  1. I'm cutting the cord and BSPN is the least of my concerns. In 2015 there is no reason BSPN is necessary. Everything they give you is online, in a less biased fashion. If I need to watch a game, I'll use someone's password or go to a sports bar and have a beer.
  2. That's because liberal arts majors often go for jobs that are personally fulfilling vs just paying the bills. Personally, I'd rather struggle financially doing a job I truly love vs making bank but hating my job. If you're an English Major, things like working in a bookstore are technically "underemployed" but what if you enjoy them? College is not a degree mill. You go to college to learn what interests you, and shouldn't be solely based on majoring in what will get you a job. After you graduate, take your degree and make that degree work for you. College is about learning, and because society says "EVERYONE MUST GO TO COLLEGE" actually going to college to learn or follow your passions doesn't happen anymore. A philosophy degree is not less valid than a STEM degree. There is such a thing called "personal fulfillment". Society's obsession with STEM and "to get a good job go to college" is why the university system is dying, ready to pop at any minute. University is NOT a degree mill or work training. It is a place to learn, find yourself, and a place to follow your interests.
  3. Degree in English netted me a great job. I did just fine following my passion.
  4. Yay! More character assassination based off of a stupid Facebook chart two years ago!
  5. I'd bet he'll move to a Sun Belt FBS program and immediately win the job.
  6. He showed he was the best man for the job. He'll go somewhere else and tear it up. Unless he goes to SMU, I'll root for him to tear it up like he's going to.
  7. Well it's all new and bright/shiny. It doesn't look too different from the new Union. And I agree it did. But we didn't need to gut it and spend $130 mil on it.
  8. I'm reserving my opinion on McNulty until Spring Game. I still think that he would excel in a more up-tempo quick snap modern offense, and from all accounts they're moving to a more modern offense. I'll believe it when I see it though.
  9. This guy gets it. Although we did lose 8-1 to the A's. Long season, though.
  10. So sensitive. Walker's done more for UNT than you've ever done so you should probably check yo self.
  11. I have been in Houston a lot recently and let me tell you, despite Herman's campaign, Houston still don't give a damn about UH and they get about as much media coverage as we do. This is what all the new young coaches are trying to do, but social media only goes so far.
  12. Most Tier 1 schools don't get politicians to do commencement addresses. Preempting A&M/Perry arguments--Perry is an Aggie. That's different.
  13. There will be. From people like UNT90. He should've never been booked in the first place and it's a symptom of the disconnect between the administration and students. You wouldn't see heavily liberal speakers talking at heavily conservative schools. That, in addition to the fact that in a year in which I got MUCH LESS than my student fees pay for, that UNT cheaped out on the speaker due to poor financial situation after swearing up and down it wouldn't affect us makes me even more angry. I'm dedicated to the athletic side, but the academic side has burned a lot of bridges with me my last year.
  14. Agreed, completely. Bush speech was shameful. But it's not special to our university.
  15. *at commencement. Most people support him in DLS and I've never seen a petition here for Bush, Rice or Gates.
  16. We're a left-leaning school. If a liberal politician spoke at Texas Tech or A&M, would you expect a welcoming response?
  17. Because he thinks all conservative STEM people think like he does.
  18. Do you think this doesn't happen at other left-leaning universities?
  19. Ah, yes, that's exactly what I said. Clearly. Not that our argument is pointless because we're not changing anyone's minds. Nope. I wouldn't support ANY controversial political figure. Wendy Davis, anyone. There's a reason why UT goes for nonpartisan social leaders. Abbott's predecessor from the same party ripped on UNT routinely, drove us into the ground, and ignored his conservative constituents in Denton because he didn't respect the city or the institution. Abbott so far has insulted Denton voters and alienated many people who should've been able to focus on their day but now have to deal with protests, interruptions and booing. It's a poor decision any way you slice it.
  20. I would put my future Alumni Association donation down on it.
  21. Well, I think you're wrong, so this argument is irrelevant.
