Texas Rangers 2016
Ryan Munthe replied to FirefightnRick's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Rangers were not as good as their record showed during that run, and are not as bad as they've performed recently. Wouldn't sweat it too much, should be a fun chase for the ALW. Both Astros & Rangers are in that 87-92 win territory. -

They made great sandwiches but they were never open and the whole name thing hurt. -
No shit, Sherlock. However, UT and Tech also have strong footholds here. If Houston could ever hit their potential as a program, Big 12 would have more muscle in Houston. What I'm suggesting is that the Big 12 would rather not have Houston turn into Atlanta, where SEC football is bigger than the NFL, despite Atlanta being in the middle of ACC country. That's why B12 grabbed TCU.

UH's problem has always been support. It will continue to be their problem, much like it is our problem. Both schools have a pedigree of being commuter colleges, but are no longer, and are now both Tier One. Both are the big public universities in huge cities. Houston is vastly more successful athletically than we are, though. And they still have turnout issues. I live here. The sports media here doesn't respect UH (see Herman's meltdown on the radio) and Houston as a whole is not focused on college football. Houston may very well get the call. But I think they have a lot of challenges ahead...mainly that they struggle to attract 30K fans in the fourth largest city in America that they are centrally located in, with next to no competition on Saturdays. That has always held UH back, and I think it will continue to hold UH back. UH keeps winning, yes, but hasn't moved up. The AAC now is the CUSA they were in before. In addition, UH's neighborhood holds them back, as well. Not a lot of hotels nearby, serious safety issues, and cramped tailgating. Their basketball program is in dire straits, as well. And as much as UH has improved academically, they're leagues behind most of the other members (yes, even Tech) in the rankings that people read. Houston offers Big 12 a strong foothold in a market that is ripe for the picking. If UH gets the call it'll be the Big 12 trying to keep the SEC out.

GoMeanGreen.com 2016 Denton Food and Drink List

Paschall Bar. The best prohibition/high-end cocktail style mixed drinks you'll find west of the Mississippi, at Denton prices. It's a hidden gem in town, no sign, just a door next to Andy's. Ivy League bar style, books, chess tables, etc. Can't explain it til you visit. The best view of the Courthouse and downtown Denton around. You realize how special of a place Denton is when you see the sunset through their window. Owned by the Midlake guys, so the music is on point. Not the greatest beer selection, but that's not what it's about. Hopping bar after 9pm, but during the day it's a great place to read and day drink. Probably my favorite cocktail bar, ever. -
Party atmosphere doesn't work. See FIU.

My math skills are equal to your reading skills. (I said 0% chance UH gets in before BYU or Cincy.) Also the radio silence on the whole Men's basketball thing is amusing. If your coach can't handle Ticket-lite in Houston he'll get eaten up by B12 media but that's none of my business. Oh, and stay safe when visiting your alma mater, buddy. Dangerous out there in the tre. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/amp/Gunfire-leaves-man-dead-in-Third-Ward-8397591.php?

Give up promoting DFW. Promote to Denton, Gainesville and the small towns that surround it. No reason people in Texas should have to root for OU.

0% chance, for a variety of reasons I'm going to explain below. Texan Donald Trump means nothing. UH's one season doesn't earn them a seat at the table. Big 12 has two teams in Texas, none in Ohio. Ohio is big time Big 10 territory, and they need to enter the market. Despite A&M, the Big 12 controls Texas with UT & Tech. Cincinnati has made a bowl every year since 2007, UH 2012. In a down year for Cincy, they averaged 37K. In UH's best year ever, they averaged 34K. Cincinnati has a storied men's basketball program and sell out a 14K seat arena regularly. UH had Phi Slamma Jamma and hasn't done anything since the early 90s. They never sell out their stadium (which is decrepit at best). Cincinnati is ranked higher than UH in every major publication academically and has double the endowment. Cincinnati has been in a BCS/P5 conference far longer than UH has. Houston is not an ideal college football market, either. UH has nothing over Cincy. And don't even get me started on BYU, which is in another stratosphere above the Coogs. Cincy is also a lot higher up on the university in-state food chain due to the fact that there aren't nearly as many good universities in Ohio as there are in Texas. B12's short list is likely: 1.) BYU 2.) Cincy 3.) UH 4.) UConn

BYU and Cincy. You heard it here first. UH has no chance. UTEP and Rice will leave CUSA, USM to AAC, ULL, Arky State, USA to CUSA. You heard it here first. I just made myself sad. Now we'll be stuck "in-state rivals" nUTSAck. I still think the AAC is living on borrowed time, I'd rather be in the MWC.

When you played two home games, calling it a legitimate program is a bit of a stretch. We've been ranked once and have three bowl victories. We've never been a legitimate program. Sorry.

No, there's nothing wrong with being directional. Which I said, and am suggesting you have trouble reading now. I said that both together, not so much. Also, NCSU doesn't count because the state name is directional, it's a flagship "state" college. I'm glad NTSU was relevant in the 70s for three years, with those crazy 10k crowds for the two games at Fouts and two games as Texas Stadium. My seventy year old grandfather who can't work a Windows 95 knows NTSU because that's "where Mean Joe got his name from, right?" /s We're where we're at because of the flying worm/NTSU 70s era, but that's none of my business.

None of those have the direction in front of them, or are you just willingly being difficult?
