  1. A post worth noting RE: Pay for NIT games. https://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=15634702
  2. I get being optimistic about these things, but this goes a bit far. You make it sound like doing well in a second-tier tournament makes us a legitimate ti contender next year. Sorry, but ask the main superpowers how hard it is to win the NCAA championship even 1 time. You see Duke, UNC, Nova, Cuse, Kansas, Kentucky, etc. Winning back-to-back all the time? Even they can't do it despite their recruiting classes. Sports are tough. Sometimes the best players never get close to a championship (see Mike Trout) because injuries happen, or they have an off night shooting and get knocked out. There's something like 330 basketball programs--at best for us, around 150 that have shots to make the tourney. Every single one is gunning for 1 championship. All that said, we do not have any legitimate shot at the national title anytime soon. Elite 8 and Final Four, maybe. But a championship would take decades.
  3. Horrible seeding but could work in our favor. Our side of the bracket looks beatable
  4. The regular season winner of the conferences get an auto bid to the NIT if they fail to win their conference tournament. Since FAU won the regular season title, they would've gotten an auto bid. Same as last year--UNT won the regular season title but lost to La Tech in the CUSA tournament. Ergo, auto bid to NIT.
  5. In fairness, he had just been knocked out of the ACC tourney. If he had his way, it would've been after at least losing in the ACC Championship, or in the dance.
  6. I actually think this was his plan all along. If it wasn't the administration wouldn't have had his replacement in place so immediately. He was the kind of guy who never wanted the fanfare for himself, so something like a year-long retirement tour of a season wasn't his kind of move. A quiet retreat into retirement is exactly what he'd have planned right after Jimmy and Buddy graduated.
  7. As the resident Syracuse fan on this forum, it's a sad end of an era. The man dedicated 57 years of his life to the university he loved so much and vaulted its profile to heights it wouldn't have achieved otherwise. Going to miss him. Alternatively, it was the right time. Maybe a year earlier would've also been okay, but his teams just haven't had "it" in the last few seasons, so it's been frustrating. Also, me thinks Mac isn't going to want to uproot his family for Syracuse and freeze his ass off.
  8. We were dogs to both FAU games
  9. $6 a pop and only General admission. Not a bad Wednesday night outing for the fam.
  10. Just bought my tickets for the family and CAN'T WAIT!
  11. For us non-ESPN+ subscribers?
  12. Whoever Notre Dame goes to will have it all, really. Big XII and PAC 12 are in a position to offer enough, but likely won't win, even over independence.
  13. Now a 4 seed in the Florida region. Would be a fun game to go to!
  14. Only a 3 position drop, which is surprising. I'll certainly take it, but it makes me wonder what a larger win would've done. Pushed us up a spot or two?
  15. Despite the recent losses, I still have UNT. UAB was a preseason darling, but they just haven't played up to expectations.
  16. It's hard to beat teams twice in one season, much less 3 times. That's how the saying always goes in college football, but adapting it here. If given the chance, I don't think we lose the 3rd time.
  17. My first take is that this is a positive change for schools, but a 50/50 for the players. The previous rules allowed players to exploit the system when they didn't get the start treatment they expected immediately. Many players transfer to be closer to their families and hometowns, and while that's all and good, others were transferring multiple times to advance themselves only. Programs and the player's own development were significantly impacted by the exploiting players and these short-sighted decisions compounded that. Kids are going to have to make a more serious decision based on the new rules when deciding to transfer, and that's not a bad thing. They'll learn that their commitments mean something more than a single year. These kids all think they'll start immediately because they were the star of their HS team and then warm the bench while they develop into a legitimate FBS player. This will partially fix that, so I approve. Not that anyone asked my opinion.
  18. Ha, I've been here long enough to know that, unfortunately. Believe me, I knew the boo birds would be out for that one. Credit to those 3 schools because they play and recruit well, obviously, and at a higher level than UNT. Truth is, though, we wouldn't beat them, plain and simple. Even with Jimbo Fisher's team in utter shambles, they still pull it out. We might keep them close, but at the end of the day, 0-3. The hope is that Morris can change all of that
  19. We'd lose to half the teams below us in the rankings. I guess I'll take it though!
  20. Only when they had Lofton
  21. My senior year, Love Shack opened up and was excellent!
  22. I was make this same point. Drew is 52 and Mac is 46. Drew isn't going anywhere save for a scandal a-la Art Briles. I'd put good money on Mac taking a major program job like WVU if offered. That said, the offer would have to be pretty decent money-wise to move to West Virginia.
  23. Just for the record, attendance is almost never the fault of the players or coaches. Coaches sometimes. But not often (looking at you Tony effing Benford) THIS MAN CAME IN WITH RECEIPTS! Also, Twitter is an informative place, folks. Go follow Mean Green accounts.
