For this year’s bowls, it’s C-USA champion’s choice
Jason Howeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
HOD is the only bowl in this list that comes in at over $1 million in payout/team. Unless CUSA trades up for another bowl (which they should considering the better teams in the league), we probably won't be seeing a payout like last year unless we win out. -
But you've thought so tirelessly about it! You should schedule a sit-down with RV and tell him your thoughts. I think he'd welcome them. And sure, if you consider scheduling as the only criterion for performance, you'd still be off. This based off the fact that we don't have many P5 schools come to Denton. C'mon man that's a bit far-reaching there. At least we schedule P5 schools.
-
Well clearly you'd do such a better job. Easy to schedule teams like you're on EA Sports NCAA behind a keyboard.
-
Well said. if I'm a P5 school, why do I go to UNT instead of P5 school TCU or AAC member SMU? Both have more on-paper reputation to bring fans/revenue/national coverage than UNT. It can't be an easy job to lure a team to Denton.
-
Whoa whoa whoa there, 90. Don't go throwing around the word "apathy" anywhere near my direction because that spaghetti won't stick. There's not an apathetic bone in my body for this school or team. I honestly can't fault RV for this kind of scheduling. The 2015 Iowa series was created in 2009 (when we were terrible), the Tennessee game was scheduled for 2011 before it was moved to 2015, and the SMU game just fell on that series. I know I'm probably beating a dead horse, but we'll get our opportunities later, and I'm sure RV is working on getting another P5 school here in the upcoming years. If not, I'll stand corrected.

If that's the worst thing he does, I'm not entirely upset. Yes I realize I'm in the minority here.

Undefeated C-USA team maybe not enough for playoff

Rice has the bitter taste in their mouths for us. Chances are Rice thinks we're rivals, too. Or maybe I'm delusional.

I'm with everyone else here wanting to see NT as a power house in a P5 conference consistently in the Top 25, but I know RV and I know UNT football. We're not even close to that. Not to mention, almost every P5 team has a money-game for a W early in the season. There's no team that gives themselves a gauntlet of a schedule. Below is a list of our upcoming guaranteed games. I hope 2015 satisfies this itch. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/conf-usa/north-texas-mean-green.php

Undefeated C-USA team maybe not enough for playoff
Jason Howeth replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
All of this talk smells an awful lot like Northwestern. MAC team who goes undefeated a few times and finally gets respect, but still not enough to make the top rankings. Have they ever made Top 5? They were the BCS busters in the last couple years just like TCU was before it joined the Big XII. Remember their good days in CUSA and M-West? All plausible things for North Texas to do, but it will take years of winning to even join the conversation. And if we beat "Texsa," I still don't think we come out undefeated. There will almost certainly be a game that we have no business losing, but find a way to do so.- 13 replies

Let's win a few more bowls before we put ourselves against perennial Top 10 teams back-to-back-to-back.

That also being said, there's this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safeway_Bowl

Sports are too PC these days. Imagine if we had a Richard Sherman on the team who flat out didn't care what people thought and told them about it. Specifically telling Rice and SMU what he thought of their game. Rice is a great opponent every year and not one to be looked over. I would love to get something going with them, but I think our tie with SMU will have a greater chance. Plus we could say that our rival being in a "better" conference gives us leverage to move up. All that being said, I loathe the name "Safeway Bowl," if you can eve call it a bowl. I understand the origins of the name, but it's just boring. Wikipedia doesn't even have word of it, and there's not trophy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_college_football_rivalry_games

Listen, I'll take a bowl win any day, especially with 40k+ at the stadium this time. I'd like to see us beat down a Big Ten team, but chances are they flip it for another bowl like they did last year. Anyway, here's hoping! -

I won't deny that there will be dog days ahead in the future, but my thought is that as long a Mac is here, he'll at least have me always believing that we're one step away from where we want to be.- 37 replies

In the 70s and 80s it was the standard, and then for a long time Greeks had a gap where they just didn't care. Now, thanks to a few of my brothers, and the opening of Apogee/tailgating on the Hill, Greek tailgates are organized with games, drinks, food, etc., all while paired up with a sorority. Funny thing is though, there are almost double the fraternities on campus as there are sororities, so a lot of dudes who don't plan early enough (or ever) get left out. Those not fortunate enough (or not competent enough) to grab one of our outstanding women's organizations before the season starts should definitely check into the TWU girls. They can't be that bad... right?
-
Chris, are there any plans to expand the pavilion? I've always thought it was on the smaller side of things, especially being dwarfed by the wing section of Apogee. Also, is it still possible to purchase a brick?

Literally everything I wanted to say has been said. Crap. Except I'll say this. I'm glad (as I'm sure we all are) that we have moved past the Dodge/Fouts/Really bad days of NT football.- 37 replies

As long as our Tiebreaker system looks NOTHING like what the Big XII had a couple years ago, we'll be just fine.

I just remember hating WKU from 2007-2012 when we left. It seemed like every year you had our number no matter what.
