Exactly. Sometimes games just go south, especially when the QB play is bad as was the case for both Indiana and SMU (though the D-lines of ND and Penn St. had something to do with their bad play).

Truth. I’m a fan of the underdog in March Madness and I feel the same about the CFP. The upsets are the special moments of the tournament.

They were a bad pass/dropped pass from going up 7-0. I think that would have changed the game considerably. I’m not going to defend SMU because I agree that they had a very favorable ACC schedule, but they didn’t play well today and I think their inexperience on the big stage was a factor. That shouldn’t prevent them (or any other team) from getting the opportunity. If the seedings were done correctly, Clemson would have likely been playing Arizona St. and SMU would likely have been playing Boise St. which probably would have been more competitive games. I don’t think Boise or ASU have quite the home field advantage that Penn St and Texas do…especially Penn St in late December. I can’t believe how many fans of a G5 team seem to want a playoff consisting of the SEC vs the B1G. I love what Sean McDonough said last night: We need to stop assuming the SEC and B1G are the best conferences. Not a direct quote, but that’s the gist.

My post was sarcasm. Not only would they have to install a new system, but as I said, they would have get to know the players as well. It’s ridiculous to think it should be done or even could be done.

Exactly. Once the top 40 (or whatever the number is) breaks away, then you have some name schools with large followings that could make a “G5” playoff successful. There will be some Texas Tech, Kansas St., Baylor type schools that get left behind and become our equals. That’s when we break away, but not before then.

My previous post was off topic, but I’m not sure about a guy who left a team that ended up in the playoff. Winning doesn’t seem to be much of a priority.

Not sure if you’re serious or tongue in cheek, but I still maintain that it’s the schools that drive the machine. College football fans are, to a great extent, alumni of the schools they support. Doesn’t matter who the players are, I’m supporting UNT. I strongly believe it’s the same for most other schools. You could run out Denton Ryan* in UNT uniforms vs TxSt at the bowl game and I’ll be cheering for (theoretically) the team in green. *no jokes about how it would be a closer game if this were true.

We don't sit out. This is a blessing to play this wonderful game. "Our kids are going to play in our bowl game because that's what we signed up to do. We're going to finish. The portal giveth and portal takes away, but it sucks regardless. That being said, I wouldn’t mind the portal if there were limits to how many times you can transfer.

Look at his stats in 2021 and 2022 in what should have been his junior and senior seasons assuming a redshirt season at Texas. Also, Utah was 20-8 with 2 Rose Bowl appearances in those two seasons.

Friends think I’m an idiot for tuning in to (for example) UNT vs Memphis when I could be watching UT vs Georgia.

I don’t think we’ll ever see another deserving player. They may lower the standards to get in just to fill a class, but I don’t think there will be anyone that we, as fans, agree should be in. I think this is pretty much true for all college and professional sports. There will be exceptions, but generally I don’t think most players will stick around long enough to be considered HOF worthy.

I agree. Travis Hunter is a special athlete, but is he one of the top WR’s or CB’s in college football? That’s an honest question because I haven’t seen him play much at all. I feel like he’s maybe a very good CB and an above average WR, but not one of the best in the country at either…that a good assessment?

I’ll probably get downvoted, but that’s the way it should be in my opinion…for both players and coaches. Finish out the season that you signed on for.

In theory I agree, but in reality, I’ll probably find myself watching one of these lower level bowls and it will end up being a great game.

I feel like I watch a lot of college football and I’ve never noticed that we play our backups any differently than most schools. Any backups I see are handing off for the most part, but I honestly don’t feel like I even see that very often.
