MGB Thursday notes: QB depth chart, Wisconsin thoughts
GreenTexan13 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If we are going to have McNulty start, the Smith needs to be 2nd string. (Wish it was Smith as #1) Greer already crapped the bed last year, I have nothing else to say about him. -
What do you expect us to do? grab pitch forks and torches, and run RV out when we storm UNT? Some of us on here have reached out to the president or made it known of our frustrations. The fact of the matter is, RV is going to have to just leave on his own. He has no pressure to change, and the people he has to please are satisfied with his work. One of us honestly should apply for a coaching position, the next time one comes up in athletics. With all the failed hires RV has made, there wouldn't be much of a difference if we had a resume,
-
Yeah.,,, That is not the first situation I have heard rumors of UNT turning down a desirable game. I would love to see Boise State come play at NT, not sure RV would...
-
I would really like UNT to play U. New Mexico or NM State. Because I would want to make that trip, and they would be good games. If we could somehow play Kansas, I would love that!
-
So we need a paycheck game every year at their stadium? I don't think this really answers the problem honestly.
-
How do you expect us to fill a stadium full of fans from one game that happened in 2011? It's Rick's job to fill Apogee with fans, because its his job, period. The product we have seen from him is beyond poor. You can't blame the team only in this situation. Yeah, us having losing season's is probably one of the biggest attendance killers in CFB. But the lack of trying from RV is just comical at this point. Plus, you would think... That us beating a P5 team in Denton in 2011 would be the perfect example as to why we need to bring a team like Iowa here. We aren't going to fill Apogee off paycheck games, 5 home game seasons, FCS squash games, whoring ourselves to the P5 wolves. buying ourselves out helps us keep the money in check, but we are just putting a band-aid over a problem, that could have been solved, if we had a AD that would do his dang job with a passion and determination.

This here ^ is what I am saying. And totally agree with. The ol' "we can't ever do this because UNT has never done it". We'll just take what we get, because that is what we are used to. We are never going to get a shot at getting our name known with the sorry work of RV , And the fact that we are ransacking the FCS league to get wins is ridiculous. I forgot to mention that not bringing Iowa to Denton, is another FU from RV. Thanks @Ben Gooding, I'll just add that one to the RV list.
-
And that is exactly why we are here talking about the lack of product the AD is bringing. Not one AD has been able to achieve that. I know it is not impossible to do a lot of the stuff we ask of RV, I just think its the easy way out. I should add, that I'm not expecting us to get big p5 names in here every year. Just give us that competitive G5's and lower P5's. Heck, I was all for TX State to come to our stadium. They aren't a big name, but I can see a heck of a better advantage of playing them in Apogee over Portland State....
-
I completely agree with you on RV having to leave. There is two things I can think off the top of my head right now that is hurting our attendance. Obviously losing and more losing is just hurting us with gaining any respect from the City of Denton, State of Texas, or the nation. But these pip squeak games with FCS teams is just killing us. A casual fan doesn't want to go to Apogee and watch us steam roll a Nicholls state or Portland State. RV is a real sellout, when it comes to giving the fans what they want. He just wants to get us by through body bag games, and he'll then schedule some no name opponent from a cupcake FCS bottom of the barrel, You can't tell me that this guy has the mean green spirit, when we get a 5 home game schedule, no name opponents at home, constant away bodybag games. If he actually did his job correctly, there would be no, "Well I can't do this or that, because...". Instead he would find a way to bring us a quality opponent to come into Apogee an play us. He would find us a way to play 6 home games, and if he can't accomplish that.... Leave. Its almost pure ignorance to me....
-
I looked it up and he went to Southern Miss. And he has a son that went to North Texas named Justin. It just looks like it is just a job and no spirit to this guy sometimes. The reason I asked the question is the fact that any person on this board would fight with determination to have a home and home with a P5 if they were in RV's shoes. Then we play two paycheck games in 2015 and a bye week in week one. A broken promise of Apogee bringing in a known and sought after opponent, and we get to play FCS murder spree games at home. Meanwhile, our conference mate's UTSA are bringing Arizona and OK State to their borrowed stadium.... I get that no one can be perfect and give us everything we want, but it looks almost as if RV is actually trying to mess with us.

Carlos Harris Making Plays in Practice
GreenTexan13 replied to Withers940's topic in Mean Green Football
I fell for it too, I figured he was a McNulty supporter. But scratch that. -
This might be a weird question, but I'm using the answer in regards to this topic.. But is RV a UNT alumni? or has family that went here?

did the 2014 season scare him away that bad?
-
Kind of reminds of the weird way Tim Tebow would be at stance. Except comparing the two guys would be apples to oranges. LoL

My hope for us on Oct 15th Thursday night is 4-1
GreenTexan13 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
McNulty's arm looks like a frog leg. there is absolutely no muscle with that kid. -
Greer did have a nice throw though. Not a caliber QB. I think you're right about Means being a last QB. I think it is pretty clear that McNulty and Smith are the 1st and 2nd stringers.
-
Seeing Smith in every video, is giving me that confidence he is nipping at McNulty's heels right now. Smith doesn't even take that much room to wind up and throw. It is almost a straight hike and then power throw on a one step motion almost.

GreenTexan13 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We have a better chance at going 4-1 with Smith. We also pose a better chance against Iowa with Smith. I can't see a 4-1 scenario with McNulty at center.... -
Y'all remember the last time these Harvard rejects came to Denton?

Former Texas Tech OL transfers to UNT
GreenTexan13 replied to BeyondTheGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I can tell you as an Argyle High graduate, that this might be a simple overlooked benefactor. That school, as well as Liberty Christian builds their way of things off athletics. I can't tell you how many half days and days off the school we were given to leave school early to go travel for the Friday night games. (I realize there might be other HS's that are like this.) But Argyle is 10 minutes away from UNT. Recruiting kids and transfers from that area, would greatly benefit UNT's fanbase. A lot of those kids might be recruited to the P5 programs, but given the chance we have with this Texas Tech transfer, I can see the benefit of this.- 25 replies

Seriously, The only thing I can see to help relieve the AM situation, is the OL/receivers/running backs making AM look good. The replay on Periscope shows a few fans showing displeasure with the QB situation too. I just don't see McNulty being a good answer this season. The most frustrating part is that we have to see Mac post a tweet of McNulty or hear him claim McNulty as our bus driver for months now. Its almost gotten to a point that I hope people stop asking him who the starting QB is, because I want to just end up completely surprised to see Smith or expectantly disappointed when we see McNulty lead our offense September 12th.... I hate the poisoning feeling of, "McNulty is our starting QB for the 2015 season". .....And then there is the Greer situation, which I can't even discuss my frustrations if he makes his way back.
