DRC: A look back on the top five coaches in UNT history
Matt Turney replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Sad to say we lost to ULM in 2001 17-19. Then beat at 5-0 MUTS team 24-21. This starting the conference winning streak. I vividly remember getting on the bus to the air port and hearing rumors Coach Dickey would be fired. That's when he rallied the troops. -
UNT cooler. With the logo from my playing time there. It's a larger wooden one with the logo carved in.

12 Brand new teacher duplexes. Sign on bonus, retention bonus, matching annuity, well above base it goes on and on. As as for how far west......... Where the land is flat and the oil wells look like trees. Crane America!

You guys ever wanna move west, make some $, let me know we're always looking for good folks and the benefits are well worth the move.

In one of Tony Dungees books he talks about his thoughts on drafting to the NFL. He said they didn't worry too much about the combine. Their main thoughts were how did the athlete perform in college. If they were studs in college that transferred into the pros. I think a lot of kids get over looked because of size. On the other hand. NT can make them a lot stronger but speed is VERY difficult to develop.

Littrell - Interesting E-mail to Former Lettermen
Matt Turney replied to UNTexas's topic in Mean Green Football
Good move Coach Littrell! Now I just have to get my name on the mailing list! GLORY TO THE GREEN & WHITE! -
I have read the majority of the BS on here. Most of which is crap. I have more invested in this football program than 90% of the couch potatoes on here. Sit behind your screen name, in your cubicle, read and post all you want. My opinion is just my opinion However my perspective is much more informed than most. Having played at UNT, been recruited at UNT, having been through some of the tough times and the glory days. There are people on this board I consider friends because of their unwavering support of UNT. I have coached high school for 12+ years and seen it from that side as well. So you just sit there and look at things through your little peephole at the program and criticize away.

Good times and good days. At least that's how it ended. It wasn't always bowl games and conference championships. Chemistry is a huge thing with a head coach. He maybe the greatest thing since Dickey. As a former coach I can tell you I have seen it time and time again head coaches who "HAVE IT", have it. They can walk into any program and turn it around. One thing that I heard a while back is that successful D-1 head coaches look and act like politicians, they sell their program and give off a vibe that everyone loves. I see that in Littrell more so that Meachum or Briles.

Reason I can't spell his name is because I have never heard of him. Much like most high school kids in Texas, who we will be recruiting.

It's a bit of a stretch but I am afraid this is a comfortable hire for Rick V. Fedora was at S Miss and thus has ties to Rick. I mean really how did Luttrell even get on the radar???? I keep hearing this is the presidents hire but any ties to current ad scare me. Luttrell is not a coordinator. He's not associate head coach. He's the "assistant head coach for offense" everyone on the UNC has a blown up title.

While we are waiting for the new coach to be named
Matt Turney replied to Charlie NT 73's topic in Mean Green Football
He's the kind of guy who would love a grass roots rebuilding job. I think it is DEFINATELY worth a call. I LOVE THIS COACH!!! -
"I don't know if it's the right decision to have Greer in there". Even the commentators know better. Good bye Canales.

I think he should top the list. He not only has experience but has it within the conference. He is a Texas boy with ties deep in the state. He will bring a phenomenal OC and a great staff. He also has big name recognition.

I once read that back in Bear Bryants hay day, one reason he was so successful was because he recruited all high school qbs. Knowing in that time that the best athlete on the team played Qb it made sense. He would then use these kids to play all the skill positions on his teams. Well ill that's happening again to a degree at Mississippi State and I think we should strongly consider going after one of their coaches. I'd say coordinator but I am not sure either would jump ship to come to UNT. Take a look at: Manny Diaz - likely too high profile Tony Hughes - establish & excellent recruiter Greg Knox - Sp Tm Coord Texas ties also (rosebud) All http://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/mississippi-state/2014/10/22/mississippi-state-recruiting-philosophy-pays/17703623/ All in all a long shot but their recruiting philosophy is one we should lean to

How do we feel about Lincoln Riley?
Matt Turney replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
in deed he is. Home town of yours truely and Lincoln. He graduated with my brother and is top notch. Guy has a photographic memory and was on my original list. I actually tried to pull any strings I had to get dodge to hire him when they were all let go at Tech. I'll promise you this, if we don't hire him, we will look back at him like we do harbaugh one day.
