First Mac Speech - "When you're in Florida, the Iowa is a national championship ring and we will win running the ball and playing good defense." *Loud applause and cheering from the crowd* Second Mac Speech - "In the Florida, the Iowa was running the ball and playing good defense with a national championship" *Applause is significantly more quiet* Last Mac Speech -"Portland St. obviously had more Iowa than our Florida could muster. They the ran ball well and Iowa'd when we Florida'd and when that happens national championship rings are scarce" *Crickets*

1. I think we will be significantly better. More aggressive play styles will result in more opportunities and a coaching staff that relates better to the players and puts them into positions to succeed. 2. Offense will be better by leaps and bounds. It won't even be close. I think Morris will be one of the top QB's(if healthy) in the conference. Couple that with Wilson and Ivery I think out offense will be potent 3. Defense will be better based on principle alone. Ekeler and Reffett will have an aggressive defense. They will attack the ball, not sit back and hope to make a tackle. I suspect we'll see more blitzes and man coverage(There's a reason they moved Buyers to WR, he's a zone corner).

This is where this staff will succeed over the previous staff. They're young. They have energy. They're teaching by example, not just screaming at the players. They're not a bunch of geriatric old farts trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Our players will be in better positions to succeed on every play

Basically. In all seriousness McCarney had that fake "Please be excited, I'm desperate" energy. These guys had the kind of energy that said we're here to work, we're not gonna make excuses, and we're gonna have fun doing it

Don't know if anyone else went to the coaches show(I don't know many faces from the board) but I wanted to offer a few thoughts: Very exciting time at Rudy's. You could tell there was an excitement in the air for the new coaching staff, spring game, and upcoming season. Coach Littrell seemed much more relaxed than in previous speaking opportunities and Dave, as always, was great. One humongous difference in this staff is the energy they all bring to the table. I swear all of them look like they could put on pads and a helmet and play tomorrow. Lots of energy from them. My biggest takeaway was the overall will to win. These guys don't seem to care about anything but how they can win games. Ekeler seems like he and Reffett will make formidable duo in coaching schemes and principles, and Harrell is a chip off the old Mike Leach block. Admittedly I was a bit starstruck with Harrell as I grew up in West Texas watching him sling it every Saturday so that was really cool. Everyone was down to earth and seemed much more relatable than the previous staff. Really excited to see what they can do.

DRC: Murray takes lead role in spring of change for UNT OL
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Every coach on the offensive staff has run this offense at the college level. Couple that with the fact the Morris is a solid 230-240, and Vizza was maybe 180 pounds soaking wet in '07. Plus the Air Raid is different than the offense Dodge ran. Call me optimistic, but I think Morris has a shot to be one of the top QB's in the conference this season -
I know it's just the spring game, but I'm all in for coach Littrell so I'll be there. Let's give him a warm welcome!

Since I'm tired of reading everyone here bickering like an old married couple about the current state of UNT athletics, I had an interesting thought about the Harrell Passing School. With Harrell's current status as an OC and the NCAA ruling of no satellite camps, does this mean he will no longer be able to participate/evaluate those players? I see this as a potential leg up for recruiting but I am curious as to whether or not it violates any sanctions as far as recruiting those players and the satellite camp rules now in place.

DRC: Murray takes lead role in spring of change for UNT OL

Wouldn't bigger gaps in the Oline splits make it easier for DT's to shoot the gap and penetrate thus negating the benefit the extended time it takes for the DE's to get there? -

Right? "We're gonna throw the ball 50 times a game, but none of our guys can pass block worth a damn" seems like a disaster waiting to happen -
Maybe UNT Athletics is the Titanic.... AND RICK VILLARREAL IS THE ICEBERG SINKING US IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY TO TAKE MY MONEY

MGB: Kirby taking leave of absence, UNT trying Buyers at WR

I thought Erick Evans was going to be a stud for us. He could've done great things in this offense -

MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I think with Buyers you look at Amendola and Welker, even a Julian Edelman. None of these successful slot guys will just burn past you. They are quick, shifty, and have the ability to find creases in the defense where they can wiggle for a few extra yards. They are YAC machines. Not guys who average 20 a catch. Straight line speed is not nearly as important as short area quickness in the slot -
I'm excited about the spring. I'm excited for the new coaching staff, and the new offensive/defensive schemes. I loved my time at UNT and love Denton as well. I think that goes without saying for 99.9% of us on this board. To me, talking about the excitement of spring ball is much more interesting, especially for those who have actually seen the practices. I don't think that's negative. Sure we're all ready for another beating this season because that's what we're used to. Just because most of us think RV is terrible at his job doesn't mean we still don't get excited about spring ball, especially a spring in which we will see schemes, plays, and coaching that will create an electric atmosphere and culture
-
Yeah it was a pretty rough listen. I usually enjoy the podcast a lot but Harry talked about Alec Morris for about 5 minutes and that was the only spring ball(other than saying don't get too hyped) talk of the entire thing. Kind of disappointing.

6'3" 185 pounds, can run fairly well and had almost a 1:1 TD/INT ratio in high school? Somewhere in the distance Dan McCarney is licking his chops

It's scary what success and money will do to a program. Sweep it under the rug as long as they're raking in the revenue

I just meant that they both employed the "Lets sit back 10 yards and hope they can react quickly enough" defense -

I think with the recent understanding of the defense Ekeler and Reffett want to employ we will see a lot more bump and run coverage than with Skladany/Cosh. Buyers is not a bump and run guy, he would bump and get burned. Brooks and Preston have the ability to make up ground with their speed. If you're gonna play aggressive coverage schemes you have to have the right personnel. Buyers is a soft zone corner 100%. Of course he excelled at Skladany/Cosh's base Cover 2 Zone scheme. It gave him time to read and react. Put him in Cover 1 man or cover 3 and he's gonna be put on an island. No ideal for a guy with less than ideal straight line speed -
I like the direction Ekeler and Reffett have the defense going. Seems like we will be much more aggressive in attacking the ball, blitzing, and more aggressive coverage schemes. It seems like we'll have a multiple coverage/multiple alignment defense that has a propensity to blitz. I'm hoping to see a lot of zone blitzes to get pressure from different angles
