I disagree. Oregon and Baylor can't win enough to make most of their unis looks good. I do agree with UNTLifer that the shade of green is correct. I also like the SOW. I'm more a fan of the matte than the chrome, but prefer just a basic, classy design.

DRC: A look back at the top five receivers in UNT history
NT93 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not too familiar with the guys from the 60's, but Chancellor and Fitzgerald were pretty salty. Frankly, I'm shocked that Brelan isn't on the list. Maybe because a lot of his greatness was as a return guy, but in my opinion, he's one of the best players in UNT history regardless of position. -
The days are long, but the years are past. Congrats and enjoy because it does fly. And I'll be the first to comment on the sweet UNT gear he's wearing. A good looking kid in his own right, but that just takes him up a few notches.

Agreed. During the Galbreath, Cobbs, Thomas, Dunbar stretch we had legitimate big-time talent at RB. I sure the Dickey "system" had something to do with it, but these guys were flat out good regardless. Dunbar maybe more so than the others based on the bad teams he played for during his time at UNT in addition to playing in the "Dodge-ball" offense. I'll go with Dunbar, Cobbs, Galbreath, Thomas*, and Hayes. *Freshman year Jamario is the best RB in UNT history. Period.

Former Texas Tech football coach Spike Dykes Passes Away
NT93 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I heard him tell the story of hitchhiking as a teenager one hot summers day in West Texas. A pick-up stopped to pick he and his friend up and when they got in the cab of the truck, they couldn't figure out what the cold air was that was blowing from the dashboard. It was his first time to ride in a vehicle with air conditioning. Admittedly, my version of the story is not quite as good as his. -
I like the UA uniforms. The helmets? Not so much. I'm also a fan of the throwback uniform that UNTLifer posted.

When and how did I become one of the old timers??? haha I'm going to go ahead and envision the worst: Something along the lines of Baylor and Oregon. Now, get off my lawn!!!

Maybe he's planning to pull a Dennis Parker????

Is it time to drop "North Texas" and become UNT?
NT93 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If we go by UNT we can't do the (students section) "NORTH", (alumni section) "TEXAS" cheer. Take that as you choose. -
Greatest High School Running Back You Ever Saw Play?
NT93 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. The best I ever saw might not make a Top 50 or even Top 100 list of Greatest HS Running Back ever, but they are the best I ever got a change to see. -
Greatest High School Running Back You Ever Saw Play?
NT93 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Bam Morris may have been the best I ever witnessed in person, but I was chasing him around the field as he ran for 300+ yards Best I ever saw as a spectator was probably Donta Hickson from McKinney. John Chiles was pretty special at Mansfield Summit. He threw the ball, ran the ball, and caught the ball. -
NFL draft??? Are my talent evaluation skills really that bad?

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the opening weekend of the tournament is my favorite. I'd much rather watch UTA, Monmouth, or Illinois St. than a spare P-6 team.

Stud RB in high school. Welcome to North Texas!

Yes. I don't remember any details, but it is true to the best of my knowledge.

All-time best UNT FB player you ever witnessed
NT93 replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Football
I wish the caveat had been made to list the year you began watching NT football. I'd love to know, for example, if you didn't pick Joe Green because you didn't see him play, or because you just think their are others who were better than him. That being said, this is a great thread and I've been reminded of some great players that I've seen who I'd honestly kind of forgotten about. I've been somewhat familiar with NT football since the late 80's, but I wouldn't say I was a real fan until the mid-late 90's. Freshman Jamario is the best I've ever seen. It was akin to having a Herschel Walker/Bo Jackson/Eric Dickerson type college running back on your team. As far as a career of being a bada$$, give me Booger. -
Awesome video. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but I find myself hoping they win just for Lance Dunbar and Cole Beasley.

Gil Lebreton: "Sue The Dr. Peppers Out Of Them"
NT93 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll show my age here, but I kind of miss the days of several bowl games having an impact on the National Championship. New Year's Day was awesome. Maybe there could be a combo of the old bowls and the new playoff. Select the 4 playoff teams AFTER the bowl games. Talk about several bowls games having importance. I'm only half-serious, but it's somewhat intriguing. -
I don't really see Iowa or Missouri as body bag games. They are actually the kind of P5 schools we should be playing...home and home.

I was there last time with my brother and our two sons, but none of us could make it this year because of work. I'm sure there are many like us who would have loved to have been there, but it was just not possible.

Bowl Games vs Playoffs -> Why Can't We all be Greedy Friends?
NT93 replied to Mike Jackson's topic in Mean Green Football
The first playoff rankings don't come out until October, so there are no preseason rankings as far as that goes. I agree that if Houston may have had gotten in had they stayed undefeated, but it had more to do with their schedule (as compared to a Western Michigan) than it did to preseason rankings. That being said, no G5 has a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. If you're being honest though, Auburn is undefeated if they play W.Mich. schedule and W. Mich. probably isn't 8-4 if they play Auburn's schedule. I agree with you that it stinks and that no other major North American sport operates this way.- 8 replies

I don't know, man. Most of the offenses I see throw of bunch of short, quick passes, at a very up-tempo pace. I don't see a lot of "everybody go long." I also don't agree with the "defense be damned" assessment. I just think the spread offenses have made it almost impossible to judge defenses by the normal standards. If the other team is running 100 plays a game, you are going to give up more yards and points than would normally be considered good. Conversely, if your team is running an up-tempo offense, you aren't going to get much of a break before you are out on the field again. These offenses really put the pressure on defense in today's game. Having said all that, I do think that these offenses (and terrible uniforms) are ruining the great college (and high school) game that I love. Reading that back to myself makes me realize what an old geezer I am...except that I'm not really that old. LOL. I saw that Charlie Strong is reportedly in the running for the Temple job. I know that Strong had his struggles at UT, but I think Temple may actually upgrade at the head coaching position if they get him.

You sir...are correct. Thanks for the info. I honestly thought all of those Eagles, Ducks, etc. were the same with different colors. I'm sure there are slight variations among many of them.
