I said this after the season and the downvote button on my post quit working due to overuse. Haha.

Grades for all 130 FBS teams for the 2017 season
NT93 replied to jperg2's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm looking at the rankings and I'm seeing many/most teams grade reflects their record vs. expectations. 9 wins from a team that was expected to win about 6 games probably deserves an "A-." I get what your saying about this being a "6-7 win team," but I think that should just temper expectations for next year. I don't think it should degrade from this year because on the scoreboard we won 9 games. The law of averages says we shouldn't have won all the close games that we won, but we did win them this year. -

Probably a big reason why they were given an A- instead of a B or B-. -

You could obviously make some arguments here and there, but overall very nicely done. -
I could be mistaken here, but one of those years he was down to the 3rd string QB fairly early in the season. Very few teams will win with their 3rd string QB.

Not a single one out of all 1,000 of them? That's crazy talk.

Kendal Briles -- North Texas Head Coaching Candidate
NT93 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Great question. I wouldn't take him over SL as head coach, but I might take him over GH as OC. I'm all about high character people, but that offense might make me loosen my stance a little bit.- 187 replies

Bobby Bowden on playing NTSU in the snow 1976

I think he's trying to be a (p)rick and I must say, he's doing a great job. -

That's awesome! -
Ok. I thought it you were saying that it needed to continue that these schools go undefeated and not get a chance at the national championship. It seemed as though your two statements were contradictory, thus my confusion. Thanks for clarifying.

What am I missing here?

I'm pretty sure every college athlete ever knew what they were getting into when they willingly and excitedly signed their national letter of intent. I wish I would have been talented enough to have been screwed over by a university who was making money off of me.

This is pretty much why I didn't want to play Troy. There are many P5's out there that I'd rather play than Troy because we had a better chance of winning AND winning would have opened some eyes. Troy was a no win situation. Beat them and no one's impressed lose to them and...well you see what happens, especially when you get taken out behind the woodshed. (And don't get me wrong, I think there are several teams that Troy would have taken to the woodshed, but most of America doesn't know that.)

Ain't that the truth. Agreed!

Nope, I didn't call it luck.

Nope. It's the blowout losses and the games that we won in the last minute or two that could have easily been losses. I understand a win is a win, but the reality is that we won five games that we very, very easily could have lost. I'm glad we won them and the win total shows 9 victories, but if you're being honest you know it's unusual to win that many games that come down to the wire. I'm getting downvoted and I knew I would, but I don't mean this as a negative, just as a reality check. I'm wearing my Mean Green gear proudly and I'm very happy with the season, but I'm also realistic. It should be noted that I had us down for 6, maybe 7 wins this year so the team exceeded my expectations and I honestly thought I had pretty high expectations considering where we were just two seasons ago.
-
Completely agree with the "You can't take away from 9 wins" idea. This team found a way to win those 5 games that they easily could have lost. Most UNT teams I've watched since the early 90's would have found a way to lose those games. That's what made this season so special. It's all the more impressive considering it's only year 2 of the SL era.

First of all, let me say that this season was fantastic. Hats off to the players, coaches, and athletic department. This was without a doubt the best season I've experienced as a Mean Green fan. BUT...were we not the worst 9 win team in college football? We were blown out 4 times and EASILY could have lost 5 other games (most of my season following the team we would have lost most, if not all 5 games). I know Bill Parcells said that "You are what your record says your are.", but I'm not sure that's true of UNT this year. I say this mainly to temper expectations for next season. While I hope for improvement next season, the reality is that we may have seriously over-achieved this year.

Awesome. These are the kind of teams I've been saying we needed to play for years. God Bless Wren Baker...and whoever else had a role in getting this done.

DRC: Jeffery Wilson's UNT career appears to be over
NT93 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. What's his legacy? One of the best running backs in school history OR he could have been one of the best if he could have avoided injuries? I think he was one of the best regardless and he could have made a case for THE best if not for the injuries. -
Who would have guessed these rankings at the beginning of the season??? Awesome. Just awesome. To add to my post, I honestly never thought I'd see the day we were ranked so high. I can remember looking at my Texas Football magazine just this summer thinking, "About the best we can ever hope for is to be about #5 or #6." Sometimes I really like being wrong.

Initial reaction: They're paying $7.5 million a year for a coach who had a worse record this year than the one they fired???? Next reaction: This was a done deal before they let Sumlin go. Final reaction: Why would you leave Fla.St. to go to eaTme? (other than the obvious 7.5 million reasons)

UT Freshman rushing record 276 yards vs Tech in 2015. He was a beast that game.
