"IT's OFFICIAL": We continue to UNDERACHIEVE
KingDL1 replied to Black Scholes's topic in Mean Green Football
I think that is a general statement, several on this board complained over the last four years about the discipline on and off the field. I agree about these stupid penalties. We had 15 penalties for 146 yards with a little math that is one penalty every four minutes, if that is not bad enough the 3rd down conversions really jump out at me. 7% (1 of 14) third down conversions is that not crazy? Now since FIU beat themselves does that not count as their first D1a win??? -
Thats a fair estimate if we have perfect weather, if it is cold and wet much much worst. But that 1:00 pm game the Saturday after Thanksgiving even with good weather maybe 9,000, if we stink it up and the weather is bad look for 3-5k max.

Got nothing, what the hell was it????

Great Post you are on the money!!! Bobby Ray is the man pulling the strings!

The DD faithful have blinders on, and do not consider what happens if we have two losing seasons. Plus they will not look at the last several seasons and realize DD was at best an average coach in a favorable situation. Everything gets listed, like continued lack of discipline my biggest problem, poor adjustments, etc. There are many fans that have been on the fence waiting for DD to stop complaining and start being more competitive in OCC and now after four SBC Championships we have been sliding down hill the last two years. If it were not for Jamaro we would have had a losing season last year. And now the DD faithful are making up excuses this year and saying next year we lose more players. How long is a player eligible to play? My God people! This year looks like we are really going down the crapper, and these fans that were on the fence are now convinced that it is time for DD to change his philosophy or leave. We witnessed the worst home beating in school history this year to Tulsa that now has a 3-3 record, and K-State set records against us. This is not the right direction, this is a big deal. The bigger problem is our Football program overall, what can it take? What can UNT afford? Can we go down the tubes and still have the attendance we need for D1a? How does this change our chances for big donations? Folks the sky may be starting to fall and if we wait too long we won't be able to turn it around. I am not a big fan of DD nor do I hate him but I think his time here is done, I would rather get a new coach before we have to rebuild attendance and our recruiting strength gets completely killed. I don't want to read in the paper that UNT has requested an attendance wavier from the NCAA to get an extra year in D1a football. The sooner we start looking the higher quality coach we will find, while he still has something to work with. For the DD faithful would it take until UNT returns to D1aa for you to start thinking about getting a new head coach.

Stars have won 4 of the 5 games they have played, I have made 2 of the home games I think the game is much faster and smoother. Thumbs up all around!!! Great NHL Action, just plain kicka$$!!!!!

If I understand it right BOR is appointed by the Governor, we can mass email his office and the BOR directly if the situation comes to a head. I think more alumni than ever have started to pay attention to the football program and could be tapped to help make changes in the BOR. There is no doubt in my mind that RV can take us a long ways in building up our athletic programs, and he deserves the alumni support.

I think there are better people much more in the know with details and names on this board then me I was only enlightened on Tuesday night by some long time fans. But it boils down to there are people on the board of regents that are hand cuffing RV and probably Dr. Pohl. They are not giving these men in many cases the freedom to do their job instead they are forcing their will on them. Regardless of what should be done and what the alumni want. So I believe there is much speculation that this causing a lot of bad blood and frustration for Dr. Pohl and for RV. That RV will probably get frustrated and move on long before we get rid of DD. Plus if I understand it correctly DD and RV have quite a rift going between them. To top it off DD now does not answer to RV, but vacations with the chairman of the board if I got that straight. I think "ttunt" was referring to the the same when he suggested this is how we are losing Dr. Pohl. Like I said other than some rumors I heard floating around it was new to me Tuesday night.

I don't think most people know or understand what is happening behind the scenes. Or how DD got his contract. What is going on with the BOR and how bad of shape we could be in if this crap goes unchecked I think its been a long time over due for the alumni to unite and I think RV is a good leader with the right ideas to get united around.

No, UNTLifer, Did I miss something??

For all those lost on the OCC games which was not my point, but want to be arguing to no end that they think all our OOC games have been power houses that we should get beaten and don't expect more. Fine. What I see in FFR numbers is extreme mediocrity in all our glory in the last 4 years we have only beaten 2 teams that finished the season with winning records. This is not a lot to boast about. We have to worry about the future of this program, we have to meet attendance requirements now to stay in 1A. If you all will take a second and play devils advocate and realize that we don't really have much to praise DD about and you may see a big slip coming that our current fan base can't support. If DD goes down in flames the next 2 years we will likely be back in 1AA. Unless the NCAA has changed Title nine lately.

Great post!! I am tired of the excuses, I wish our coaching took this no BS approach that would at least take care of discipline.

Those are great questions, I don't have all the answers but I would think there are those that could, I bet that RV could come up with a plan. The saying "strike while the iron is hot" I don't believe we can wait until DD has a complete meltdown, I don't believe our attendance would recover. There are always coaches out there, I alway thought a lot of Gary DeLoach. But #3 may be a really good question for Hayden Fry.

It constantly amazes me how little people pay attention, above are listed the real numbers of the real games of the Glory of DD not so hot. People look into it yourself get off the DD Kool-Aid® and realize this is not the rebuilding year many are making of it. Put DDs head on the line now period.

Coach Dickey would not motivate a pile
KingDL1 replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I like how you think, and I believe you are absolutely correct and any one still on the Dickey train is fooling themselves. But for them sure its OK it will be all right DD is a great leader can't you tell from the great discipline and play calling. DD's head should be on the line now! Not once we have lost all momentum that RV has worked so hard to promote. -
Whats with all the beating up the Yankees, I been a yankee fan since I was 3 the year was 1969, before there even was a Rangers but keep in mind the yanks sucked from 1982-1995 and Yankee fans expected much more. When ever it comes down to the Yankees vs the Rangers I am a Rangers fan first although it never a really bad game to see all the players you support in one park.

I have always believed these were both very much coaching issues. 1) Practice and game preparation -coaches job-to plan for and prepare for your offensive strengths and weaknesses. 2) Instill discipline -coaches job- 1st take a players off the field and chew their a$$es out make them sit by themselves on the bench when they commit unsportsman penalties. 2nd Make sure that your players know through discipline that stupid penalties will not be tolerated.

What's Sicker Than a 4th & Inches With A
KingDL1 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I have faith the Alumni are not all wearing blinders and they have much higher expectations of our football team right now (look at the number of season tickets), and it looks like Dickey will continue to unravel. That combined with what I learned tonight, things like that won't be tolerated if it becomes common knowledge. -
Your not alone on that call I guarantee you! I almost feel like calling in sick and hiding out tomorrow.

Don't worry Dickey will be gone before then, the alumni as a whole will see the light before long. -
That drives me crazy, it seems like we make more noise when our offense is on the field and about to snap the ball. Maybe it is me but it also seems like the cheerleaders have run chants while the offense is snapping the ball, (I hope I am wrong) Did anyone notice the bangers they handed out tonight had instructions on them to only use when the defense was on the field. Hard to believe football fans need to be told this.
