DRC: Monday practice notes and observations

I would hope so. While the air raid is about getting the ball to players in space, a lot of that is pushing the field vertically as well. Which, IMO, we did not do enough of last year. -

Are we his only offer? Scout has him listed at 6'3" 315 lbs. Good size! -
DRC breaking news -- UNT assistants receiving pay raises

It's absolutely about recruits though. Reason Mac and Littrell are vastly different is Mac clearly couldn't out coach his shitty recruiting, whereas I believe Littrell will coach up his and Mac's recruits. I will be a lot more concerned with Littrell if he's going 6-6 or worse in his 3rd or 4th seasons -

He intrigues me at the rover spot. Get him up to about 210 and you got a guy that is fluid enough to cover the seams but big enough to support the run

MGB: Spring practice opens tomorrow -- News and notes
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely. Especially at his size. I just saw him listed as DE/LB on the official roster. Won't be surprised to see him play in a similar role to Combs last year. Big enough to play DE but athletic enough to cover the flats -

FTFY. Also, you bring up a good point. There are currently 10 LB's(11 if you count Hambone) on the roster, not counting Fulp. That effectively gives you a 3 man rotation at every LB spot. Also noticing a few DB's with some good size on the roster. This defense is gonna be fun to watch. Guys are gonna fly to the ball from any and every direction -

Updated Roster for Spring: http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/ntex-m-footbl-mtt.html Curious to see a lot of our linebackers sitting around the 220-230 mark. Looks like they're pushing speed over size. Really hoping they put Kelvin Smith more at the H-back running routes out of the backfield. I think it'll happen more as the O-line gels together and we don't need to max protect as much with the H-back Also really interested to see the QB and Slot(A Receiver) battles play out. To me, the slot might be the most important receiver in this offense. We need a Wes Welker/Trent Taylor type that can consistently pick up 7-8 yards a catch and get those first downs in crucial spots -

Seems a bit strange striking this deal with spring ball on Monday and no O-line/D-line coach to speak of. Officially at least -

Looks like coach Koonz, or whomever is in charge of Louisiana is hitting it hard lately. Good to see -

I think he's referring to scholarship players. There's a max of 85, and I believe we're closer to the 75 mark -

I'm just saying from a philosophy stand point, if you want to run a 3-3-5 with a lot stunts on the DLine, would it not make the most sense to hire a guy who has experience teaching this system? Especially when that system was run very efficiently(at ULM)?

MGB: UNT targeting former OU lineman for assistant job
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Why? He has similar credentials? Top FCS O-line, high school, OC, HC experience. Makes a lot of sense -
Now that Reffett is the sole DC I said Everett Todd, his old DL coach at ULM http://www.gsutigers.com/coaches.aspx?rc=318&path=football

Depends on depth. Should be better than last year, but I don't think the roster is at full strength yet. I would call it a 50/50 chance
