  1. Has he? They’ve beaten one team with a winning record (if you’re lenient and call 5-5 a winning record).
  2. I almost stated it that way originally. The only reason I didn’t is because I was wanting to make the point that regardless of winning or losing those games, we’re the same team, only people’s perception would change. My point being, even if we’d have won those two games, we still wouldn’t be very good.
  3. Yeah, I saw that in the post by @NT80. I would have only been about 10 years old at the time, but I don’t remember these from Rice. I guess I should change the thread title to “Rice throwback helmet an inspiration for the SoW?”🤣🤣
  4. The FIU and Navy losses are the ones that define the season. Win those two games and we’re considered a decent team. But we lost them so we’re considered a bad team.
  5. From the standpoint of hiring Caponi or of hiring a 3-3-5 coach? Could have been a mistake either way or both ways I guess.
  6. This is, of course, true to an extent. The fact that each school doesn’t play each other is what makes it relevant. If the conference played a round robin schedule it would be basic math, but they don’t, so it isn’t. Also, I figured it based on each team’s season record, not just their conference record, so that discounts “a win for Team A equals a loss for Team B.”
  7. These are the combined records of conference opponents only. So, for example, our record doesn’t count Cal, FIU, etc. I’m doing this on my phone and I just randomly looked at each team, so sorry they aren’t in any type of order. Also, not going to guarantee 100% accuracy as this was done pretty quickly without any double checking. It’s pretty close though. This is only through the games that have been played so far. UNT 39-20 Tulane: 23-37 SMU: 18-44 Memphis: 27-32 UTSA: 19-41 Navy: 25-35 Temple: 30-29 UAB: 37-23 FAU: 23-37 Tulsa: 31-29 Rice: 34-26 Charlotte: 29-30 USF: 26-34 ECU: 35-25 What’s the point? None really. Just thought I’d be interesting to see.
  8. Calling now so you can say “I told you so.”?
  9. Our 5 one score games only gets us to 8-2. BUT, I think it’s lost on many people here how close we are to having anywhere from a decent to great record.
  10. No doubt, but in his first year here he doesn’t have those players. Were mistakes made in evaluating the current players? It certainly seems that way. Were mistakes made by not bringing in players from the portal? Probably (I say “probably” instead of “yes” because I have no idea how much effort was put into bringing in players).
  11. If a coach is a 3-3-5 coach, he’s going to run a 3-3-5. I don’t get how people don’t understand that.
  12. That sounds very plausible.
  13. SMU can make a case for easiest schedule as well.
  14. That’s a fact. Should be a good game.
  15. I think they are behind both SMU and UTSA, but the difference in the top 4 is very slim. I’m glad they’re ranked, but no way Tulane is #17 in the country.
  16. Who you got? I don’t like it, but I think it will be SMU vs UTSA. Since we had the misfortune of playing all the contenders on successive weekends, we’ve seen them all. I felt like these two teams were maybe a little bit better than either Tulane or Memphis.
  17. Excellent point. I was thinking there was someone before Peterson, but I couldn’t think of his name and didn’t bother to research. It was Hawkins I was thinking of. I forgot that their success started under Koetter. I do think it’s an interesting question: Did success bring expectations or did expectations bring success?
  18. I know the popular and probably sensible answer is “No”, but I’m torn on this issue. This defense has obviously been bad, but I’d like a little continuity. Seems as though we’re running a new DC through here every year or two.
  19. Speaking of Miami Vice and ugly uniforms:
  20. Serious question because I don’t know and I guess you may not either depending upon how long you’ve lived there. Have they always had those expectations or did the higher expectations come with the success they found under Peterson?
  21. I was going to say the same thing. Probably more to it than wins and losses.
  22. I was thinking the same thing. Kinne’s big wins are against 3-7 Baylor and 6-4 Georgia Southern. Prime has beaten one team with a winning record, 5-5 Nebraska. I’ve never seen a hype train derail so quickly.
  23. Maybe, but they didn’t respond immediately. We forced a punt on their first possession of the 2nd half and then fumbled the ball away a few plays later to set them up with a golden scoring opportunity. After that everything went downhill. Turnovers have been very costly the past two weeks.
  24. Watching this one from home. First UNT/SMU game I’ve missed in about 6 years.
