https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Texas_Mean_Green_football_statistical_leaders#Tackles According to this he's already the career leader? It's also wikipedia so who knows

Yes, we should be ever so grateful for a career .500 coach with no bowl wins or conference championships in 7 years. We should give him even more money!

Memphis went 5-31 the three seasons before Fuente got there. Sure he struggled the first two seasons, but once he got his recruits, they flourished and continued to excel under Norvell after. No idea if Seth is setting us up for future success. We have a young team so it's possible. The question becomes do we want to stick with what we know? Or do we take the chance to improve?

From a recruiting standpoint, Deion would be a no brainer. I just don't know about everything else. Maybe the recruiting edge would be enough for us to stay competitive in the AAC. He's had two very good years, and that is probably due to the talent he's bringing in. Coaching wise? No idea Edit: Also forgot to mention, this would be a LOT of eyes to the program. We would get regular national media attention, simply because of him. Hell, the more I think about it, the more I'd be down. His OC runs the air raid, so the offensive shift wouldn't be too dramatic

1. 7-8 wins a season at minimum, bowl appearances and wins 2. Conference championship appearance every 3-4 years, more often obviously being more ideal 3. No major controversies 4. Recruiting well against peers, ESPECIALLY in-state. As far as coach goes, I think 3-4 seasons should be the leash. If they don't have multiple bowl wins, solid recruiting, and/or a conference championship? Time to move on. Basically what I'm saying is: We need to be Houston

I trust Wren. Just get Littrell the hell out of here

If Clemson hires a career .500 G5 coach with no conference championships, I will eat my own shoes.

Watch as next year the first couple of games are really rough because no other QB is getting playing time in these type of games. Earle doesn't really count since he runs on every play he's in.

Littrell: *sneezes* UNTJim: There it is, lifetime contract incoming *insert incoherent conspiracy theories on how the "UNT 17" control the media, corporations, and are ushering in the new world order*

If Seth beats UAB on the road should he be extended?
MGNation92 replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Football
Sure they do. It's another opportunity against a quality OOC opponent. Sure winning conference is more important, but we need to be able to compete and win against our nonconference peers as well. It also matters in recruiting. Players get to travel more, it shows you're committed to winning trophies(however trivial they may be, they still count for something), and it shows you're on an upward trajectory. -
Aune has been much better. Phil Bennett has also improved the defense significantly throughout the season. I don't think Seth has changed much, if at all.

I wish they'd give him more options to throw the ball. I get he's in there for a specific package, but mixing it up with a pass or two on those drives could really catch people off guard, especially since he's already running a bunch of read options. Pull the ball and throw a pop pass or a quick slant to keep em honest

I agree with most of this here. I think the glaring OOC record and his record in trophy games/lack of reaching the conference championship consistently is where I'm still not convinced. CUSA is putrid. With our resources we should dominate, and outside 2017-2018 we haven't. People like to point out his 6 bowls in 7 seasons which would be great if we were even remotely competitive in any of them (2016 HOD was the most competitive and we still lost and that was his first year). Same with the lone championship game he made. FAU absolutely smoked us. SMU consistently smokes us, which is why I never considered them a rival. UTSA is easily our best rival: tied series, close games, mutual hatred It feels like nearly every time we play a team with a winning record, we get crushed. I think I saw something like 4-30 against teams with a winning record(could be wrong there, but I know it's not good). I'm just worried we're gonna coast to the championship game and get blown out, because that's what history tells us is gonna happen. I hope he changes that perception this year, but I'm not confident.

It should be that simple

Hell I was beating the Seth drum just as loudly as anyone else in 2017-18. After 3 consecutive losing seasons, it's pretty clear where our program is with him. If he was winning 8-10 games a year I'd be ecstatic, but he's not. I want UNT to be successful, and I don't think he can get us there. I'd love to be proved wrong

Definition of apologist : someone who speaks or writes in defense of someone or something that is typically controversial, unpopular, or subject to criticism Condescending? Hardly. Littrell is a .500 coach. Plenty of posters on here are defending him despite this. He's not a bad coach, but if we want to raise our expectations, we have to do better than "not bad".
-
Not including this year, 4 of his 6 completed seasons have had a losing record. He's never won a bowl or a conference championship. I get you're a Littrell apologist but holy crap dude. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Its year 7, we know how this ends. Littrell will beat up bad teams, and then get rolled over in the games that matter
-
Based on their track record? Probably the end of the season. He might get another year after what he did in 2021. Most Houston fans I've seen are ready to get rid of him. Mainly because they actually have high expectations, unlike the majority of our fanbase. Something about horseshoes and hand grenades

I agree wholeheartedly. Seth is a fine coach. Not great, not terrible. He's .500 for a reason, which to some, is acceptable. If we're going to become the next Houston? We're gonna need better than fine. Houston has routinely fired head coaches after 8-4 or 9-3 seasons because the expectation is 10+ wins and a major bowl birth EVERY YEAR . We need to be on that same level. Other sports are there. McCasland is incredible, Hedlund is incredible, DeLong is incredible, and Jalie is getting there. Track and Tennis are consistently good. Volleyball under Palileo was very good (jury's out on the new head coach). One glaring piece of the puzzle we still lack? An incredible football coach. Find one and we're in business
-
With the recent info coming out that Seth is almost guaranteed to be fired at seasons end, I imagine it's the old players rallying behind him.

Just enough to earn an extension. Then it's back to business as usual
