Don't Mess With Texas
KingDL1 replied to KingDL1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I reread the line it was worse then I meant, I was attempting some tongue and cheek humor. I am glad the bathroom is fixed. What I am saying is the news paper is full of articles how someone walked in/woke up while/was up stairs while burglars were in a house and things went bad. Innocent people were severely injured or killed. Please don't assume what was on these criminals minds was anything but bad, Mr. Horn may have saved someone's life. The whole tape is eight minutes long and it probably took Mr.Horn a minute or two to realize what was happening and call 911. Which I guarantee you seemed like an eternity to Mr. Horn. But I have been on the phone in a similar situation you get very wired, and upset. Mr Horn reacted differently then some but I know the feeling that something has to be done and if I don't do it no-one will, he did it. He waited until they were leaving and felt they were getting away. Don't take his chatter wrong he was wound up and talking himself into doing something. Serves the criminals right, would you have a different opinion if they while in the house these burglars had killed his neighbor? No one forced these crooks to break in to the house, but at that point they gave up all rights. -
Isn't that the truth, cheerleaders as well!

Wow, not a real comparison. Maybe try again. You made your determination after you know the facts, but being in Mr. Horn position you tend to get very wired. All he knew was two grown men were breaking into his neighbors house. By the way burglars surprised have hurt and killed plenty of people. But glad to hear you got the Glory Hole closed, still the public bathroom is not what most people would call their home. -
Not much if any, but the teams we schedule and the win record will make the real impact. If we have 40.000 seats and schedule ATM or Tech you may see a sell out.

Why would you post this now?

Not that the Enron folk did not need to be shot, but you need to realize these were grown men bold enough to break in to a house in the middle of the afternoon in broad daylight. That is a pretty violent act to start with, what do you think their plan was if they accidentally surprised someone in the house? Run like school girls? Fact is if they were willing in to go to a neighborhood and break in to a house in under these conditions they likely would have hurt someone to get away. You would be very naive to give the adult criminal the benefit of the doubt. -
I picked a girl one night in South Padre, she did things to me...well....lets say are not humanly possible. Although I may have done most of the probing. She said she was from Norman, but I know the truth, now I love aliens. I have driven though Roswell, New Mexico in the late of the night several times coming and going on ski trips Roswell has a very clear bright starry sky, who knows what is looking down on us.

Are you kidding me get real, don't try to trivialize violent crime to white collar crime. If you don't know the difference you really need help. -

You really have no clue what it is to watch a crime like this go down and knowing they are about to get away. I have seen many get away, and witnessed a few. My parents house was broken in when I was in High school, I can not tell you how bad my home felt violated, my mom was freaked out for years and she looked around at night like they might come back. Mr. Horn stood up and made sure it did not happen in his neighborhood. My neighborhood is part of my home and those criminals were bold enough to violate the security of that neighborhood in broad daylight, to me thats the same as doing it to my house. If you listen to the full 8 minutes you would know more of what Mr Horn went through. If they had guns he still would have got them, I am sure he surprised them. He is more then welcome in my neighborhood. A man that knows how to handle a shotgun definitely has the edge, in the picture he appears to be a hunter. I am sure he was watching his own ass as well, don't underestimate old hunters. I only wish there were more people like Mr. Horn, you would really see the crime rate drop. -

Shot in the back that means something to you, grow up this is not a duel in the old west he was protecting his neighborhood and private property. Well enjoy protecting the criminal, but Mr. Horn is a hero in my and many other peoples books. I stopped a guy breaking in to my car once right in my front yard I held a shotgun on him. He went to jail, but he stopped if not he would have been pushing daisies now. There is a lot of adrenaline, nerves that go on in that situation, and seeing these guys about to get away would really crank a guy up. Also these burglars already had a criminal record and the majority of repeat criminals graduate to more and more violent crimes. Mr. Horn may have saved an innocent person's life down the road. -

You can protect the criminal if you want, I say Mr. Horn is a hero! They broke the law big time and I know plenty of people that would do the same thing. I damn sure would. He had no idea if they had guns on them or not. They were breaking into someone's house and stealing their property, they took the risk and paid for it. Don't break into someone's home unless you are ready to die! IT IS SIMPLE. And if you are ever in a situation that you feel you have to shoot, make damn sure you you shoot to kill. That in no way was murder. And I will bet that in the Great State of Texas he will be cleared by the Grand Jury like he should be. Buy the way he stayed on the phone for over 8 minutes (which must have seemed like an eternity) until they started to leave. If he was murder happy he would have gone and shot them then called 911. -
Growth potential large public school in a major market, a recruiting presence in this region, need for more teams in conferences. Most of the conferences that don't have a championship game, rumor has it plan to expand to 12 teams so they can put a conference championship in place. There will likely be some major shifts in the next couple of years.
-
What if we are about to build a stadium as part of a conference change negotiation?

If my neighbor shot and killed someone robbing my house I would be thrilled. DON"T BREAK INTO HOUSES AND COMMIT ROBBERY!!!!! More power to Mr. Horn. -
Nobody builds on the past they build on projections, 40 - 45,000 is the bare minimum we should build. Don't be a fooled by the time the stadium is completed UNT will have an attendance nearing 40.000 students. And 45 - 50,000 students by 2015, so a 30 - 35 thousand seat stadium is retarded. If they are going to develop school spirit and school pride the students alone can fill the stadium. If we start really winning you better believe the alumni will show up in force. So 40,000 - 45,000 seats is a great place to start. if 30,000 is the start just keep Fouts. Stadiums don't make winners.

I stand and scream, Alumni side always rules its like at 4 to 1 ratio to the student side. Talk about passion the student side only wished it had that level of passion. If you did not have the band and the visitors over there it would be empty.

Fouts Field Remodeled Into A Two-tier In Ground Stadium
KingDL1 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
You have to be right, that concrete monster we call Fouts would have sunk long ago if the water table was high enough to cause concern. But the stadium's shallow grade would suck to watch games no mater what they did short of imploding it and starting over. -
Coach Archie, for me and I am speaking for me, I think in the first place it was DD's attitude or way he chose to slant things. Second I think a head-coach should promote the school not constantly tear it down in the press and radio. Sure the facilities sucked but does that speech that never changed do anyone any good? Even though RV & UNT had made some nice changes? That is only one aspect of it what was going on. The us against the fans stuff, the black uniform stunt, other stuff I wrote above and more.
-
I don't think anyone on this topic called DD a thief, but it did happen on his watch. Also several other serous discipline problems. I can't speak for everyone but I felt his constant complaining about the fans and the facilities had me beyond ticked off. The toughest/worst situation in football quotes. The stealth recruiting and the lack of total offense, the list goes on. DD is not missed on my part

Click to enlarge For those with short memories, here is some expansion fun. In this design Fouts would sit around 43,000.
