Pat Watkins was 6'5" and played for the cowboys Kam Chancellor was a hell of a safety and I think he was 6'3"/6'4" Edit: Also Tanner McEvoy is 6'6" and played for a handful of NFL teams. It's rare, but it has happened before

Breaking: North Texas lands ULM QB Transfer Chandler Rogers

I hope he gets a fair shot at the job. From the outside looking in it always felt like Littrell stuck to his guns of having the "least worst" QB out there after Mason graduated. -
Breaking: North Texas lands ULM QB Transfer Chandler Rogers

I’m inclined to agree but look at what Seth brought in. He couldn’t evaluate QBs to save his life and several of those guys are rated higher than Rogers. I trust Morris’ QB assessment way more than I trust Seth’s- 78 replies

Ain't stopping Tx State. With all the information known to the public, Kinne is running circles around Morris right now.

I wonder if Sonny picked up some pointers from his good buddy Seth on how to get absolutely embarrassed when the lights are the brightest.

And he's already got experience as an Air Raid QB. Would be a homerun IMO

Portal - Mississippi State QB Sawyer Robertson
MGNation92 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
With Morris' ties to Leach and the air raid, it would make sense to bring one of these guys here. They already know the system (at least the base system) and I'm sure if Leach thought they could play QB for his system, Morris probably feels the same. -
All of this We have no traditions or history. Why have such a stick up your ass about needing a green jersey and white pants every single game. Same with the throwbacks. The flying worm is cool but every game? Hayden Fry hasn’t coached here in 50 years, so get over it and have some variety.

How/Why Iowa State started using the 3-3-5
MGNation92 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I was about to say, with Reffett's 3-3-5 we'd regularly send 5 or 6 rushers. I like the 3-3-5 because it gives multiple looks and multiple fronts without having to sub players as often (assuming you have a couple LB/Safety hybrid players on the field at all times). Plus the ability to send pressure everywhere and still cover well in the back end -
Breaking: North Texas lands Louisiana Safety Transfer

Napier’s Louisiana teams would’ve beaten us by 30 so any kid they thought could play is fine by me. -
GOMEANGREEN Recruiting Update: January 3rd, 2023
MGNation92 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah. I give Seth credit for offering this kids and Morris the same credit for re-offering. I'm gonna question beating out Northeast Technical School for the Deaf and Blind just as much under Morris as I did Littrell. This day in age "diamonds in the rough" are much harder to find. If we are landing guys that don't have comparable/better offers than us, It's gonna be a head scratcher regardless of the coach. -

Sure I know that, but JD said they need to be selective with limited spots available. Why are we recruiting borderline FBS kids instead of solid G5 players? I know '23 is going to be disappointing because of the timing with the hire/staff hires. Just expected it to be different. Hopefully next year is more promising. -

Also want to say outside the SOC guys we offered, seeing these players and their offer lists doesn't look much better than Littrell. How are we gonna have "top notch recruiters" and still be battling against the likes of Grambling State and Abilene Christian? Concerning to say the least -
Will be big to see what Morris does versus Littrell. We're at LaTech and at FIU in 2023. Games that Littrell would typically struggle with. We might lose one of them, but is it a competitive loss? I sure hope so

GOMEANGREEN Recruiting Update: January 3rd, 2023
MGNation92 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
We have all the pieces offensively to be successful immediately. So keeping as many as we can here will be huge. QB remains the biggest question mark. Are we gonna have any transfer portal activity there? Or is there gonna be an in house solution? IMO the most important piece going into next year -
New Years Resolutions for UNT Athletics

Hard disagree. Sure the coaches don’t make the decision, but if you don’t think a lot of kids are asking their HS coaches for advice, or those coaches aren’t pushing their alma mater or a big time P5 offer you’re crazy. How many times have we seen a big time recruit go to a school and the HS head coach is put on the staff as an analyst? -
For those still believing we should have given Seth more time
MGNation92 replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
1. Saying we can’t be much worse than last year, and Iowa St had a better defense than us by a wide margin. (Yes I know we can technically be worse this year) 2. Meant moreso the players. I know we ran the veer and shoot, but the players have been recruited for a spread offense. Many from when we we were still running more of an air raid. -

MGNation92 replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Our defense was 125th in the nation. Caponi will most certainly upgrade the secondary, which was regularly torched last season. Front 7 I’m not convinced yet. Offense is gonna be fine. Similar systems, coaches that know the system. OL coach is gonna be very important. We have a lot of good pieces there that can be elite. -

North Texas Football Staff Tracker
MGNation92 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
They were crediting him with the development of the twins and the “devil” pass rushing position when in reality he inherited strong DT’s in Enoch and Rod Brown and Petrilli was coaching guys like Richards up. My point was more along the lines of Seth thinking Bennett was gonna save his ass (which clearly he did not) and giving him free reign to bring on his son in law. maybe he was a miracle worker and I’m completely off base. I just think our true strength lied in already having a decent DT rotation, and Petrilli coaching up our impact pass rushers. Hence why I said I’d want to retain him. -
Lol wut. He’s hiring absolute stud coaches from TEXAS AND ALABAMA that have connections in two of the most talent rich areas of the country, let alone the state. He got a DC from one of the toughest defenses in the big 12. You ever stop to think he took less on purpose so he could surround himself with great coaches and not be the “smartest one in the room” like another poster mentioned Seth wanting to be?
