I don’t think there’s any doubt that’s true. As long as there is an SEC team, the games can be played.
-
Well said. The ACC is being treated as G5 even though they had a winning record vs the SEC this year. It wouldn't surprise me to see that trend continue in bowl season. Here's an opinion that most may not agree with: Alabama winning and/or FSU losing doesn't justify the decision to leave FSU out. I feel like Ohio St., Georgia, and Oregon could possibly win the playoff if they were in it. My point being that on any given day, there are about 8-10 teams that could each beat one another.

Seems like the portal will devalue coaches, not from an X's and O's standpoint, but from an intangibles standpoint. It would seem impossible to establish any type of culture when you have so many new players every year.
-
I think the issue is more so that FSU was ranked #4 prior to the conference championship games and, despite winning, they were bypassed by the teams ranked #7 and #8. Plus, and I’ve already addressed this, Liberty is not the normal undefeated G5. Honestly, they may be overranked at #18. Nobody is a bigger proponent of G5’s being given an opportunity to prove themselves more than me, but Liberty just doesn’t have the resume to be able to defend them. You know as well as I do that they were lucky to get the NY6 invite.

Hahaha. I didn’t catch that. @wardly You’re gonna end up like Kramer: waking up in the Hudson River…in a sack🤣🤣. I’m sure those New Yorkers wouldn’t be happy with you saying Fenway was in NY.

The mighty SEC vs the other P5’s during the regular season. Big 12: 1-2 Pac 12: 2-1 ACC: 4-6 Big 10: no games The biggest eye opener to me is that the SEC plays very few non-conference games against other P5’s. Each team plays about 1 P5, the rest are G5 and below.

Does/Should Liberty change G5 OOC Scheduling?
NT93 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Liberty is no where near the top G5’s of years past (Boise, UCF, Cincy, Tulane). Oregon may beat them by 50 and the conspiracy theorist in me says this is an intentional matchup to show that the G5’s don’t belong. SMU wouldn’t beat Oregon, but I think they could keep it reasonable. -
Breaking: North Texas lands Commitment from Cedar Hill DE

Love it!!! -
SMU needs to be replaced with aTm because they lost their starting QB last week and, well, aTm is in the SEC.😜

I completely agree about UCF getting screwed in 2018. I thought it was bad then and I still think it’s bad. The difference is that Oklahoma, Clemson and Alabama all had a loss, and Georgia had two losses. Undefeated UCF was still left out. That’s much, much different than what happened this year. I get the point you’re making about Liberty, but their schedule was worse than weak and they don’t have a single quality win. In this case, that’s like comparing 3A ball to 6A. By the way, I dislike FSU more than I dislike Alabama.

Anything that is not a fact is an opinion regardless of what it’s based on. Not sure what’s weird about stating that FSU did everything they could on the field to earn a spot in the playoff. I know the real reason they aren’t in the playoff is politics, but my discussion is based on the premise that they didn’t get in because people “think” Alabama is better. As I said in an earlier post, just scrap the playoffs and go back to the AP voters choosing the National Champion. I mean, they would have all of this “observable evidence” to make to be certain they got it right.
-
I can see that you and the committee use it form the OPINION that Alabama is better than FSU instead of using results on the field. Look, I’m sorry the mighty SEC shouldn’t have a team in the playoff, but that’s just the way it worked out this year. Hypothetical (and I know how you’re going to answer this) what if Jordan Travis hadn’t gotten hurt and the FSU offense performed similarly the final two games? Thank you. I can’t believe I’m defending FSU. They are bottom 10, maybe even bottom 5 on my least favorite team list.
-
You use FSU barely winning a rivalry game against them, but you excuse Alabama having to win with a Hail Mary on 4th and 30 because it’s a rivalry game. You must be on the playoff committee 🤣😉
-
What can you tell me about that Auburn juggernaut that Alabama beat in miraculous fashion last week. All I know about them is that they beat Cal (yes, the Cal that most on this board say is terrible) by 4 points. And that was with Cal getting absolutely screwed on a scoop and score TD.
-
So you’re advocating basing it on opinion rather than on field results? Seems ridiculous to me, but I guess the committee agrees.
-
I agree that it varies from year to year and I don’t dispute that the SEC has generally been the best over the past 15 years. I just get beat down by all the people who act like the SEC is so far and above all the other conferences.
-
SEC being the best conference is another opinion. I doubt I’ll do the research to disprove it, but if you look at head to head competition against other conferences, the SEC doesn’t dominate. But since when does head to head competition matter?
-
Your opinion of who’s the best is doesn’t mean they’re the best. Edit: Your=anyone (especially the playoff committee) not@DentonLurker
-
Or did it??? SMU is also without their starting QB. The takeaway is this: Don’t lose your starting QB late in the season. (Even if you prove you can win without him). The committee will “ think,” and that’s when the problems start.
-
A safe bet. Well played🤣🤣
-
That’s not the point. The point is that they did everything asked of them…they won every game they played. You can’t keep a team out because you don’t “think” they are as good. If we’re going to play that game, I “think” Ohio State is better than either Texas or Alabama. I “think” Georgia would beat Texas and maybe Washington. If we’re going to go by what we “think” let’s just go back to letting AP voters decide the National Champion after the New Year’s Day bowl games. I mean, I “think” UNT is better than FIU, but that doesn’t mean much, does it?
-
I was going to post that SMU had a very easy schedule this year, but I looked at Liberty’s schedule and, wow, SMU had a gauntlet compared to Liberty.
-
This is the whole problem with the committee. Nothing needed to be assumed. Everything was decided on the playing field
-
That hurts to hear if you’re Wash St., but that’s the truth.
-
They also lost to Cal by 4 and we lost to Cal by 37. I’m sure there are many other differences we could find, but I was pointing out all of the similarities that I found to be unusually similar. They played a much more difficult schedule in a much more difficult conference. That’s why I said we were the G5 version of them.
