat familiar with NT football since the late 80's, but I wouldn't say I was a real fan until the mid-late 90's. Freshman Jamario is the best I've ever seen. It was akin to having a Herschel Walker/Bo Jackson/Eric Dickerson type college running back on your team. As far as a career of being a bada$$, give me Booger. -
Awesome video. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but I find myself hoping they win just for Lance Dunbar and Cole Beasley.

Gil Lebreton: "Sue The Dr. Peppers Out Of Them"

I'll show my age here, but I kind of miss the days of several bowl games having an impact on the National Championship. New Year's Day was awesome. Maybe there could be a combo of the old bowls and the new playoff. Select the 4 playoff teams AFTER the bowl games. Talk about several bowls games having importance. I'm only half-serious, but it's somewhat intriguing. -
I don't really see Iowa or Missouri as body bag games. They are actually the kind of P5 schools we should be playing...home and home.

I was there last time with my brother and our two sons, but none of us could make it this year because of work. I'm sure there are many like us who would have loved to have been there, but it was just not possible.

Bowl Games vs Playoffs -> Why Can't We all be Greedy Friends?
NT93 replied to Mike Jackson's topic in Mean Green Football
The first playoff rankings don't come out until October, so there are no preseason rankings as far as that goes. I agree that if Houston may have had gotten in had they stayed undefeated, but it had more to do with their schedule (as compared to a Western Michigan) than it did to preseason rankings. That being said, no G5 has a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. If you're being honest though, Auburn is undefeated if they play W.Mich. schedule and W. Mich. probably isn't 8-4 if they play Auburn's schedule. I agree with you that it stinks and that no other major North American sport operates this way.- 8 replies

I don't know, man. Most of the offenses I see throw of bunch of short, quick passes, at a very up-tempo pace. I don't see a lot of "everybody go long." I also don't agree with the "defense be damned" assessment. I just think the spread offenses have made it almost impossible to judge defenses by the normal standards. If the other team is running 100 plays a game, you are going to give up more yards and points than would normally be considered good. Conversely, if your team is running an up-tempo offense, you aren't going to get much of a break before you are out on the field again. These offenses really put the pressure on defense in today's game. Having said all that, I do think that these offenses (and terrible uniforms) are ruining the great college (and high school) game that I love. Reading that back to myself makes me realize what an old geezer I am...except that I'm not really that old. LOL. I saw that Charlie Strong is reportedly in the running for the Temple job. I know that Strong had his struggles at UT, but I think Temple may actually upgrade at the head coaching position if they get him.

You sir...are correct. Thanks for the info. I honestly thought all of those Eagles, Ducks, etc. were the same with different colors. I'm sure there are slight variations among many of them.

That's not a SOW, that's a generic wing that every high school and college uses if they have any type of bird mascot.

I take the use of the word "siphoned" to mean a fairly significant amount...definitely more than just a couple of kids.
-
I would also say that this is really not about Brock/Aledo/Weatherford. I only responded about these schools because they were mentioned in the quote from DT90.
-
But I have a hard time believing the numbers are very high.

I think we mostly agree with one another.

I wasn't writing paragraphs, so... I think of "transferring" as just changing schools. The family still lives in the same home in a particular school district, but the kid attends school in a different district. Ex: Kid lives in Weatherford ISD, but goes to school in Aledo. As I stated before, if a family is willing to go through the hassle of physically moving into a new school district I don't generally have a problem with it (though I know there are exceptions). Ex: Kid lives in Weatherford, but the family sells their house and moves into a new house in Aledo ISD. I'm not sure what's incomplete about doubting that Weatherford has the athletic prowess to stock a couple of powerhouses in lower classifications. A bit of humor was intended based on Weatherford's past 10-20 years of football history. Speaking of confusing and incomplete: "Weatherford isn't the only school losing kids to Brock..but mostly Aledo." "Schools from county to county...and even coast to coast are as well." I guess you were intending to so that schools from county to county and even coast to coast are losing kids to Brock and Aledo? One other thing to consider: Often the coaches aren't recruiting kids to these schools. The results on the field cause families to seek out these schools. If a family is looking to move and they have the choice, the school, both athletically and academically, plays a part in that decision.

Not to speak for Harry, but I think he meant Frisco, not Plano.

If you can afford to move into a particular school district and are willing to go through all that moving entails then have at it. I don't really consider moving to another school district as "transferring." If you truly transfer to another school that's where I have a problem. I've heard that both Aledo AND Brock siphon kids from Weatherford, but I have my doubts that Weatherford is stocking two powerhouses in lower classifications.

What's much worse that private schools recruiting is charter schools recruiting. At least the private schools are not in the same districts competing for the same championships.
