UNT - 21 Southern Miss - 42 Wakeup call before the bye week. This will be a team we should be consistently competing with and I think they get slapped around enough that they come out with their hair on fire against UTSA. I think this will be the most important game of the season to gauge where we really are. IF we can win and go into the bye at 3-2 we can compete for the division. I hope they prove me wrong, but this team flat out gets out coached in the second half of every game they've played in so far.

Indeed it was. I would've preferred they didn't show the graphic with 7 seconds left on the clock but that's neither here nor there. Could've been a huge egg on face moment though if they somehow ended up winning.

Bryce definitely has the discipline to cover those double moves. The secondary, for all is was lauded for in the preseason, has been trash to hot garbage. If they're getting burned all game, the pass rush won't matter.

Growing up in west Texas, I got to watch a lot of Texas Tech football, especially under Mike Leach, one of the founders of the Air Raid offense. The current knock against a lot of Air Raid teams, especially in the big 12, is that they just try and outscore the other team without playing much defense. With the current results of the season I think we may be approaching critical mass. I have a feeling if we don't score 40+ a game, we're not gonna win. Dear God I hope coach Reffett proves me wrong. I love the offense, but if we're gonna do anything this season, our defense has to shore it up, and fast.

Also Kelvin Smith was our leading receiver. We need to feed him. He's a damn good player.

Hard to say. McCarney's classes were generally bad to worse, with the few exceptions coming from East Texas, which was Perry's territory. I wouldn't say he was bad, but definitely wasn't good either.

I think what I meant when I was talking about shading the safety over is, if you know your linebacker is gonna be in the flat on coverage on a zone blitz, why wouldn't you have safety help in case he gets exposed? McClain went the other way and it was wide open since everyone else was playing man. I'm sure he read his keys like he was supposed to, I'm just saying what makes sense to me, then again I'm not a coach.

Yeah I see what you mean. Made the tackle pay attention to Wheeler long enough to shoot the gap. It looks like they've got 1 deep on the back end too. Seems like it would've been a better idea to shade the safety over on the back end and play cover 0 but that's just me.

Yeah against Josh Wheeler of all people. I understand it's a zone blitz and you're trying to cause misdirection but good lord why do we have our pass rushing defensive end in coverage? So stupid
