DRC: UNT's post-spring depth chart with thoughts
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm just praying that Fine isn't Littrell's McNulty. You can try as hard as you want but if it ain't there it ain't there. The fact is while Wilson is our workhorse, he's also made of glass, and I'd be willing to bet teams are going to key on that little swing pass next year because it was the only play we ran with any sort of consistency last year. My question is, when you take away that safety net, will Fine be able to do anything else consistently well? So far I haven't seen it. Even with improved receivers -

Not to mention Alec Morris threw 9 of those 15 TD's in less games. Let's face it, you're a Shanbour apologist, and having expectations of an average air raid QB season are completely and utterly ridiculous. You know, because North Texas. Should I also mention the fact that Jeffery Wilson hasn't played a full season in his entire career and *whispers* we may need a competent QB to win us a few football games. But what do I know, I don't breakdown gifs and go on podcasts doing football analysis -
DRC: UNT's post-spring depth chart with thoughts

20 TD's would be remarkable if we weren't running an offensive system that regularly churns out 20+ TD passers every single year. I'm not saying Shanbour is better, I'm saying we need to raise our standards of QB play. There's a reason we were his only FBS offer folks. I stand by my statement. Prove me wrong. -

I'd rather have a guy tuck it and run too early than one that goes through one read and takes a 15 yard sack -

Eh, for an offense predicated on exploiting matchups, especially in the passing game, if we, as an "Air Raid" offense, don't average 30+ points a game and 20+ passing TD's a season we need a new captain of the ship. Fine has the "moxie" but I sincerely doubt his physical capabilities of leading the offense to what it should look like as compared to other Air Raid offenses across the country, let alone our own conference(See La Tech and Western Kentucky) THAT should be the standard. Not "Let's hope Jeffery Wilson can carry the offense on his back for 12 games completely healthy behind a shoddy OL" -

Yeah I'm just very skeptical about the offense as a whole. I love our WR/RB groups, but Fine scares me, especially after seemingly no improvement from the limited amount I saw him. I just think 2k yards and 20tds should pretty much be the benchmark for an average Air Raid QB, and if the offense doesn't improve drastically I just don't see it happening. -

I'm gonna get downvoted to oblivion for this but here's my skip bayless hot take of the season: Even if he somehow stays healthy for the entire season, Mason Fine won't pass for 2k yards or 20 tds and our defense will have to play at 2013 levels to get us to 6-6. Prove me wrong -

*Hopefully* throwing the ball downfield more. Too many dink and dunks last year for an "Air Raid" offense

'18 OLB Keyshawn Johnson (Duncanville HS)
MGNation92 replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Good to hear. Really seems like the staff is stepping up their twitter game significantly. I'm seeing recruits tweet out way more stuff about "UNT Showing Love" with custom graphics. Breath of fresh air compared to the previous regime -
Shanbour Apparently on Scholarship Now
MGNation92 replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
Well yeah but I don't think most people knew that. I know i didn't. Just figured he was still a walk on I think he has a solid shot of taking the job this year. I think he's got a better arm/release than Fine and is equally as mobile, plus he might be the smartest guy on the team -
Good for him. He deserves it for the work he puts in. Excited to see him compete for the starting job

He seems to have been recruited by Nate Brown and if the last few years have proven anything, is that he is one of the top recruiters on the staff. Really excited for this kid. He can FLY -

My bad! Totally thought I did -
http://www.texasfootball.com/50-important-college-players-texas-2017-no-40-unts-jalen-guyton/ If we can get any sort of vertical passing game going this year this kid will shine for us. Key problem is our inability to throw it deep with any sort of success

So who got the best transfer QB in C-USA this year?
MGNation92 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
5'9 170 lbs QB's that can't see over their lineman and stare down receivers typically don't excel. Sarcasm doesn't make our QB situation any better, and from what I saw last year, Morris had better stats in less games, and two other QB's, including a true freshman, looked better than he did this spring. I'm rooting for Fine as much as the next guy, but I just don't see it as of right now -

I think the jury is out currently through spring. Isadore is very intriguing to me. I really hope he's able to push for the starting job, because I'm growing increasingly concerned that 5 wins might be Fine's ceiling. Unless he drastically improves his inconsistencies and issues -

DRC: UNT OL Wylie Reinhardt elects to give up football
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Sad to hear but completely understand his decision and glad he is doing whats best for his family. That being said, I think this puts even more importance on using that last scholarship on a potential late JUCO or Grad transfer lineman -
DRC: Report -- Gage still committed to UNT

Glad to know! He will be a huge piece for our team if we can keep him moving forward -
DRC: UNT picks up commitment from Antonio Gage
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Well you also have to understand Nate Brown's positioning too. He PLAYED for Reffett at ULM, then coached for him. If there's anyone that has ties to Reffett and his defense, it would be Brown. I can guarantee you Littrell isn't an idiot. He will reward the guy for busting tail on the recruiting trail. You can also look at Mainord and see his jump from 75k to 120k in one season? He's clearly viewed as a high level recruiter too- 21 replies
