DRC: (Updated) UNT picks up commitment from Cole Brown
MGNation92 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
You know Ben we've agreed for the most part on this whole recruiting thing but you can argue your point reasonably without getting in a fist fight. Don't get so triggered when someone disagrees with you. -
I'm just going off of previous years results. Right now we're ahead in recruiting but they've clearly outrecruited us so far, especially last year and that's all we have to compare between Wilson/Littrell as far as concrete results.
-
@BillySee58 gets it
-
Yeah I'd like to see the proof of being a dirty program. I'm all for calling out cheaters but until there's some concrete evidence the only thing we see is UTSA outrecruiting us badly and getting further and further ahead. I just think it's a bit disingenuous to say "well they're beating us in recruiting, they have to be cheating!"
-
Not to play the devils advocate here(lord knows I have the last few weeks) but we still didn't sign any of these guys. Im glad we're getting in early. Need to get and keep those commitments
-
You're right. My bad. I'll go back to the regularly scheduled programming. Just been on a pissed off kick lately. I'm just ready for football to start. Baseball is so boring
-
I never said we had to out-recruit P5 schools to get ahead. We should be out-recruiting our conference mates. If the QB in question had a UNT, LaTech, Troy, App State, McNeese St, and ULM offer or something similar, you're damn skippy I think it'd be better to get that kid than the one that had an ULM and Chadron St offer. And for the record I like the Pearson signing and it looks like it will(hopefully) pay off huge dividends. Im just saying because of the scholarship situation we're already strapped for spots in the next class. We need to maximize those spots with as many quality players as possible. If we had a full 25 I'd be a lot more comfortable taking a few more chances but we don't have that luxury
-
So does that mean we are just supposed to skate by at 5-7 or 6-6 every season for a few years until they all get busted for recruiting violations? Good recruiting turns you into a winner. Winning garners more attention from recruits. If we don't start doing one or both of those we will continually be at the bottom of the barrel regardless of who the coach or AD Is.
-
You're right. And our coaching staff should be recruiting better than this. I will happily eat a never ending buffet of crow if we sign a class full of kids with little to no offers that go on to win multiple bowl games and conference titles. I have nothing against the kids at all. I do however have something against the staff or admins not battling for recruits like we can and should be. whether it be Martin, Tune or anyone else I will welcome them with open arms and hope for the best. I, however, will not be pleased to continually see our asses kicked by over half the conference in recruiting. Sure, we're second in the conference right now, but Gage has one foot out the door. Like you said, we have 6 months. We're currently in second. Let's keep it that way. if Lane Kiffin, Butch Davis, and Frank Wilson can do it, why can't Seth Littrell?
-
Well considering they both have multiple FBS offers it ain't happening. Now if they had multiple FCS offers only we'd have a chance. Martin will be our best shot as our QB commit. Tune has too many offers
-
It's not even remotely concerning to you that we're signing guys who have NO FBS INTEREST besides North Texas? when has that ever worked before? Hint: it hasn't.
-
I never said they suck. I said that it's terrifying we're offering recruits with no other FBS offers and hoping we can coach them up. That is not how you build a winning program You wanna talk shit at least tag me in it and at least get your facts straight about what I said
-
Yep I'll be that guy. If we're the only FBS offer I'll be severely disappointed
-
Isn't that what Dodge did though? Recruit a bunch of kids from "Winning" programs because they knew how to win, and then lost damn near every game his entire time here? Not saying it's the same thing, but worth noting
-
Yes. As far as I know, Joseph Ozougwu is the only guy Littrell has "Grayshirted" He is Blueshirting a few guys a class though. Hence why we could only sign 20 this year, and probably 20 or so next year depending.
-
My issue isn't with Wren Baker or Coach Littrell. I think we as a fan base we have accepted mediocrity for so long that we get excited for any kid that chooses UNT. I'm just of the mindset that you can't outscheme quality players. I get a bit wary of our self-evaluations when seemingly little to no other schools seem to agree on what our staff sees, especially those that run a similar scheme as us. If we're getting guys that fit our system, all of our offensive commits would have LaTech/Texas Tech/Washington State/Insert Air Raid team here offers. That doesn't seem to be the case often and it worries me. That being said, for all the negativity I've expressed, welcome Mr. Brown. I hope you work your ass off and become an all conference lineman for us

Hey man you were a hell of a player and we loved watching you ball out. Welcome to the Alumni family! We're not all as salty as we seem. Good luck in your next steps and let us know if you need any help. -
While Mr Wilson over at UTSA piles up 20 3 star recruits a class and runs over the conference for the next two years to a cushy P5 job
-
Higher expectations. The last few weeks I feel like UNT90. Am I turning into the crabby old man of the board? Time will tell

The way I see it, if Gage goes elsewhere, we'll pick up a WR from Po-Dunk, Oklahoma that magically nobody has ever heard of other than South By NorthEast New York PolyTech State and will propel us to heights we could only dream of! Stealth recruiting is what gets you wins. Not winning recruiting battles
