cool your jets! Yes our defense is seriously hurting. But we just got beat by a team that slayed an SEC team earlier this year, a QB that is definitely heading for the NFL, and a team with 5 high rated WR's. I'm not excusing the poor performance, but this game was a hell of a lot different then PSU's. Our offensive effort definitely deserves a little more respect after Mac's departure.

Will we be able to win at least one game?
GreenTexan13 replied to bleedgreen4ever's topic in Mean Green Football
We will get at least one. Preferably UTSA, but i see us having the best shot against UTEP. -
I agree, he is definitely making beginner mistakes. But, there is a better chance that we would have done better against SMU and Rice. I think the Portland state score would have been way different because he would have had 4 games under his belt. We are a victim of Mac's stubbornness. But I think we won't go 0-12 if Smith plays out the rest of the season. He will need the experience of Marshal next, to prepare himself for the U. Texas step children.
-
What are your opinions? This is his first official game. And I know without a doubt, that he needs to play the rest of the season. He's the best on our QB roster right now. I only wish he would have started 2 games ago though... I think our defense is causing us the most damage tonight.

we set a record last week, why not another one this week?

Chip Kelley comment about North Texas. Can't help but laugh.

Chip Kelly = RV wanted to be fired by their fan bases, has been wearing green for more then a decade, and both can say they know how to kill the spirit of an eagle fan.... -
DaMarcus Smith gets the nod
GreenTexan13 replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
I see a lot of you all posting about the growing pains and newbie mistakes being made by D. Smith if he is the one selected. What sucks about this is the fact that D. Smith probably could of worked those growing pains out the first 5 games. But Mac threw him to the wolves, he hasn't played a whole game at UNT, and this is basically week 1 of the season for him. -
I wish our win record would improve as much as our helmet look!

http://www.underdogdynasty.com/2015/10/14/9523491/why-unt-is-a-desirable-destination-for-college-football "With McCarney out, North Texas will be looking to find someone that can turn around a program struggling to get back to where it was in 2013. Turning around a program that has accumulated a 4-13 record over the past season and a half does not sound like an easy task. However, the job may be far more lucrative than meets the eye. North Texas has what it needs to make a pretty good sales pitch for the coach that they need if they focus around these main arguments". (if this has been posted already, I apologize.)

Former WKU QB DaMarcus Smith could start for North Texas
GreenTexan13 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I know I am getting a little green kool aid on what I'm about to say... But imagine Demarcus starting and playing tonight. Then he beats his old team and the guy who took his job for the first win of the season. I know.... I'll go back to my depression cave and curse at RV's ridiculous ways. -
When you lose 66-7 to a FCS team, every fan and student has the right to be disgusted with the team. and if what I hear is true, about the team giving up last Saturday. Posting that nonsense on Twitter is almost as hypocritical as our athletic decision making. He needs to turn off his phone and start focusing on tomorrow. His team and him have 7 more games to actually silence the loud UNT weak minded students the right way...

In hindsight, Mac's "Mean Green Football"
GreenTexan13 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
One thing Mac did, that frustrated me was wimp out on 4th and goal plays. We would be down 14 points and Mac would just take the 3 pointer. (He did it during the SMU game.) I totally agree with you, and this day and age, a football team will gain a lot of respect rolling the dice and will make themselves successful doing what you just said. -
This is probably the most perfect example of a life as a mean green fan. We all show up to cheer for our team doing a piss poor job (which I still blame the coaches). Our AD is an idiot, and a lot of us fan's will probably never make as close to the amount of money this guy does, and we could tell him how to correctly fire someone.... And select a better quality of a candidate to coach. And to top it all off, we are still paying for this mess of a situation... Giving our hard earned dollars to go watch all of this, with hope of change. And we can't even get the customer service we payed for. You would think that they would actually do their job and make everyone feel welcome (so we can at least enjoy something inside the stadium). I've seen people post about how they had to install their own chair backs to the bench, and that kind of crap is absolutely ridiculous. If I were you all, I would be writing in your letters about firing RV. in regards to the customer service too.... After all, the AD should be held responsible for anything that goes inside that stadium,,,,

We know they can be some what better. The SMU game definitely showed that they are a better secondary then what we have seen recently. We just need a better rhythm with our offense and defense. Our offense needs to start putting more points on the board to help motivate the defense.

Mac lost his players after the coaching staff struggled to do their jobs. As a fan I was and still am forever thankful for what Mac did for us in 2013. Mac was to stubborn to change his ways, he seemed to always ignore the total obvious the past couple years. And he put the nail in the coffin when he said that it was to hard recruit at North Texas. I am truly disappointed that RV has created this mess, and then created the most messy clean up in UNT athletic history. I think we stand a better chance with Canales taking the reigns for the remainder of the year. I think he is under the spot light now, and if this gy knew what was best, he would definitely put in one freaking QB, leave him in there, and for all that is holy! start taking the steps to get us out of this QB curse we have been in for almost 2 years. D. Smith is the only guy I see that he has options with. Idc about his Southern Miss show, start him a freaking game and see how he does. It is absolutely ridiculous to throw him in there after McNulty.
-
Do y'all really think we have a chance of snagging a Baylor or TCU candidate? I just don't see it. I voted for Campbell, look what the guy has done to a quiet program of Toledo. They are undefeated and have a posted win over a SEC team this year. I think a Texas program and a much bigger salary would entice him to come coach for UNT. We are in dire need of a guy who can make UNT a giant killer program like Boise or NIU. Our blowout loss to a FCS school has completely thrown us into the stone ages.

I need to take deeper breaths or start drinking....

UH also wins -
Everyone is looking at us know. Firing our coach certainly got their attention. If we don't fire RV, I can see us getting laughed at big time. They are all expecting us to give him the boot.
-
Smith will be given a fair chance. We might see McNulty play for the 1st qrtr this Thursday. McNulty will then skunk his starting spot to the next man up. That being said, Smith needs to shine like the sun the next few days. What Mac did to him a week ago was pretty screwed up. Throwing him to the wolves like that. I am willing to bet Smith taking the job with Canales evaluating.

Who Should Be The Next Head Coach @UNT
GreenTexan13 replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
aww man... too soon... -
I think money was put on the back burner when we got slaughtered by a team we just paid (what, 400k?) to come get pummeled by us. That loss was the most inexcusable and sorriest game I have ever witnessed. UNT is probably going to have that loss in the record books as the worst FBS to FCS loss for the rest of time, never to be broken. A lot of people are thanking Mac, and he did create a remarkable thing in 2013. But he did it with someone else's recruits. in essence, if this embarrassment didn't happen today. I bet you Mac would have a job for (at least) the rest of the season. As sorry as this loss was, I can see the bright side to the firing of Mac. Also: Mark my words, if we don't get RV out of here... We might as well call coach Mac back up and tell him he's rehired. #FireRickVillarreal
-
This is RV trying to save himself too. At least we did something though. Mac was getting to cocky, and he was acting like he couldn't get fired.
-
Call the president's office, mail letters, hit Smatresk up on Twiiter. Everyone voice your opinions. The best and only chance we have left is to use our population numbers to show our disgust.
-
RV needs to be fired Monday. If Mac gets fired first, guess who hires the next coach.... hint: hes been here for 15 years.
-
Coach Mac has no right being here after today. If he is not fired after this year, I'm not watching any games in 2016. I don't care if we don't have the money to buy out his contract. That is just another excuse at this point. He's gone or we are gone. RV should be fired today... He just payed a team several hundred thousand dollars to come whip our butts on our homecoming. It is not a good day to be a Mean Green fan...
