How can you not root for that kid?!!

Reminds of the Stacy King quote after Michael Jordan scored 69 points in a game. “I’ll always remember this as the night Michael Jordan and I combined for 70 points.”🤣🤣

Breaking: JUCO TE Joshua Smith Commits to North Texas
NT93 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Thank you. I was trying to figure out what I was missing…Class of 2024 at Crandall HS, yet he’s a JUCO transfer who will be here in the fall??? I’m not the sharpest guy, but I knew that didn’t add up😀 -
“Judy MacLeod is one of the best commissioners is all the NCAA” Ok, maybe not a direct quote, but the guy broadcasting our NIT games with Frascella said something very similar…on more than one occasion.🤔

I don't watch the news a lot, but when I do, I usually watch WFAA. I've heard her mention UNT during the newscast on several occasions. If only all the local media members who are UNT grads were as vocal/supportive as she and George Dunham. Thanks for sharing!

UNT Just Won Its Biggest Sports Championship in 71 Years
NT93 replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
A few facts that lead me to believe we are a little better that "69th best." 1) FAU in the Final Four. They beat us by 4 points twice. That alone shows we belong in the discussion of best teams in the country 2) Best NET ranking that didn't make the tournament. Our NET ranking was solid, but I'd say we were underrated at 39. 3) UAB making the NIT final. This just shows that the conference as a whole was underrated. I know, I'm preaching to the choir.- 10 replies

Based on the thread title, you should have gone with your instincts. That being said, I hope reading the replies gives you and your friends a better perspective.

Entertaining thread. Did some of you guys expect him to wear a UNT shirt to Tech? He has to put on the appearance that he is excited to be at Tech (which I’m sure he is). That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care for UNT. I’m sure there’s a part of him that wishes he were staying. I feel certain that he wishes he had another week or two in Denton to celebrate with the team and staff. Unfortunately for him (and us) that’s not the way it worked out. I don’t see how you could have hard feelings for a coach who gave us everything he had and took our university to heights it’s never known.

I’ve never wanted a post to be more true than this one. -
You’re correct. My post was mostly knee-jerk and wasn’t really intended to question the rules of the game. That being said and after a little time to cool down and think about it, I guess it comes down to the fact that I disagree with the rule. If a player, (let’s call him Jelly) kicks out his leg to draw a foul, don’t call a foul. Seems like the perfect place for a no call. @Censored by Laurie mentioned that this is the counter to the flop, and I understand that and agree to a point. I just think if a shooter is kicking out his leg trying to draw a foul he is probably affecting his own shot in a negative way. A defender flopping is taking himself out of the play which should punishment enough. Both are judgement calls that can’t be reviewed, so you’re at the mercy of the official either way. I guess I just prefer a no call on both a flop and a leg kick.

Surprised they didn’t give them black shirts😮🤣

Let’s pretend for a moment that the official made the correct call (I know, it’s hard to do since it was so bad). In my opinion, the points shouldn’t be taken off the board if the shot is made. Give him the foul and don’t give him the free throw, but the basket should still count.

A phrase we heard often back in 2020. I thought it was ridiculous at the time, but some things that changed back then proved to truly be the “new normal.” What does this have to do with UNT? Well, it’s not just UNT and it’s not just football, but the transfer portal is the new normal. It’s driven me crazy and, along with NIL*, has made me question my love of college sports. That all changed during the NCAA Tournament. I didn’t watch a single game that I didn’t hear the phrase, “he’s a transfer from ________.” Didn’t matter if it was a P-5, G-5, public school, private school. Seemingly every school has players transfer in and every school has players transfer out. This is the “new normal.” If you were like me, you need to accept it and move on, or don’t accept it and drive yourself crazy every time a player leaves UNT. So starting with Var’Keyes Gumms, one of my favorite players on the team last year, I’m not going to be upset. Not necessarily going to wish him well, but also not going to hope he fails. I’ll celebrate and embrace the players who choose to transfer to UNT. Next player up whether they are currently on our roster or another teams. Like some of the “new normal” we saw with COVID, I may not like it it, but fighting it doesn’t do me any good. GMG * I haven’t yet had my awakening to accept NIL in its current form.

Surely playing a Big 12 schedule instead of a CUSA schedule would account for them outdrawing us by 15%.
-
Oh, it’s ridiculous thinking, no doubt.

For me, I think of UConn along the same lines as Gonzaga, Xavier, Marquette, etc. Kind of like they’re an underdog taking down the big boys. I know that’s not really accurate, just giving an example of why they aren’t hated (by me anyway). Side note: not a good decision by me to have Arkansas beating them in my bracket*😬 *I hung around the top for the first weekend, but I expect to be middle of the pack at best when it’s all said and done.

I’m not a Michigan St. fan and not necessarily an Izzo fan, but if I’m in the tournament, I don’t want to see him on the other bench.

Oregon fans would probably like to go to games, but can’t stand to watch a game on that God-awful court.

Walk-on decommitting seems like an oxymoron. Best of luck to him and I hope he succeeds, but this should not be a worry for UNT.
