I think this is a fantastic post, but I’m going to somewhat disagree with the first sentence. I think the transfer portal is the #1 killer with NIL #2. If a player only got 1 transfer (maybe 2), there would be much more stability regardless of NIL.

Honest question because I’ve seen this asked here and regarding high school playoff games. What difference does it make who the home team is in a football game? Assuming it’s just about better/more seating for the fans?

The title games are going to have to go away if teams are punished for losing them while teams sitting at home benefit. What kind of a stupid system penalizes you for reaching your conference championship game???

I think Ole Miss would beat Boise. I think aTm would be AzSt. I think LSU would beat Penn St. Let’s just stop playing the games and have a tournament for the SEC.

It’s about Bama because Bama is the team that’s going to get in at SMU’s expense.

That was true last week, but they were ranked ahead of Bama and playing Clemson helped their strength of schedule. If any team is punished for losing the conference championship on a last second field goal while another team is rewarded for not playing, the system is more screwed up than ever.

They are currently ranked 8th. How can you drop them 5 spots for losing the conference championship on a last second field goal? Oh, I know. Because there’s an SEC team needing the spot.

I dislike SMU as much as the average UNT fan, but if they get left out, they’re getting screwed. Nice reward for making the conference championship…getting left out of the playoff while Alabama sits at home and gets in.

You’re right. Alabama has 3 losses, so they shouldn’t be in.

Bottom line is that the SEC will get the benefit of the doubt every single time. Even though, if you look at their out of conference schedule, they are far from dominant.

I don’t mean this as being adversarial towards you, but this is the part of “the committee” that I don’t like. It shouldn’t be based on who they think would beat who, but instead on what you’ve done on the field. Alabama had their chances to make the playoff and they got beat by two 6-6 teams (OU and Vandy).
