If they were serious they would've fired Littrell after last year. Doesn't have to be Briles, he was just the coach in question. Want to be serious? Want to show you're ready to have a high level G5 program? Go steal away Billy Napier, Skip Holtz, Bill Clark etc at the end of the season, Pay Littrell's buyout, and put yourself in the best position possible for the future. No more "oh look he was an awesome p5 OC with a bunch of 4/5 star studs at every position". Get a HC that's built a program and won with that program. But we're UNT, and we'd rather look like we care, than actually care about having a successful football program. Mason Fine and Graham Harrell are gone folks. Littrell lost his golden ticket. Maybe Phil Bennett will save him from being fired but I doubt it. Three straight straight 4 win seasons is where we're headed, so where do I donate for the banner?

I'd be ecstatic if we hired Briles. Sure there's baggage, and a lot of ethical questions, and he's probably a genuine piece of garbage, but it would be the first time we've ever shown we were truly serious about a winning football program. In a time where re-alignment is inevitable, we need to be in the best position possible, and three straight 4 win seasons with Littrell is about as bad of a look as we could have. Considering the recent success with basketball, as well as other sports, we need to have a successful football program. It's the only way forward, and Seth Littrell will not be a part of that plan. If Wren is as good as we think he is, he needs to shit or get off the pot. Hire a proven winner, like you did with McCasland, and make yourself known to the college football world. People like to talk about SMU being the one to keep us from the AAC, but the reality is they don't have to do anything, because we're doing it to ourselves.

UAB and LaTech will have winning seasons when it's all said and done. Knowing that, I have zero faith Seth Littrell will win either game

Seth Littrell is not a good head coach. He found his golden egg in Mason Fine and paired him with one of the greatest spread offense college QB's of all time. There was chemistry and understanding, and Mason was just good enough to mask a lot of our issues. Now he and Graham Harrell are gone. Everybody in America knows we're running up the gut on 3rd/4th and 1. Our QB isn't accurate enough to run the offense efficiently, and our play calling has been VERY suspect at times. Finally we seem to have found a solid DC after FIVE SEASONS, but it still isn't enough. His game management is still horrendous. I'm done, have been for a while now. We need a competent game manager and Seth is not it. I keep thinking and hoping he's going to prove me wrong, but he just does what he does: Lose rivalry games, lose big games, and lose games against winning teams. I'm fine if he stays the full season, because firing him mid season could really kill morale, but he needs to go. If we're serious about football, we need to look elsewhere.

SMU is gonna run it up on us early and we'll score some late garbage time points. SMU 52 UNT 27

I like these just fine. Just hoping we have a little more variety than last year. Seeing the same uniform every game is boring, especially when we're losing

Or the fact that Mac took the majority of snaps in the preseason, was the highest graded QB in the preseason (according to PFF) and threw exactly 0 balls that were likely to be turned over. The Pats will lean heavy run/play action a lot like they did in Brady's early years. They got a lot back on defense and Mac fits their system/culture a lot more than Cam does(even though by all accounts Cam was a good teammate in his time in NE) Just throwing in my 2 cents as a Pats fan. Back on topic. Just add this to the long list of Littrell complaints I have. He lost Mason Fine, and now he has no idea what to do. Pick a guy and stick with him. Fine had bad games(although they were few and far between), and he stayed in. Let the guy work through his mistakes and learn from them, no use in playing ring around the QB for another season. If we're constantly switching starters again I might change my prediction from 4-8 to 2-10. There's no reason this should be a debate.

2021 Mean Green Player Adoption (Please Read)
MGNation92 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Give me Carson Kropp. I like his size at LB and hope he can bolster our run defense -
As a resident skeptic and overall pessimist of North Texas football, you'll learn to tone it down. Makes conversations with other board members a lot more pleasant. I love my university and it's sports programs. There are a lot of homers here, no doubt. But more often than not the regular posters (such as @MeanGreenTexan) put forward good faith arguments/points. At this point he's right. You're just arguing with yourself. Is Ruder better than Aune? As a high school player, yes. As a college QB? Nobody knows because we haven't seen him play a down for us. I want whoever will win us football games. Pirtle is not the answer at TE, and I'm almost positive everyone would agree on that one. Torrey is a good compliment back, not a workhorse. We've known that since he's been here. He's small, quick, and shifty with good hands. Everything you want in a 3rd down/compliment back. Addaway is a big guy that's better suited in between the tackles. As for Torrey not gaining a yard on 3rd and 1, I'd argue that's more Littrell's fault, because all 128 teams in the FBS and probably most of the FCS know his short yardage strategy is a run up the gut. All that being said, if Littrell wins less than 6 games, he needs to be canned, and we need to find a competent head coach

They finished 2-10 that year so yeah I'd say they were terrible. That being said, we're supposed to beat bad teams like that. No excuses. 2018 was arguably our best year under Littrell. Even then, he was losing big games. Games that would matter in the conference standings, games that would give us a trophy. I don't trust his in game management/coaching staff enough to have much hope in big games. They've failed more than they've succeeded

Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend...
MGNation92 replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Well it was either him or McNuggets. We were absolutely screwed once Thompson left -

Definitely possible. I graduated high school with 30 credit hours. Although I still graduated in the standard 4 years for no particular reason..... -
I really think Mason Fine is gonna become a quality player for us

If Pirtle is the starting TE I have officially given up on the position having any meaningful impact on the offense. Nothing against him, but we have what, 4 high level TE recruits on the roster? Just doesn’t make sense to me

It's really sad that we left the sun belt for a "better" conference to only watch the Sun Belt completely blow C-USA out of the water

Comparing the trajectory of Bob Stoops and Seth Littrell
MGNation92 replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Seth did what Kevin Sumlin did at A&M. Rode his legendary QB to an insane amount of money and coasted into mediocrity once he left. -
Wren Baker in consideration for Mizzou AD job…
MGNation92 replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly. Hell, I wanted Mosley for the job when RV left. He's extremely qualified and has been working hand in hand with Baker's agenda for the last few years. It's a no brainer -
That and Bowen's only skin on the wall was.....Kansas, and well, they're awful. Bennett at least knows how to run a defense to compliment a high powered offense. If we can score 35 a game, I think we have a fighting chance. That being said, I think Littrell is done and needs to move on to his next P5 OC gig
-
Maybe they use him as an in the box safety. He certainly has the size for it
