Mason - Signed for 2 more years by Saskatchewan
Jason Howeth replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
This was my first thought, and then I couldn't unsee a sequined coin murse... I figured that's what it was in the first place, but still lol-ed. -

Probably your worst take on this forum. I guess we should all stop donating then? -
Imagine Tony Mitchell in today's transfer portal, NIL atmosphere...

I literally LOLed at that line because, if I recall, it was clearly after an edit when he OBVIOUSLY looked up how we did.

"Competes" is doing some really heavy lifting in that headline

I really would've thought that FAU would've dropped out, but good to see there's a little more faith in AAC teams than there would've been in CUSA. Memphis played great down the stretch with UTSA just making too many mistakes. Shots weren't dropping well for Memphis but they got the job done. F UTSA.

This is upsetting. I'm not in the DFW area, but the DMN has to know that there's so much more of a market for UNT scores and summaries than there are for OU or especially Kansas State. Give me a break. No wonder folks don't follow local news by newspaper anymore.

I doubt this isn't going to be as close as it looks at first glance. On paper Tulane has some wins with big points spreads, but almost all have been SUPER cupcake games (excepting Cal and Rice) -7.5 seems about right although the line is now -5 UNT.

First Quarter Complete - What's your Grade?
Jason Howeth replied to HoosMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Definitely in the D to C+ range. Close loses to LSU, St. John's, and Boise St. which all should've been wins, but then inexplicable losses to Fordham and Miss. State. Tough to swallow how the season has progressed so far. -
The trouble with the player loan system like in Euro soccer is it completely ignores the kids' educations. As much as the portal and NIL have shifted the college football landscape, they still get to choose where they want to attend classes. Alabama shouldn't be able to treat the kids like a bought-and-paid-for product that can be sent wherever Alabama thinks they want to send him. Also, if he transfers, does he transfer from Alabama or the school he played for last season? I'm very much for a promotion and relegation model for college football, but loaning players isn't the answer. In fairness, his job is to appeal toward 18-year olds who think they're hot shit.

8 games in: what do we now know of the Hodge era?
Jason Howeth replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I wouldn't be surprised if we have more of a learning curve than we all wanted to see. Hodge is billed as a great defensive mind, but he has to enable his offenses to get things going, and that's going to take some adjustments to his game strategies. I see us likely shooting for the 20-win season with decent conference tournament performance, but not making a postseason tourney. Next year, when Scott, Jones, and the rest of this crew are more mature and Hodge makes offseason adjustments, we'll see some good progress and compete for the conference again. In sum: too early to judge Hodge, but still very optimistic. -

Funny to watch: the records below the team names changes at the end of the clip, but not in the way it was supposed to.

LSU (11/17/2023) - Charleston Classic
Jason Howeth replied to GMG_Dallas's topic in Mean Green Basketball
And yet here we are, a 2.5 underdog. Vegas makes no sense, sometimes. Win by 10+ and we've got a good resume builder. Win by less, and it won't mean much. Lose and we're in trouble for an at-large. -
St. Johns (11/16/23) - Charleston Classic
Jason Howeth replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Buggs was my biggest gripe about yesterday too. Due respect to the kid, but as @meanJewGreen put it yesterday, he's playing with that UTSA mentality, which is hot garbage. I trust Hodge will sit him in the film room for a good while watching his plays. Then it's up to him to fix his game. -
Very interesting, thanks for putting this together! If you happen to look for more to do with this, I'd suggest another graph showing attendance versus each opponent. Since we brought 5 other schools from CUSA there might be some good crossover and over time it will show who the fans come to see. My guess is Wichita St. and anyone who is ranked. Notating a year when an opponent is ranked would also be fascinating.

Ken Pom Rankings Out - UNT #87 in nation
Jason Howeth replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Worth noting that Memphis (32) and FAU (37) are the only AAC teams ahead of North Texas with UAB (90), SMU (92) and Tulane (95) close behind. Much heavier competition in this league, for certain. -
I'm going to lose my absolute shit on this post in about 5 seconds

This tournament deserves to be on network television. ABC needs to pick up some or most of these games. Look at the teams! -

@Brett Vito and anyone else for that matter: Did I/we miss the GYROTR contest? Is it only in the subscriber articles that I can't see on the website? In any case if we'd like this to be an unofficial thread for the GYROTR, have at it, y'all. I'll kick it off by submitting my prediction of 7-6 with a TOUGH stretch between October 14-November 18. Here's the breakdown: Cal @ UNT L UNT @ FIU W UNT @ LaTech W ABIL @ UNT W UNT @ Navy L Temple @ UNT W UNT @ Tulane L MEMP @ UNT L UTSA @ UNT L UNT @ SMU L UNT @ Tulsa W UAB @ UNT W BOWL GAME: ??? W -
It is, but until we put together some great winning seasons, I'll take the acknowledgements as they come

This feels like the biggest home game ever
Jason Howeth replied to Ross Hodgeson's topic in Mean Green Football
2021 No. 24 UTSA @ UNT I get all the reasons it wasn't an important game, but we still took care of business against an AP ranked team at home.
